Paddy Cosgrave on stage in Lisbon

Yesterday evening.

Lisbon, Portugal.

Via Independent.ie:

WEB Summit CEO Paddy Cosgrave invited Village Magazine editor Michael Smith along with Chay Bowes and John Tighe who were involved in publishing the story behind the magazine cover onto the stage and asked the crowd in the vast Altice Arena, which included senior Portuguese government officials and global technology chiefs, to give the men a round of applause.

The original article in the Village in 2020 triggered a criminal investigation into the now Tánaiste’s leaking of a document in April 2019 related to negotiations for a new General Practitioner contract.

Mr Cosgrave made the intervention as a precursor to the opening night’s main event, an interview with Facebook whistleblower Frances Haugen.

Has paddy an issue with Leo, sure he’s a lying elitist bellend, but seems odd to be calling it out at something like that.

He is fixated with Leo (or maybe just FG – had it in for Enda Kenny too).
Maybe he could direct some of that guerilla investigative journalism NPHET’s way, where we really need it applied.

Paddy is by all accounts a fairly unpleasant person to be around. But his one man crusade here is actually extremely worthwhile. The traditional media was never going to bother to investigate Leo, its only because of Paddy’s backing that any progress is being made on this.

Anyone willing to put their money, and reputation, on their line to fight against the establishment in Ireland probably deserves our respect for that. There aren’t many who would risk it.

Is this not a childish grudge against the Blueshirts for not supporting his gig?

Quite possibly. But it doesn’t really matter _why_ hes doing it does it? The important thing is hes bringing scrutiny and attention to bear on corruption by Irish politicians.

If corruption gets exposed it doesn’t matter why it got exposed, just that it gets exposed. Its still good for Ireland as a country.

I agree, let him at it. Both are repugnant individuals but it will be good to see where it goes. You can certainly forget about our traditional media digging any further, which is shameful really

Not much attention though by the media on the progress of the criminal investigation. As to what stage it’s at. Without naming names and who supplied what, when, how etc. No ‘sources’ etc. etc.

It takes Cosgrave to bring the hacks out from under their rocks, and all they are prepared to report on is what Cosgrave said.

We know one thing though – Varadkar’s refusal to sue Village Magazine was based on his legal advice and that advice was, obviously, that he wouldn’t win.

Thats a big point actually. If “Leo Varadkar – Law Breaker” as a headline didn’t get the Village sued, given our very strict defamation laws, then its quite telling…

Leo must have been told he’d lose any case. Which is extremely damning.
