“All Hands On Deck”

at

This morning.

Dublin Castle, Dublin 2.

Taoiseach Micheal Martin arrives for a cabinet meeting.

Via RTE News:

Micheál Martin said they need everyone on board with “all hands on deck ” in relation to the booster rollout, as the new Omicron variant is of “serious concern.”

Speaking on his way in Mr Martin said there is ongoing engagement to get as many GPs and more pharmacies involved in terms of administering vaccines and boosters over the coming days and weeks.

“That is critical in terms of the booster campaign,” he said.

He refused to speculate on possible restrictions and said there is ongoing engagement with public health officials.

He refused to speculate on possible restrictions and said NPHET haven’t decided yet. Interestingly, there is no talk of levels or colour codes this time around?

    Ah here.

Everyone over 50 nearly boosted? Get the 40+ boosted before Xmas and get a GP signed vulnerability based priority going.

Then kindly feck off. This just simply isn’t exploding as it did before so go find some private bed capacity and manage the numbers. Then fix the capacity for next winter.

Ah now Ronan, we can’t be letting all those booster shots go to waste. Everyone has to play their part.

Now lie back and think of Ireland – good lad ;-)

All hands in desk – is the ship sinking or something?

He refused to speculate on possible restrictions but – as is the norm nearly every week now – they’re only too happy to have the prospect mentioned, and the media only too happy to ask for them.

Will no one rid of these troublesome twitchy tinpot dictators?

Feck off Mehole. Show some leadership and start fixing problems at source in government and the HSE.

The country wont be so supportive of further restrictions regardless of whether they are anti-science or pro-science.

    1. Micko

      Ha ha!

      You can’t be “anti-science” Kim

You can be against bad science and up for good scientific practices and solutions.

And you can always query “the science” and not just follow it.

Calling someone anti-science is WAY to general and all encompassing.

It’s like saying someone doesn’t believe in why planes fly or how their computer works and that it’s all just running on magic.

      It’s just silly.

      But ‘Feck off Mehole.”

      That’s a message I can get behind ;)

If I can be a “sheep” then the rest can be “anti-science” :p

But yes to uniting against Mehole

      Agreed.

I’ve already outlined on a number of occasions my stance on vaccines and lockdowns as public health measures and why my own personal circumstances have coloured that opinion. But the public only has so much patience for having their freedoms and liberties eroded and curtailed over two years for the good of public health, especially when the government have essentially used covid as a huge distraction and deflection from its handling, or lack thereof, of the many issues (housing, health, climate policies) that have been neglected while they scrabble to deal with the pandemic. The fact of the matter is that there should have been huge energy being directed towards creating a better equipped, better run health system to take the pressure off the healthcare workers and the healthcare system, especially over the past two years where the gaping holes in our healthcare system have been exposed by the strain of the pandemic, and there has not been. They won’t have a leg to stand on as public opinion begins to shift, as it inevitably will.

‘The fact of the matter is that there should have been huge energy being directed towards creating a better equipped, better run health system……’

That’s been asked for two decades now. After all of the Dail sessions, after all of the queries, there has never been given a reason why the health service was decimated and then not brought up to standard to cope with the extra population.

The subject is ignored and ignored by the politicians. In the meantime there will be at least €6000,000,000 (Six thousand million euro) gifted to the National Broadband buckos (already way off target) and the white elephant that is the NCH, already behind target for completion.

Micheal Martin, and Leo Varadkar have been Health Ministers and have presided over the intentional degrading of our health services. They’re now leader and deputy leader of the country and still they ignore the problem.

Totally agree Giggs. It’s an absolute disgrace. Someone here made a point about how every winter we see fresh headlines about record numbers of people on trolleys and so on and nothing productive is actually done about it.

The past two years, which have exposed the worst and most strained parts of our health system, should have been used as the opportunity to jump-start an overhaul that most likely would take 10+ years to achieve (and the rest) but at least would tackle those parts of the system most in need of it. Especially while non essential procedures were limited or outright cancelled.

” as public opinion begins to shift, as it inevitably will”

With a lot of my friends, we all agree on one thing.

That the government has made a total balls of this whole situation.

Where I differ with a lot of my friends though, is that they think NPHET should be running the show. :-o

“Is there anything to be said for having a coup?”

        EMPEROR TONY!

      ‘Why is this being ignored?’

Because it doesn’t fit the narrative, of course. Save Granny, get vaccinated! That only works as a push-message if there is something desperately dangerous to save her from. You have to persuade people, too, that the vaccine stops transmission (which it doesn’t). That’s where the back-up narrative comes in.

The back-up narrative is even more compelling for many people, especially if they don’t have grannies – that they won’t be able to live normally if they don’t get jabbed. That works for many people, regardless of what variant is around or how mild it is.
