This morning.
Meanwhile…
The General Secretary of the Irish National Teachers’ Organisation (INTO) has estimated that around 15% of members will be absent when schools reopen tomorrow.
John Boyle said that around seven or eight thousand teachers will be absent because of Covid-19.
Speaking on RTÉ’s Morning Ireland, Mr Boyle said that the term ahead, up to mid-term, is going to be an extremely difficult one and there will be situations whereby children will have to have classes at home…
…He said that he was deeply concerned about finding enough teachers to keep the system running and added “there isn’t a hope” that there would be enough replacement teachers.
Thousands of teachers ‘will be absent’ due to Covid (RTE)

meanwhile I know parents who’s kids tested positive antigens that are just not saying a word and sending them back in because they can’t cope with work anymore when the kids are home and bills need to be paid
+1
That’s probably going to help hasten the point at which the schools have to close because all the staff are too sick to work or refusing to come in because all the kids are sick.
Don’t get me wrong, this is all happening because the government are pretending it isn’t, not because parents are being squeezed.
Teachers shouldn’t been molly coddled by the state. We’ve all had hardships to endure throughout this pandemic. Time to toughen up.
I’d kind of agree, maybe if the media hadn’t been scaring the poop out of everyone it’d be easy to argue that they get back to work
Yeah, the media should lie and tell everyone everything’s fine in the name of getting everybody back to work, regardless of risk.
Or they should just report what the government is putting out and not use clickbait sensationalist headlines and opinion pieces to get eyes on ads. You seem to be fond of intentionally misinterpreting what people say.
They should just report what the governments says? What? The government have been desperately trying to pretend covid can’t happen in schools, which has helped create the current situation, you want the media to ignore that on the grounds of not scaring people?
Surely they should be fine now that Omicron is extremely mild and is not resulting in many fatalities? Statistically speaking, Omicron is far less dangerous for most than the annual flu. Aren’t these teachers fully vaxxed on top of this too? If they are fearful of being in a classroom now, what conditions would have to prevail for them to not be frightened of returning to the classroom? When are such conditions likely to exist and how much long term damage to the children of the nations educational and career prospects are likely to be suffered before teachers feel comfortable in teaching to full classrooms?
‘Surely they should be fine now that Omicron is extremely mild and is not resulting in many fatalities’
Hospitalisations have rocketed, so ‘mild’ is relative.
‘Omicron is far less dangerous for most than the annual flu.’
A flu virus as virulent as omicron would clise schools, too.
The teachers have strong unions, and just as well, you’d happily let them all get sick and die.
“get sick and die”
If only there was a vaccine…
LOL, yeah but only works if 100% get jabbed…come on we know this.
Please don’t be stupid.
People in glass house’s Nigel
There is. It’s saving lots of lives, and keeping lots of people from getting seriously ill. But you don’t care about that.
Ah chill out Nigel, talk about a stick up your arse.
There were never lots of people being killed by Covid and now with Omicron there’s barely a trickle dying with it. The hysteria and irrational fearmongering need to stop.
Schrödinger’s Vaccine
Is both safe and effective, but also completely useless depending on whatever narrative is needed in any given situation for heads like Nigel to win their argument.
‘Is both safe and effective, but also completely useless’
No that’s the straw vaccine you use for your stupider comments.
‘talk about a stick up your arse.’
I’m sorry we can’t all get wound up about the really important stuff like how offensive and unfair it is to call people opposed to vaccines anti-vaxxers.
Kids and teachers alike fed up sitting in the freezing cold. Most want to shut the damn windows and take their chances.
