if anyone should produce a centenary stamp it’s the french seeing as how they allowed its publication while the powers that be here clutched their pearls and banned it.

Joyce’s Ulysses was banned by the British authorities based in London because of some foul language. A couple of English typists in Paris declined to continue typing out the manuscript because of the language.
