I have never met a person who would even consider getting an animal if they were 100% that they could keep it regardless of changes in circumstances.

Genuinely – who are these people who buy dogs then give them up months later??

ah it’s hard to understand alright
to me the dogs in my house are members of the family, not an item or some kind of comfort device
I do know of someone who’s idea of spending time with their dog is really only for those insta moments as opposed to any concept of relationship, irony indeed that in the self-interest of it all they themselves fail to get the unconditional love they probably actually crave…a feature of moddern life perhaps?

I know one, to my shame.

He was an idiot who thought a second child and a dog was a brilliant way to fix the problems in his marriage. And in a surprise twist, it did not help things at all.

Mindblowing numbers. I got a pup during lockdown. We wanted one for a while but didn’t have the time for a pup as both of us work. With lockdown we reckoned wed have the first year to get him trained etc. and then deal with the return to offices with doggy daycare, relatives (Mother in law loves minding him) and not being back full time. At no stage ever would we think about giving him up. When you get a dog they should be part of your family, end of. I love my guy like he’s part of me. How people can be so selfish is just so depressing.
