Remember folks, the wise professor holds a BSc in Biology from the University of Miami and a DPhil in politics from the University of Oxford. Neither of these qualifications allow someone to practice as a medical doctor.
But as a favoured advisor to Nicola Sturgeon she’s always been willing to diss England when Jimmy Krankie gives the order.
Meanwhile, data from the UK’s Office of National Statistics for January shows actual deaths around 93% lower than the SAGE forecast if Boris did not introduce more restrictions.
Sage, the UK’s equivalent of Nphet, forecast 2,890 deaths per day as a central estimate – the reality was under 200 deaths per day.
    Experts,eh ?

I don’t think the ending isolation step by BJ is a smokescreen, it’s just timing. Either that or the other countries doing similar are all trying to save his skin too

      1. SOQ

I agree- they are all trying to save their necks now. It has come into sharp focus with Trudeau’s arrogance in Canada but in the US. they are sweating in case the same thing happens there.

People have hand enough of the BS. It will be interesting to see how they climb down off their authoritarian perch in Australia.

The USA has averaged 2,500 covid deaths each day in February. This is their second highest wave (Feb 2021 was over 3,000)

These deaths are on top of the approx 8,850 expected deaths each month.

Excess death is estimated to be over 1 million in the last 2 years. Over one million more people died in the USA in the last two years than would have been expected: seven million died in that time when normally they would expect six million.

But yeah, you go ahead and say that it’s over in the US.

          1. SOQ

New York is dropping it’s muzzles and leper passes- same in New Jersey, Connecticut, Delaware, Oregon and California. Texas and Florida are way ahead of course.

Which begs the question- what has changed? The medical science certainly hasn’t- the political science maybe?

Hard not to see us following suit by the end of the month, which is great!

Thanks to everyone who sacrificed so much over the last two years

Well currently there has been a change of management who is advertising all of our jobs without so much as an email to the staff who were waiting for reopening.
          Thanks for the best wishes.

How many “Freedom Days” have England announced over the last 18 months only to revert a few weeks later after an upsurge in cases?

        1. paul

I stand corrected, that was a big one. Those red uniforms were great, can’t be having that simplicity these days unfortunately.

          1. Micko

“ Those red uniforms were great,”

What? Clearly I was referring to Star Trek the original series which launched in 1966.

“All those poor dead red uniformed men -you monster Paul”

          2. paul

someone had to feed the rock monster/lava monster/giant spider/etc :)

finished reading ‘Redshirts’ by John Scalzi the other day. Good read on that topic if you like light sci-fi.

    1. Zaccone

England’s hospitality and nightlife fully opened in mid-July, that was their ‘freedom day’. It never once “reverted” afterwards. Its been open since.

Unlike Ireland with our pitiful 3 week opening, and subsequent closure, in October…

      1. Doxy Chainsaw

If that was their “Freedom day”, is this freedom day the sequel?

        Freedom Day 2: Freedom Boogaloo

          1. Doxy Chainsaw

I’ve been over twice and experienced the “freedom”. NHS confirmed Lateral flow test AND a covid pass required for entry to events, masks required in airports, hotels, public transport, (tube, bus, taxi, tram), shops. No different to here, really.

          2. Zaccone

Yeah, nothing much different to here _now_, since we finally opened two weeks ago.

The 6 months before that that we spent completely unnecessarily locked down while they were open were rather different.

          3. SOQ

@Zaccone- that is what people I know living in England have been saying- absolutely no change. A few places did try to introduce the leper pass but when the tills stopped ringing, they soon reconsidered.

Then again, they had their ‘Ottawa’ moment way back- and in fairness to Boris, he did respond at the time. Probably more to save his own neck mind, as his backbenchers were feeling the heat.

        1. andrew

In fairness, and while I agree this is looking a bit silly at this stage, I think this is more about Boris Johnson and the Tories trying their best to distract everyone from their incompetence and utter stupidity around all manner of issues at the moment

Aside from all that, it is great that we have finally emerged from what has been a really difficult time for everyone – and Ireland too. Ireland played an absolute blinder in how it handled the pandemic from start to finish. I’ll duck down now.

      1. andrew

“What will they do now that no one is interested in them anymore?”

Says the fellow who reckoned masks and social distancing etcetera was the thin edge in a concerted attempt by a hidden elite to introduce coercive control of our minds. But now that this has been shown to be the rubbish everyone told him it was, he points and laughs at others who he reckons were wrong.

Generally acknowledged on this platform that you’re not the brightest fellow around but even by your standards, this must be all be a bit humiliating. With all due respect etcetera.

        1. Micko

“ in a concerted attempt by a hidden elite to introduce coercive control”

emm… how’s things going in Austria then? Or Canada, or the US, or Australia, or New Zealand?

          Ain’t over yet pal…

          1. andrew

It is not over everywhere because different places are at different stages of the process. We are seeing the removal of restrictions and other measures that you and your sort said would never be removed, indeed would be increased in time, in lots of places. The others will follow and soon. When this happens, will you then admit you were laughably wrong?

          2. Micko

            Ah come on now Andy

            Laughably wrong about what?

That billions have been taken from ordinary working people and transferred to the richest elite? Get the Money, power (sugar etc)

That peoples mental and physical health has been destroyed from lockdowns and moronic policy.

That delays in medical screening and referrals will eventually kill WAY more than this pandemic ever will?

That people followed rules, missing the deaths of loved ones, while the elite laughed in their faces and went around doing what they wanted?

And yep, control of the population allowed ALL that to occur. Through Masks, fear media, propaganda , medicelebs all saying – “look over here (while we go to the bank. “)

Splitting society and getting us to hate each other based on medical status and then taking that choice away (Austria, US etc)

I’ve actually been pretty effin consistent over this mess and never went down the conspiracy route you are accusing me of.

          1. Chris

Just like time has told you’ve been wrong about every element of the ‘pandemic’ so far?

Evidence? I took the time to read policy. You should try it, being informed is a better look than being a strutting idiot.

          2. andrew

What element of the pandemic have I been wrong about? Genuinely no clue what you’re referring to as I haven’t commented much. For what it’s worth, the pandemic has played out pretty much exactly as I expected it to – including the ebbs and flows that were also expected.

And what ‘policy’ have you read? I’ll regret this question I know,

          3. Micko

“ the pandemic has played out pretty much exactly as I expected it to ”

Oh yeah? What about the “we have to inject children coz the virus might mutate into a more deadly form that might kill them” bit you were banging on about.

Derp… man that was some flex that day you pulled. ;p

          4. andrew

Interesting you mention that. There is research underway as to whether the Omicron variant is affecting children more than previous variants. Anecdotally it does seem the case. I think I recall (but I may be mixing this up) you saying you have children? Have you heard of more kids having Covid since Omicron hit? Lots of parents I know say this is the case. Fortunately it seems to be a fairly benign illness.

          5. Micko

So not the end / is the end?

“ the pandemic has played out pretty much exactly as I expected it to ”

Your prophetic powers are bordering on Mystic Meg levels of accuracy. ;p

  4. RuilleBuille

Charles Windsor just announced he has COVID. Seems the Windsor clan don’t agree with the blond sleaze bag.

  5. Micko

Interesting to see Prof Devi Sridhar giving her opinion on the real reason BJ is lifting restrictions.

But, I note that she is qualified in Public Health and NOT qualified to talk about England’s current political system.

“Where did you get your political degree from then love?”

    Heh…

    1. andrew

“Where did you get your political degree from then love?”

She got her political degrees (an MPhil and a DPhil) from Oxford.

      “Heh” indeed.

But hey with all due respects, don’t let ignorance of the facts stop you from commenting!

      1. Micko

Eh… not according to her Wiki page. But was more of a whimsical musing on my part anyway – odd yountooo it so seriously.

But, if I am wrong. I will graciously admit it and will have learned something new.

What I won’t ever do, is go on a public forum and try to (poorly) put someone else down because I am insecure about my own intelligence – like your good self.

And I mean that respectfully of course Andrew.

        Ho ho…

        1. andrew

“What I won’t ever do, is go on a public forum and try to (poorly) put someone else down”

You really are either an awful lying hypocrite or entirely deluded. You rudely and aggressively attack people all the time on here. Your hounding of Doxxy Chainsaw especially is a disgrace,
