Clamping at St Stephen’s Green in Dublin in 2020
This afternoon.
Via RTÉ News:
Clamping fines in Dublin city are to increase from €80 to €125 next week.
The 56% rise comes into effect on 1 March following a decision by Minister for Transport Eamon Ryan.
Green Party Councillor for Dublin’s North Inner City, Janet Horner, said the increase was needed to discourage car use in the city centre.
The Automobile Association said the rise was coming at a bad time for motorists who are already experiencing a “perfect storm” when it comes to rising costs of running a car.
Name that jammer, anyone?

i do hope cllr horner has a son called jack.
Oh oh is that where I left it !!
What next from the Greens, 20 snipers dotted about the city taking occasional pot-shots at unsuspecting motorists, ”to discourage car use in the city”? They need to sort out the absolute state of some of the public transport first, buses in particular are a mess in general.
Fitzwilliam Square not St Stephen’s Green
How does increasing the clamping release fee reduce car use in the city centre? Doesn’t make much sense to me as I’d be using a car park or if parking on street I’d make sure to pay enough to cover my stay.
+1
I’d very rarely park on the street anyway. And with the parking app it’s pee easy.
Makes no sens…. ah wait… Eamon Ryan said it.
Makes perfect sense now.
There’s tonnes of illegal parking in the city. The problem isn’t the cost of the fine though its the lack of enforcement.
Now do it in a Batman voice – especially the “lack of enforcement” bit
That’s a bit special alright, a Ferrari F12, more a drivers Ferrari than some other models. It has a 6.3 litre V12, no turbos, 700 horsepower, 200+mph, no reg plate but they were last made around 2016/7 so at least 5 years old, price new around €300k mark. Looks like the clamping technicians put some paper in to protect the wheels from the clamp, that’s nice isn’t it! Those odd scoop things on the bonnet are aftermarket I think, maybe something to do with our rainy weather.
If they were serious about reducing car usage, they’d implement a congestion charge.
Clamping is loss making, the fees should at least cover the cost of the service so the taxpayer isn’t funding it.
