He Taketh And Giveth

at

Canadian prime Minister Justin Trudeau

This morning.

Via CTV:

The Canadian federal government has lifted the Emergencies Act but questions remain about what might be the long-term effects of invoking such extraordinary measures to quell protests.

The financial measures carried out under the act, which included directing banks to freeze some protesters’ accounts, have been a particular target for criticism and one watcher warns the damage done will linger long after the initial protests are finished.

Financial intelligence expert Kim Manchester says that banks will likely keep tracking those individuals flagged by the RCMP and their names could end up on private-sector third-party databases that banks rely on to mitigate anti-money laundering and terrorist financing.

Banks and other financial institutions were also directed to look into whether any clients seemed to be supporting the protests, and those monitoring actions could well continue, he said.

Meanwhile…

On a larger scale, Manchester says that the actions set a dangerous precedent of how government decides to go after protests, and leaves open the door to using the same tactics in the future.

He says allies will also be watching how the federal government used Fintrac and compare the actions against the protesters to the relatively few resources directed to financial crime generally.

There are lasting consequences to this. You don’t just pull out a fountain pain and sign a piece of paper and hope that it all goes away. It doesn’t work like that,” said Manchester.

More incisive commentary from our own Pat Mustard.

Any other turds you want shine up and pass off as pearls?

      1. Me so Harney

No Point Millie in, blunt as per usual..

        How’s your confirmation bias going?

Is it being invaded by Russia??

        1. The Millie Obnoxious™

About as well as your own confirmation bias, I suppose.

Run along now and throw another ineffective lololol at someone.

    1. Me so Harney

So the attempted quell of a peaceful protest by the swivel eyed mandate hugging loons has failed resulting in even lower approval ratings for fidelito castro

      1. Duncan Wheeler

Exactly, Trudeau is as bad a sick joke than some of our own, ie: Harney, Noonan & his protégé Pascal, Varadkar, the list is endless. All self serving citizen hating,( word of the day,) turds without a shred of moral compass or ethics based governance.

    2. K.Cavan

That only happened in your head, Ruille. Have you a tense, nervous headache, after all that crushing & eye-swiveling? Clearly the tunnel vision hasn’t cleared up, either.
Maybe a spot of marching around in your jackboots might clear it up? Give it a try anyway.

      1. TheWhiteWolf

        I know, right! Clearly.

Because with all that’s going on in Europe, the big story on Broadsheet is still is that monster Trudeau.

        1. K.Cavan

That’s the problem, Pale Dog, there’s nothing going on in Europe to be worrying about. The “war in Ukraine” is over, Russia won & took back a whole bunch of its grateful citizenry. Even though the US spent $5 billion+ on its coup in Ukraine, Putin walks away with a 3-0 victory & the US gets Afghanistaned, again.

    1. K.Cavan

Sure, Pale Dog, that’s the result you’d get if you asked their respective citizenries. Have Putin’s approval ratings ever been at 16%? I doubt it. Trudeau would’ve drone-bombed the truckers, if he didn’t think it might damage his reputation, whatever’s left of it, anyway.

Seriously reduced confidence in canadian banks following the account freezes and asset seizures.

A boost to cryptocurrencies though – this is exactly what theyre there for

    1. Aunt Feb

I am about to lose my second home due to crypto crashing? What coins are you involved in Trustin and how are the Truckers spending them? Thanks.

  2. SailorGerry

It would seem the emergency powers that were created in Canada to stifle dissent and any legitimate opposition to the government narrative are frightening in their reach and capacity.

Most of the oddball websites I used to support have all had Patreon and Paypal support options removed, which is blatant censorship of anything that counters the governments flailing narratives.

It would not be a huge leap to see the government seize my small account for “wrong speak” or for support of sites that promote “vaccine hesitancy”, or “misinformation”.

This in itself has a chilling effect on some folks and might reduce the amount of places where the truth can be found online and where the lies of the government are exposed.

On a positive note it smacks of desperation, and clearly demonstrates that truth does not need defending whilst a lie constantly requires it.

      1. Aunt Feb

He is brilliant, a true patriot! I keep hearing from the legacy media that over 90% of Canadians do not support the truckers and believe in the pandemic. Obviously state propagated lies, what do you think the real number is?

        1. SOQ

it really is impossible to know. I suspect that both the pro Trudeau and the pro truckers groups are actually the minorities, and that the majority are questioning Trudeau’s competence because of his high handed handling of the situation, rather than full on trucker support?

  3. Clampers Outside

Me So Harney is right, in fairness.

It is a joke that such fascist actions have been executed by a government that claims to be “liberal” …lol for sure.

    Liberal in name only.

    1. Aunt Feb

you are only aligning with Harney due to their outward hatred towards those in the trans community, it is not nice and it is disingenuous of you. Harney is a nasty commentator.

      1. Clampers Outside

I’m not really aware of what Harney normally posts on as I’m not familiar with them.

I’m merely commenting on what they said above.
Your assumptions are just that, ass…

    2. scottser

doubling down on one side or the other’s aggression, hypocrisy and greed at the expense of civilian life and displacement is crass clamps. you should know better.

      1. SOQ

Please give some example’s of the trucker’s aggression, hypocrisy and greed?

The most aggressive thing they done was to hug the police. As for greed- I’ve never seen such a generous community get together, which costs a lot of money to be part of.

      2. Clampers Outside

Where did they do any of that? I don’t believe they did… happy to be corrected if I’m wrong, but I don’t believe I am.

  4. K.Cavan

It’s a salutary reminder of why Central Bank Digital Currencies are a Very Bad Idea. Our currencies are already mostly digital, CBDCs are not currencies at all, merely control mechanisms, whereby anyone can have their money legally stolen by government agencies, without recourse to any legal avenues of appeal, for any reason or no reason at all & that’s just the tip of the iceberg of the control the State can exercise over your private property, if CBDCs are enforced.
Or, rather, when Digital Currencies are enforced.

    1. Chris

The Maajid Nawaz / Joe Rogan podcast was a good one. He broke it down fairly well, WEF infiltration of governments, the CBDC paradigm etc. It’s great to get that kind of intel out to millions of people.
