Apparently one of Putin’s daughters lives in The Hague, which will at least be handy for visiting him at the International Criminal Court when he is tried for war crimes.

    1. Steph Pinker

I mentioned that some of his children live in the Netherlands on an earlier thread; let’s wait and see, shall we?

Nuance. Nuance. And reality. Not black and white.

Initially the US denied any Bio Labs until some where bombed which wasn’t a great look so now, there is apparently heavy online censoring going on- which is all the more reason to dig a little deeper.

George Webb has done extensive research and reporting on the subject and appears to be inferring that the labs are the real reason why Russia is doing what it is doing.

Veterans Today is a pro-Kremlin, antisemitic conspiracy theory and fake news website. It describes itself as a “military veterans and foreign affairs journal”, but the Southern Poverty Law Center (SPLC) had said “the anti-Israel bent on VT can slide pretty quickly into overt anti-Semitism.”

      1. SOQ

Southern Poverty Law Center is a hard left joke- as any internet search will tell you.

Calling someone else a useful idiot when your only contribution to this site is bitchy snipes- says it all.

The biggest joke on here is you with your yank MAGA obsession,it’s pathetic, the garbage your allowed post on US,which Nick then boosts has ruined the sheet for me.It in no way reflects the mood or energy or “news” except in MAGA world, who even watches Fox except bunch old angry ornery white trash, yet it’s featured constantly on here, recently as “ mainstream’

If the ‘sheets recent coverage on US is a gauge, then the site has been hijacked by a bunch of Irish MAGA morons.

“The SPLC is the premier U.S. non-profit organization monitoring the activities of domestic hate groups and other extremists – including the Ku Klux Klan, the neo-Nazi movement, neo-Confederates, racist skinheads, antigovernment militias, Christian Identity adherents and others.“

Thanks for the George Webb link SOQ I’ll have a look tomorrow.

Although a this point I think it’s fair to say that, considering Ukraine’s proximity to Moscow, the perceived threat from conventional weaponry may have been enough to spark the military response from the Russians.

      From November 30th 2021:
      https://www.ft.com/content/22824ff3-6df7-4799-9891-5f7fde8ccc9a

‘ Putin cautions Nato against crossing ‘red lines’ in Ukraine.

Putin: “If some kind of strike systems appear on the territory of Ukraine, the flight time to Moscow will be seven to 10 minutes, and five minutes in the case of a hypersonic weapon being deployed,” ‘

      1. f_lawless

This is a really interesting perspective too: an American man who lives in Poland, was visiting family in Ukraine, but got stranded in a hotel in Kiev when the Russian invasion happened, talks about the current situation as he walks downtown on the the streets of Kiev a couple of days ago

He says that after the Zelensky government took the extremely reckless step of distributing military weapons to the Ukrainian citizenry, the current danger in Kiev isn’t coming from the Russians who are still a number of km away. It’s from the criminal gangs who are now running riot in the city with those weapons.

You’d have to wonder what the goal of giving ordinary people guns is. Is it to actually defend the country or to be used as PR for when they get shot dead.

        2. Verbatim

I wouldn’t be surprised if half the shootings have to do with gang warfare and power grabs, and it’s not all about Russia invading.
Such is the nature of a war zone, it invites the worst of the worst to come out and play.

          1. SOQ

And now they are actually going to release prisoners and give them guns- what could possibly go wrong?

      2. SOQ

@F_lawless. Yes the proximity to Moscow- Ukraine is of geographical importance to Russia.

But of recent times it was discovered that Ukraine has very large untapped gas reserves, which would undermine the Russian energy power hold over Europe. This would also explain why Russia is taking such care not to flatten destroy the infrastructure.

      3. Cian

There are other NATO countries almost as close.

It is ~450km from (closest point in) Ukraine to Moscow.
It is ~580km from Latvia to Moscow.

        1. SOQ

Belarus and Ukraine are the buffer between Moscow and NATO- they are of strategic importance.

        2. f_lawless

@Cian.Yes, worth bearing in mind that NATO’s military encroachment around Russia’s borders of course hasn’t been limited to operations in Ukraine. Ukraine is one element of a wider threat perceived by the Kremlin. But the suggestion is that they really did see NATO’s recent activities in Ukraine as a the crossing of a “red line”, a step too far.

A confusion of numbers offered by The Irish Daily Mail and The Irish Examiner 6,000/20,000? We’ve plenty of space where bombings aren’t occurring every day.

        Sure is.

Life is such a drag at the moment for many people.
And as good fortune has always graced me with a smile I feel it only right to pass a little on.
Some folk do get a tad upset though.
            I can’t think for a moment why.

Maybe time for a lot more Irish voters to stop viewing EU MEP elections as unimportant or a bit of mild amusement and stopped electing walking talking proto Putler’s to the EP

  7. Shayna

Irish voters? MI5 have been around in the North, always . MI6 in TheSouth- same! GCHQ current! Illegal phone tapping.

    1. TenPin Terry

Huzzah for GCHQ, the eyes and ears of intelligence services across Europe, for protecting the West including Ireland from terrorists and malcontents.
The sterling work of the Cheltenham doughnut crew is an essential part of the Five Eyes intelligence cooperation between Australia, Canada, New Zealand, the United Kingdom, and the United States.
It also has links with France, Germany and Japan to introduce an information-sharing framework to counter threats arising from foreign activities of China and Russia.
Basically it keeps everyone much safer in their beds at night.
Irish intelligence, despite being an oxymoron, regularly exchanges cross-border information on terrorist activity and naturally GCHQ is involved in this.
Generally and apart from the occasional snafu like the 7/7 bombings it has been an outstanding success although because of the inevitable secrecy around it we’ll never know the true story.

“Occasional snafu”, good lord but that’s funny, the amount of successful terrorist escapades that occur in not-so-great shi*ain suggest its ‘intelligence’ services are about as competent as their police farce.

Russia has brought former Ukrainian President Yanukovych to Minsk.

Putin is preparing to proclaim him the new President of Ukraine. I’m sure that will go down like a bag of cold sick with your average Ukrainian. Jaysus that Ruskie Sputnik V clearly has had some serious side effects and fried whatever miniscule amount of cognitive judgement Putler had left. Read the room loser.

Anyway, for a break from Ukraine why don’t we return to Brexit again and ponder the many saps on here who claimed a shortage of EU workers would hit poor old Blighty.
Not so apparently according to the Office for Nationaol Statistics.

” The Brexit shortfall of EU workers has already been filled by staff from the rest of the world, official figures show.
Data from the Office for National Statistics (ONS) reveal that the rise in jobs filled by people from non-EU countries more than compensated for the drop in those occupied by EU workers.
While the number of payroll jobs held by EU nationals fell by six per cent (171,000), the number filled by non-EU nationals rose by nine per cent (186,300) in the two years to 2021, according to the ONS.
The biggest falls in EU-held jobs were in accommodation, such as hotels, and food services, where there was a 25 per cent drop (98,400).
Care homes saw the biggest increase in both UK workers and staff from the rest of the world as the sector sought to plug the gaps left by the departure of EU workers. There was a five per cent increase in UK workers (178,400) and a 19 per cent rise in non-EU nationals (178,400) in the two years to June 2021, said the ONS. ”

    Marvellous™

    1. stephen moran

That wasn’t exactly the purpose of Brexit for your average Daily Excrement reader though was it i.e. replacing eastern European workers whom they let in post enlargement (like Sweden and Ireland as they waived their right to delay such a move for 7 years to keep labour inflation down) with lads and lassies from the rest of the world. The law of unintended consequences.

  15. TenPin Terry

Quietly and without much fanfare Labour’s poll lead over the Consevatives has pretty much halved since mid-January – which was when the Irish Times boldy announced that Boris’s political future was being measured in days rather than weeks.
Once again the jackass journalists who talk to each other rather than real people have underestimated the political cunning and durability of the Borismeister.
A decent campaign against Putin and the greased piglet will be running free again.
I did warn you that social media is not real life.

Sadly the self indulgent wing of the Islington set do have a habit of going all donkey coated Michael Foot when the shooting starts.
Jeremy Corbyn & John McDonnell are understood to be speaking at a “Stop the War” demonstration tonight which will heavily criticize NATO & British “provocation”.
Given the performance of Yves Saint Instagram Liz Trussia, the braindead geography mastermind Rabb and the poison dwarf Patel that poll is unbelievable – de Pfeffel will be free to get his freelance trouser snake out again with impunity soon at this rate
