It’s your choice.
Yesterday evening.
Pearse Street, Dublin 2
Taoiseach Micheál Martin and Minister for Further and Higher Education, Research, Innovation and Science Simon Harris greeted by Professor Linda Doyle, Provost of Trinity College Dublin, as they arrive in the Trinity Biomedical Sciences Institute to announce the successful cross-border partnership projects awarded funding under the North South Research Programme.

If you swap picture 1 & 3 it shows Harris taking a mask out of his pocket and putting it on.
Cian, that was the order they should have been in. Thank you!
LOL – you couldn’t make it up!
If you swap picture 1 & 3 it shows Harris taking his mask off and putting it in his pocket
Michilin’s normal mask must be in the wash
the gimp mask?
yeah, the stains on that thing are hard to remove, in fairness.
some dirt ye cannae wash off
Look up ‘triggered’ on dictionary.com and it’s just that video in the tweet playing on repeat, lad’s raging!
I’m shocked at people still wearing masks. 50% in liffey valley. Lots of young people wearing. The damage goes deep. Fear and greed I now get how religions work and the role zealots play. We are not a primary species only donkeys. That buda lad was on to something with his no god.
…..and 100% wearing clothes and shoes….omg.. where will it all end?
Do you don the latex gloves too, cobweb & maybe slip on a condom, too, just in case you get too close on the Dort, you know?
You do sound like that sort. You know it’s possible to inflate the condom & put it on your head? You’ll be guaranteed not to inhale much air but you’ll definitely avoid all those nasty germs. It’s the next best thing to staying at home & leaving the Normal People to enjoy life.
How well I remember all the ‘end all pandemic measures but look after the vulnerable (filenotfound)’ demands, and now we’ve ended the measures the merest hint that someone who might be vulnerable or someone who is thinking about the vulnerable are aware that covid is still circulating is an outrage, Joe.
I bet you do, Nigel, with great fondness, like an elderly Covid Nazi looking back, misty-eyed on the “good old days” of The Sars Reich.
You must feel this lack of protection very deeply, witnessing this utterly reckless behaviour. You’re like a hunted animal, unprotected, alone, forced to do all your shopping & other outside activities at breakneck speed, to avoid exposure to the fresh air, laden as it is with germs, other people’s farts, motes of dust & worse.
It’s enough to make you sick with worry.
On the other hand & in the real world, the grown-ups can now let their Immune Systems recover from the damage they’ve endured while following the Fake Science you’re so fond of
Behaving like a germophobe hasn’t been banned, though Nigel, you can still social distance, wear 3 masks & live in Fear of The Droplet, once you don’t expect sane people to join you in your ignorant lunacy.
Have you considered going back into voluntary lockdown yourself, at all, becoming a hermit perhaps? Without other people around, there’ll be far less chance of “catching something”. Outer Space might be good, no germs out there in the void & you know what they say, in space no one can hear you scream.
No internet, either, so it’s another thing you could do to benefit the rest of us. Thanks
If you wore a mask maybe you’d spray less spittle and foam all over the place?
Well, maybe it would reduce the effects of laughing like a drain, Nigel but then again, with the mask on, people might think I’m a raving madman & the spittle & foam (foam, really?) does deter the germophobe nutjobs, you’re familiar with the type, of course, from bothering me with their brain-dead gibberish.
You might consider a cork in your ass, I know, I know, how will people hear you with your major orifice of communication thus blocked off but reducing the amount of merde exiting your good self will make for a healthier environment, for all, plus you’ll protect yourself from any germs that attempt to penetrate you anally.
Try it, anyway & let us know how it goes. Good lad.
A bit of spittle & foam will expedite insertion but you’ll have to produce your own.
You’re right you’d probably drown.
Banjaxed.Belturbet
I’m struggling to understand why some are getting worked up by those who choose to wear a mask for whatever reason.
If you’re a wackier sort, then you might think they’re harming themselves somehow and sure then that’s their business.
Not wearing one myself.
I sympathize with your struggle, ANO, I had a similar problem when I came up against Calculus, in first year. However, I persisted & managed to scrape a pass & if you really, really put in the study, you might eventually battle your way back to normality, where masks are a psychological crutch for physically healthy but mentally ill people, damaged, like yourself, by the insanities inflicted on them, simply because they were too dumb to think for themselves & thought RTE, Newstalk & the comics we have, instead of newspapers, actually knew “The Science”.
Get to work now, sanity beckons, yes ANO, even you aren’t the lost cause you appear to be, there’s a sane, mature adult lurking inside that sad, deformed psyche of yours.
Then again, maybe you were always a bit of a weirdo, we don’t know, do we?
I think that if you dialled your aggression back a notch or two that we could probably have a civilised conversation, till then though I hope you’ll forgive me for not engaging with your abusive post.
Ah, Hurty Feelings? I’ll apologize, ANO but you might like to dial down your sensitivity, there are Big Boys & Big Girls out in the world & they can’t always be considering the feelings of the feeble-minded, especially those who engage in the sort of cheerleading for Health Fascism & divisive, fake science nonsense, that you’re fond of.
Tell ya what, you wouldn’t want to be around on the rare occasions when I actually get abusive, you’d probably burst out crying.
I love you, man.
Well exactly, the real world is a brutally harsh place but within the confines of Broadsheet’s virtual walls we can maybe disagree while not getting overly rowdy about it.
I love you too dude, stay safe out there.
Tbe Buddha said ” Gripped by fear, men go to the sacred mountains and sacred groves, sacred trees and shrines” I am not afraid of death, I need no god to comfort me in my fear. If people feel they need to wear a mask or get down on their knees at mass I mostly feel sad for them or even better think each to their own as long as I can smile at folks again and campaign for a separation of church and state ;).
* some people are vulnerable and feel the mask offers protection…it’s up to them
I think you can relax your kacks on the old Separation of Church & State stuff, Janet, if you reckon the church has undue influence over the State, you must be on the magic mushrooms or living in some weird parallel universe.
How do you stand on the Suez Question? Any opinions on the King’s divorce from that Seymour woman?
To think that the Vulcan Science Academy have declared that time travel is impossible, while you zip back & forth to 1930’s Ireland, with nary a care in the world.
Off with you now & join in the great struggle of The Suffragettes.
well I’ll be convinced when schools are secular and the maternity hospital has nothing and I .ran nothing to do with the nuns :)
I couldn’t give a fupp about the foreign Queen.
Now, Janet, when you say schools should be “secular”, do you really mean they should be teaching kids that there are 152, no, 153 genders, that men can become women by declaring it so, that maths, science & being on time are racist & that scientists who study the atmosphere can be sure of what’s going to happen in 50 years, despite not being able to tell us if it’ll rain on Friday?
I kind of reckon you do, am I right?
Our schools will probably never be truly “secular”, until they eliminate diversity in toilets, though. That seems to be the single biggest issue facing our schoolchildren, as the New Religion, which isn’t a Religion at all, replaces the Old Religion, which definitely was.
The New Religion is based on Science, which is on TV, while the old one was in books, which meant it was exclusionary to the illiterate. Straight away, that’s an improvement, right? You can get really stupid people & those with learning difficulties on board.
You know what, the New Secular Religion seems a bit lame-brained & full of utter drivel, if you’re not fanatical about its moronic dogma, don’t you think?
Don’t you think?
no, I don’t conflate the two.
By Secular I mean no mention of religions or sky faeries , I mean sticking to Maths, Languages and other appropriate concrete subjects.
I don’t know why you’d drag ” woke ” culture into it
Does anyone know where I can find evidence that masks don’t reduce the spread of covid? I know they don’t stop it entirely, but most of the google results seem to indicate that they do reduce spread…
There’s a good collection of the studies and data here
https://swprs.org/face-masks-evidence/
Thanks. Although some of them seem to refer to cloth masks and say the high quality ones do reduce transmission: “Nevertheless, high-efficiency masks, such as the KN95, still offer substantially higher apparent filtration efficiencies (60% and 46% for R95 and KN95 masks, respectively) than the more commonly used cloth (10%) and surgical masks (12%)”
So I’m just not sure what DeSantis’s worry is…
It will take a lot longer than a few minutes to read it all properly and get a better understanding.
Thing is, Col & it’s kind of sad that I have to point this out to you, those masks you covet were designed to be worn when you’re using a sander, an angle-grinder, a circular saw or a jigsaw, a sledgehammer, maybe even just when sanding manually, you know, when small particles of dust are present in the atmosphere, not for hours on end as you walk about in the fresh air that humans have been breathing for millenia. Yes, even though all those humans ended up dead.
Even when used for the purposes intended, I can tell you from experience, those masks barely work & given that even the finest dust, from grade 400 wet/dry glass paper, is thousands of times larger in diameter than the largest virion, they simply cannot prevent exposure to air-borne pathogens, not even slightly, sorry!
For reference, some virions are smaller than many larger, complex molecules. Viruses are molecular in their dimensions, you can’t catch them in something made from a thread that’s thousands of molecules wide, no siree.
Have you got a link to some real studies?
Not ones that are used by Jim Corr…..
LOL
Ah, now, Ian, you know & I know that you’d be long dead, buried under mountains of studies that Jim Corr, lol, hasn’t even heard about, before you become an apostate to the New Covid Dogma that watching too much Claire Byrne has etched into your childlike mind.
I would consider advising you to ponder the possibility of terminating yourself under controlled conditions, lest you catch a cold but, do you know what, I tried that once on Twitter, with a similarity-afflicted victim, just like yourself & the buggers banned me for “suicidal ideation”, then sent me the phone number of The Samaritans.
It’s on the internet, Col but unfortunately, not on Google. You do know there are other, less neo-fascist, search engines, right?
Do you remember when Ted tried to explain to Dougal how big things, in the distance, appear the same size as small things, nearby?
Just imagine you’re Dougal.
Now, virions are small & the holes in the weave of mask fabric are huge. Now, stick with me, stick with me, these holes are enormous, gigantic but only relative to the size of virions, which are so small they can infect bacteria, which are massive in comparison, even though they all seem teensy & small to you, so the virions just sail through the fabric, like mosquitoes flying through a chicken-wire fence, getting the picture, now? Virions are so small, get this, that they cannot be seen under any microscope humaity will ever invent, they’re entirely invisible but still, real, like the respect our politicians have for us, their electorate.
Ah, it’s no good, it’s too complex.
Just leave your mask on, Col, it acts as a signal to normal people to avoid having to talk to you.
If people want to continue wearing masks, then let them have at it. If they don’t, then don’t wear them.
I don’t see why there’s so much hand-wringing about it. If someone chooses to wear a mask, does it affect you? No.
exactly and don’t go asking staff how they feel about it either, I’m sure they have thought long and hard about their decision to unmask or not and it might be stressing them out, they don’t need a biddy sticking the beak in.
Damn, I was thinking of doing just that, Janet Dreams. I get very hot & bothered about peoples’ mask-wearing choices, I’m sure you & the Covidian Moron Brigade will be familiar with the sensation, right?
I doubt that anyone who actually wears a mask, at this stage, has done much in the way of long or hard thinking or any thinking at all, to be honest, what with the Pandemic narrative in shreds, the Fake Science exposed & the Fake Vaccines creating the biggest health disaster of modern times, the thing the bloody Virus was supposed to do, you know?
K Cavan, I’m not vaccinated, neither was I in favor of the masks, believing them to be filthy.
I am in favor of kindness to people who are frightened.
+1 Janet
Surely this is always the best option – more kindness.
Especially when people have had the bejesus terrified out of them for two years.
Probably best to put the past two years behind us and think of it, as a real weird time where everyone said and did really odd things.
And forgive each other for the madness ;)
agree
+1
Apart from that lad in the tweet melting down I don’t think it’s really an issue off-line mind.
+1 to all of ye.
Indeed there’s quite a lot of stuff that’s an issue online that doesn’t exist in the real world.
Let us give thanks and praise!
No, ANO, you’ll find the unmasked won’t be full of the fanatic zeal of the masked. Unlike them, we really don’t get uptight at people, masked or unmasked.
Normal breathing with a mask on will bring particles of fabric into your lungs, where they’ll remain for life. The particles are inert, so won’t cause an immune response but they are extreme irritants, causing scar tissue to build up in the lungs, inhibiting oxygen intake in the same way as tar from cigarette smoking.
Still, it is, as they say, your funeral.
‘Unlike them, we really don’t get uptight at people, masked or unmasked.’
Have you read any of your own comments?
Ah each to their own.
They make as much sense to me as a Burqa, and we let people wear them in Ireland- so fill yer boots. ;P
As long as I don’t have to wear one…
We let people in Ireland wear them …
The mask slips
As in, they are banned in a lot of European countries.
Although I reckon I could rock a Burqa…
Are they now Micko?
How many?
Plenty
But sure you can look it up yourself.
https://en.m.wikipedia.org/wiki/Burqa
I thought the exact same thing when I saw M’s ‘let them’ comment earlier too. A real tell.
A tell of what?
Yet when anyone decided not to wear a mask, it did effect everyone else on the planet, gas, isn’t it? Luckily, we won’t have women being strangled in public by Aussie pigs or being verbally abused by Karens, for wearing masks. Normal people will obviously think “oh-oh, retard” but that’ll just encourage them to actively avoid having anything at all to do with mask-wearing goons.
It’s just a contrast in styles you’ll notice between sane & insane people, many of whom were perfectly sane, only two short years ago.
Not surprised about DeSantos, another republican bully, like them all.
Not surprised he’s beloved on here.
“like them all”
????
Yes, republicans. And no, democrats are hardly any better.
It’s dividing partisan thinking like that, that has that country in a mess IMO.
I believe there is good and bad in every organisation.
You might as well say that all Muslims (or 1970’s Irish) are terrorists.
No, it’s a demographic that is terrified of losing their exalted status that has that country in the mess.
It’s decades of hypocritical appeals to God and exceptionalism, it’s deliberately misinterpreted constitutional amendments and paranoia, it’s greed and avarice and the American fupping dream which hasn’t been a thing in nearly a century.
When you found a nation by genocide of the natives then import others as slave labour to be treated as less than animals, don’t be surprised if it and it’s people are fuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuucked up.
I’m unsurprised with your animus towards DeSantis, right down to getting his name wrong, Ian, since you seem to hate all Americans. I won’t take that personally but I will quote you the poet Leonard Cohen:
“You won’t like what comes after America”
Who said I hate them all?
For all their faults they kept us from a Russian/Chinese 20th century.
Doesn’t mean their school shooting, violent society isn’t fupped though.
I lived in the US during the 90s in a very red state and had lots of good friends there but no way in hell would I ever go back to live permanently.
Place is messed up sadly but still lots of decent people everywhere.
Spelling was a simple typo, no meaning to it though.
You see, Ian, your problem is that you’re prevented from thinking critically by your devotion to the irrationalities of Pop Psychology, the method used to cook up & implant into the more feeble minds among us, the tenets of a self-contradictory & anti-intellectual New Wisdom.
How many people actually die in “school shootings”, how does that number compare to the numbers that die every day in the more diverse areas? Hmmm, I think you’ll find that, although school shootings are promoted heavily by the hysterical screaming wokery of our mainstream media, as they can be used to suggest that people should be disarmed so the government & criminals get a monopoly on gun violence, they are utterly unimportant if you wish to actually deal with the actual death toll from firearms.
These inconvenient facts are anathema to Wokies, just as BLM declare their opposition to maybe 14 African-Americans being killed by cops but seem to think that black lives don’t matter a damn, if 7,000 of them are taken, at gunpoint, by other African-Americans.
You may have lived in the USA but you don’t need to do so to access the FBI figures on who is killing who with what, it’s all there on the website. Warning, perusal of such real world, actual, facts & information may be detrimental to the nonsense you tout & the gibberish you’ve been subjected to by the Woke middle-class midwit sections of society.
If you’ve any intelligence, that is.
Try it, FBI, on the web, on your computer, go on, discover that every single thing you think you know about gun crime in the USA is complete tripe.
‘These inconvenient facts’
These are not facts.
‘maybe 14 African-Americans being killed by cops’
Cops are allowed to kill up to 14 black people per year in the US, apparently.
I think DeSantos’s point is about mask theatre rather than the actual act- and he is right. There is plenty of recorded examples of people sticking them on just before political speeches- which is nothing more than virtue signally.
If the French had noting to protest about, they’d protest about that- and so be the US and their polarisations. To wear or not to wear is considered a political statement in some parts of the US, when it should be just personal choice now.
You cannot challenge such irrational fears with force- only lead by example.
Ron DeSantis and the ‘don’t say gay’ bill.
https://www.bbc.com/news/world-us-canada-60514226
Sad little man clinging onto the past.
But speaking of the past, Ron should be careful what he wishes for and a return to the past would not go so well for him. If the Republicans got enough support and the right demographic people like DeSantis (Italian Catholic) would be shipped back to ‘Not Anglo Land’ and people like SOQ would be imprisoned and tortured.
Never understood why people held to the idea that ‘the enemy of my enemy is my friend’.
They’re not. They are your enemies enemy, nothing more.
Yes I am sorry, I should be a good little gay and tow the identity politics line- and leave the complicated stuff to the straights.
And you are not black if you didn’t vote for the Democrats last time too I expect. Actually if memory serves me, Biden did say something along those lines.
In fairness he was right when he said that they’ll never gain the hearts and souls of the Iranian people- probably because so few of them live in the Ukraine.
Yawn, nobody is saying that.
I guess some turkeys do actually vote for Christmas.
It’s complicated now, isn’t it SOQ? Had you & I decided to move in together, we’d be known locally as a gay couple, probably stoned by ignorant peasants & shunned by ordinary decent people in Ian’s deranged, Nu-Educayshun vision of the past.
These days, however, thanks to developments in our understanding of “Gender” we could avoid all that by one of us simply declaring that we were born in the wrong body, et voila! we’d be a heterosexual couple.
I’m one of that tiny number of people who has a close friend who’s trans & she used to return from her group counseling sessions, prior to transitioning, complaining loudly, as only a woman can, about “the freaks” she had to share the sessions with. I would point out the uncharitable nature of these comments but she’s a woman & wasn’t for turning.
This was K Cavan’s atual speech on the floor of the Florida legislature.
Ah, Ian, I’m glad that the type of politics you favour is now in the ascendancy because it’s undeniable how unprecedentedly free & fantastic the current situation across the planet is. The Wokies have ushered in a New Dawn of Wokeness, it’s just a pity that Civil & Human Rights, Freedom of Speech & other stuff like Democracy, Common Sense, Science, Mathematics & the rest of that crap couldn’t manage to co-exist with it, isn’t it?
Still, at least I can change gender, now, I’d been pining for that “right” for soooo long.
Wow, you really need to be quite triggered to come out with that word salad!
Next time, try having a coherent point, I feel for you here but you have to make an actual point if you want to have a bit of a chat.
