BEWARE: You are now entering The Papers comment section. Home of the nutjobs who will happily spend their entire weekend trading childish insults and
unintentionally hilarious conspiracy theories. “Oh look, the newspapers section has over 200 comments. There must have been some interesting debate.”
    Eh, no.. not quite..!

Hey Hank, fear not, we’ll be back to all things fun later today.. the narky auld fellas have worn themselves out over the weekend.

Fortunately I avoided most of the jibber-jabber on here over the weekend as we’ve been noodling around the azure local waters on a chum’s 35 footer so WiFi has been limited.
I don’t actually sail – I prefer the cumbustion engine – so my job was as steward in charge of mixing gin and tontons and the provision of three skinners.
As we enjoyed an Al fresco lunch of fresh lobster linguini which I knocked up in the galley ( too much garlic tbh ) we all laughed ironically at the thought of 100,000 Ukrainian refugees arriving on our shores imminently – as must many of those from other countries already languishing in direct provision.
First of all at least double that figure as there’s really no way of knowing how many will arrive then add them to the existing immigration figures and suddenly you have a very large number of people putting instant pressure on a system that’s already not fit for purpose.
Nobody appears to be thinking this through. There’s only so many army barracks and rundown one-star hotels in the backend of Roscommon.
Either way it’s time to tighten your belts – it’s going to get very expensive living here.
For any cash-strapped gin aficionados I’d recommend the Greyson London Dry from Aldi.
Reasonably-priced and a very good gin in its own right.

Charger, you make Youghal sound almost, but not quite, nice.. have you had a go on the merries yet..?

Good old Boris has played a blinder on the Ukraine war so far with his Defence Secretary Ben Wallace also coming to the fore.
Here’s a former Ukraine president slapping down a Sky hack’s suggestion that Blighty isn’t doing enough to support Ukraine.

Fwiw, Britain has frozen more Russian bank assets than any other country as part of the international wave of sanctions against Putin’s Kremlin — £258.8 billion of bank assets, versus £240 billion by the US and £33.8 billion by the EU.
How is Ireland doing with its dirty money I wonder ?

        1. TenPin Terry

Providing anti-tank missiles and training to 12,000 Ukranian soldiers from January onwards was far more important to the survival of Ukraine than some bureaucratic cock-up over refugees.
Certainly a lot more important than Ireland posturing at the UN about what a great little country it is to do sweet FA when the chips are down.
But it’s good to see another BS muppet using the Daily Mail as source when it suits them.

Russia has just proved to Ukraine that they HAVE to join Nato or they will never be safe from Russia.

Two Sides Of War (All Wars)

“All wars are planned by older men
    In council rooms apart,
    Who call for greater armament
    And map the battle chart.

But out along the shattered field
    Where golden dreams turn gray,
How very young the faces were
Where all the dead men lay.

Portly and solemn in their pride,
    The elders cast their vote
For this or that, or something else,
    That sounds the martial note.

But where their sightless eyes stare out
    Beyond life’s vanished toys,
I’ve noticed nearly all the dead
    Were hardly more than boys.”

    Henry Grantland Rice.

In the rush to make such a bitchy remark, missing the blatantly obvious is actually quite funny.

          1. SOQ

I am curious, apart form displaying your obvious immaturity- what was the purpose of the comment above?

          2. anti bot

we all knew you’d be like this. nothing to see here, no bombing, no refugees. just like Covid.
whats next climate change? let’s face it you’re just click bait.

    1. anti bot

we all know you’d be “look away”, nothing to see here. there ‘s no bombing, no kids being killed, no refugees. just like Covid. let’s face it you’re just click back. Usually rude and childish to book

Former Guardian journalist, now independent, Jonathan Cook:
    https://twitter.com/Jonathan_K_Cook/status/1500601896352026631

“Again it’s only a handful of mavericks journalists of the left and right – those no longer tied to career advancement – prepared to break ranks with the all-too neat consensus enforced by the rest of the corporate media

    (Link to Peter Hitchens article)’
    Hitchens:
..I have heard a respected MP calling for the deportation of all Russians from this country – all of them. I have heard crazy people calling for a ‘no-fly zone’ in Ukraine.

If they got their way it would mean a terrible and immediate European war. I suspect they do not even know what they are calling for. Can you all please call off this carnival of hypocrisy?

I cannot join in it. I know too much. I know that our policy of Nato expansion – which we had promised not to do and which we knew infuriated Russians – played its part in bringing about this crisis.

I know that Ukraine’s current government, now treated as if it was almost holy, was brought into being by a mob putsch openly backed by the USA in 2014.

I know that the much-admired President Zelensky in February 2021 closed down three opposition TV stations on the grounds of ‘national security’. They went dark that night. I know that the opposition politician Viktor Medvedchuk was put under house arrest last year on a charge of treason. Isn’t this the sort of thing Putin does?

I know that Ukraine’s army has used severe force against Russian civilians in the Don Basin since 2014. The Russians have done dreadful things there, too, but there are plenty of people who will tell you that. The point is that this is not a contest of saints versus sinners, or of Mordor versus the Shire.

..I tire of being told that Nato is purely defensive alliance when we know it bombed Serbia in 1999, incidentally killing civilians, when Serbia had not attacked a Nato member.

I also don’t recall Libya attacking a Nato member before that ‘defensive’ alliance launched the air war on Tripoli which also killed civilians, children included, and turned that country into a cauldron of chaos, benefiting nobody…

..And then there’s the other thing that sticks in my gullet. The countries of the West have egged Ukraine on into a confrontation with Russia which has predictably ended in Putin’s barbaric invasion.

But while we stand and cheer at a safe distance, the Ukrainians are the ones who get shelled, bombed, besieged and driven from their homes. Is this honourable? Does sentimental praise for their bravery make up for it?”

    1. Verbatim

When one says “I Stand With Ukraine!” they’re basically saying, I stand with the failed, corrupt, nazi-klepto-oligarchy that is one of the the biggest weapons and human (sex) trafficker on the planet, that has been shelling their own people in the east for 8 years but that nobody gave a tinker’s damn about any of that because nobody on TV told them to.
That’s not to say that Russia is the “good fellas”

      1. Nigel

Who is telling you that even if those things are true, Putin’s invasion is somehow justified?

    2. Nigel

Blaming everybody but Putin for Putin’s actions. Complaining about the actions of others to excuse the actions of Putin. War apologist.

      1. bisted

…nothing at all to do with relentless Nato expansionism…overthrow of democratically elected administration by a facist mob invading the Capital?

        1. Nigel

No, nothing at all to do with those alleged things. Ukraine aren’t a threat to Russia and Putin doesn’t give a toss about democracy. Haven’t you heard? It’s about saving Chrisianity.

Putin invaded Ukraine before Ukraine joined Nato because if Ukraine joined Nato he wouldn’t be able to invade.

          1. bisted

…haw haw…alleged…very good Nigel…nothing you Democrats love better than a proxy war…preferably as far away as possible…

          2. Vlad X. Novichok

That’s what Toady Choads mad for Putin boner snot do. Relishing in the misery and murder of the innocent is what they’ve demonstrated since this kicked off.

        2. Gerry

You mean the overthrow of golden toilet Yanukovych? That criminal ballot box stuffer is currently cowering in Russia, not daring to visit any Interpol member countries for fear of being imprisoned for a fourth time.

It’s really strange isn’t it how Russia’s neighbours want to join NATO? It’s all a western plot to surround Russia, and nothing to do with Russian aggression against the Baltic states, Georgia and Ukraine. Ukraine in particular should just accept Russian occupation of their territory, say “spasiba” and operate as a good little Russian satellite.

      2. TenPin Terry

Once again Nigel appears to be a rock of sense in a sea of fruit loops.
The idea of excusing Putin for the murder of innocent children by blaming Ukraine and NATO is just too ludicrous to entertain.
The Irish education system has a lot to answer for if the number of dunderheads on here is anything to go by.

          1. Vlad X. Novichok

Nigel is indeed doing God’s work here and fair play to him and his patience.

I however have no patience for that.

Instead I have opted to incessantly mock and deride you Toady Choads for your support and pleasure of Putin’s monstrous barbarity.

          2. Vlad X. Novichok

Why is this Toady Choad allowed to post his love of Putin boner snot and relish in the misery and death of the innocent?

As if what I post is more offensive?!

    Hero Warnie

When Hero Warnie stepped up to bowl
    Gin-soaked wallies heads did roll
Googly, top spin, leg before wicket
An Oz re-defining the Poms’ own cricket
A fitting end for a career lush
We loved him because he was one of us

      1. Mad

It’s the very definition of the type of man you’d aspire to be that he expired in the manner suggested. It must be like looking into a mirror, or is it a reflective cesspool?

        1. TenPin Terry

So you’ve gone from writing a poetic eulogy to Shane Warne to describing his life as a cesspool.
Don’t you ever stop to think occasionally how spud-thick you appear on here ?

          1. Mad

Poor racist little Englander. It doesn’t take much to puncture the “hail fellow, well met” facade. The nuances in my poetry sailed over your fat, little, oddly-shaped, incarnadine pate at mid-wicket: you see to work your type out of your little internet hovel doesn’t take much effort really.

  5. SailorGerry

There was a few pictures doing the rounds on Whatsapp at the weekend of a drug fuelled orgy in Thailand, Shane with 3 hookers in the sack.

If that was his thing, then probably not a bad way to check out, even if a bit premature.

That kind of exercise would put a strain on anyone’s heart, especially after being jabbed so he could travel.

    1. SOQ

The problem is that usually, in such circumstances, there is no absolute way of determining someone’s cause of death. But if the vaccines were are contributing factor rather than the sole reason, does that really make it any better?

People who were arguing such a broad brush when counting CoVid-19 are now doing the exact opposite now when it comes to these experiential gene therapies.

Make no mistake- this is the biggest medical and scientific scandal of our life times.

      1. Cian

We don’t know what killed him.

He was vaccinated. He had had COVID. He was banned for illegal drug usage during his career. He was in his 50s. These are things we know.

Any of these could have contributed to his death. Or even none of them. Until more is known it is a waste of time to blame any one of these.

        1. SOQ

I agree it is speculation Cian but the backdrop is a huge increase in heart related issues among the vaccinated. It is also quite apparent that the medical professional are reluctant- or more likely afraid- to make any associations, despite the fact that in some cases it is quite obvious that there is a link.

In the IT world, when a system starts malfunctioning- the first question you ask is what has changed. It may be something you have been assured will not affect the environment, like an operating system update, but you still step the system back in time because sometimes, it has just not installed properly.

Unfortunately with humans, you cannot do that and the damage may be irreparable. Either way, there is a very obvious bias in favour of these vaccines which will take years to rebalance.

      2. TenPin Terry

SOQ – I would suggest the majority of the recipients of the 10.88billion COVID vaccines already delivered on the planet would probably disagree with you.
But it’s that age-old question of who to believe – some of the greatest scientific and medical brains alive or some anonymous feller off the internet.
My four jabs indicate my choice.

        1. SOQ

Good for you and going forward, I wish you the very best of health.

But, that does not mean everyone has been so lucky. There are horrific personal accounts emerging and to use a football analogy, we are not even at half time yet. We have no idea what the long term impact of those things could be.

CoVid-19 vaccines may be a contributing factor to those deaths and some of the autopsy reports are reporting some very unusual, perhaps never seen before conditions.

Time will tell but unfortunately, just like CoVid-19 itself, the truth may out from data analysis which means, past tense.

          1. jungleman

It’s impressive to see you sustaining your antivaxx campaign and pro-Putin campaign at the same time. But aren’t you concerned that you might have reached full capacity for propagating alt-right ideology and conspiracy theories? Do you have the strength to wage climate change denialism at the same time too? Trump is cranking up his presidential campaign also… this might be too much for you to handle all at once.

          2. anti bot

see a thread on the invasion and have to bring it back to Covid. what about the people suffering from long Covid? go on enlighten us oh great scientific one?
