Local lad says none of this Ukraine business would have happened if Katherine Zappone was UN special envoy.

    Meanwhile: “Cook for Ukraine”

    1. K.Cavan

If Zappone had been in the job those stunning & brave female Ukrainian soldiers (no, they are!) would’ve had the advantage of nongendered toilet facilities.
The invasion represents a rare but narrow window of opportunity to reflect, reimagine & reset our attitude to battlefield sanitary facilities.

      1. SOQ

Well as I said yesterday I am doing my bit.

I wear my mask to protect Ukrainian pregnant men from climate change.

I reckon, ce, if you were cracking a joke about whips & crevices, while smoking crack & having the crack with your mates, you wouldn’t spot a crack in The Narrative (there is only one) if it cracked you over the head, with a cracked glass.
That there, in The Independent, which is a comic, describes “media reports” of “one guest” saying the war was “worse than Afghanistan”, which, given the facts of the decade-long Soviet-Afghan War, is tripe. Isn’t it?
      Harumph.

    1. K.Cavan

Now yer talkin’, Ferg. This is the nitty gritty. At any other time, I’d say it’s a bombshell but not right now. For a second or two, though, I thought they were saying he was married to his own step-daughter, so being married & having a mistress, as is the habit of French Presidents, apart from Macron, who doesn’t like women that way, well, it doesn’t seem so bad, really.

    1. K.Cavan

No McDonald’s, Coke or Pepsi, no Netflix, no Social Media, by the time this is over the Russians will be the healthiest, least degenerate people in Eurasia.
Now, if we can just cut off the supply of those blue pills from Ringaskiddy, they’ll have a blooming Renaissance on their hands by the time the smoke clears.

      1. f_lawless

The Pentagon’s Office of Strategic Influence is involved in the dissemination propaganda via the media. What we’re talking about here, is a “full scale global censorship regime” implemented by Big Tech as Greenwald puts it. So yes, the level of censorship being instituted is at a level hitherto unseen in the West.

Ironically, it’s yourself who seems to have forgotten the Office of Strategic Influence, demonstrated by your apparent lack of any scepticism in certain narratives currently being propagated via Western corporate media.

        1. Nigel

Credulousness about western media narratives isn’t balanced by credulousness about Russian narratives, that just expands the credulousness.

          1. bisted

…are you suggesting we should take sides…we shouldn’t believe the one that has proven to have consistently lied…

They all lie; it’s not new.

“We’re all going to die, all of us, what a circus! That alone should make us love each other but it doesn’t. We are terrorized and flattened by trivialities, we are eaten up by nothing.”
            Charles Bukowski

        2. Fearganainm

I’ve forgotten nothing. Your ‘outrage’ seems to be based upon a belief that something ‘new’ and ‘sinister’ is happening when it’s merely the ongoing use of all available forms of media to propagandize that’s been with us for centuries. Long before ‘the mighty wurlitzer’ there have been strategically placed intelligence assets belonging to assorted states working in media, as there are still. Why do you think that was and is? It’s hardly novel that ‘information control’ and attempts at influencing same is happening, it would be more surprising if it wasn’t. Any changes in technology that provide new modes of communicating will be exploited too.

You’re not as ‘woke’ as you perhaps imagine yourself to be.

          1. f_lawless

If you haven’t forgotten it and accept that strategically placed state assets have long been operating in media organisations, then why do you so enthusiastically propagate and defend western establishment media narratives on matters such as Ukraine and Covid, etc? Shouldn’t you take a more sceptical stance on the stuff the media subjects the public to here in the West?

Your comment reads like a bit of a pseudo-intellectual spiel. My original point is specifically about censorship and yet you go off on your own tangent about propaganda, based on the ridiculous premise that I’m only suddenly becoming aware that media propaganda exists. Towards the end you include “information control” into the same false premise.

You put the word ‘sinister’ in quotation marks as if to mock the notion that this new Big Tech censorship regime could be described as a sinister. It gives me the impression that either you don’t have a clear grasp of the definition of the word or maybe you’ve fallen foul to a mix of boiling-frog syndrome and apathy..

          2. Fearganainm

“…why do you so enthusiastically propagate and defend western establishment media narratives on matters such as Ukraine and Covid, etc?…”

I don’t. I post articles from sources which give their sources. A reader should be already aware that media opinion pieces are going to have particular slants but the reporting of facts – before anyone attempts to interpret them – is hardly indicative of bias when certain facts are incontrovertible.

You do come across as a Johnny-come-lately to the whole issue of propaganda.

You’re from Ireland – allegedly. From its inception the Free State government imposed editiorial control on newspapers. Censorship was later extended to the books people were ‘allowed’ to read. And what do you think Section 31 was? Or the black propaganda outfits run by the Brits in the North? Or ‘phone tapping scandals?

You go on as though you’ve just stumbled upon some malign plot when in reality anything that is happening in terms of media control/influencing/distortion is just same old same old same as it ever was. It’s not a ‘discovery’ of any kind.

Maybe you’re at the stage where you’ve just stumbled out of Plato’s cave and are trying to work out the landscape. It would be useful if you’d learn to discern that the roaring of grifters and propagandists outside the cave is as deceiving as the shadows that you tried to interpret within it.

Shilling for Ivermectin is not a good look. Slavishly following the line of assorted other grifters who latched on to other passing fads isn’t either. Nor is trying to justify in any way, shape or form the death and misery being visited on people in Ukraine by Putin’s illegal war on that country.

Ireland has been dishing up heavily censored information for a long time. It’s media have also served up all kinds of propaganda for decades. Where were you then?

          3. Me So Harney

            Contrarionganainm..

Censorship is everywhere therefore you’re a shill..

            Finished off with ivermectin nonsense..

There isn’t any establishment line you won’t slavishly parrot.

          4. Fearganainm

            You so wormy

You’re going to hate the Ivermectin demolition when it comes, sucker.

            Just reeling you in…

          5. Mad

Why are you accusing F_lawless of doing things they are clearly not doing Fearganainm? I believe and hate to be so pedantic but a better moniker for you would be Feargananam

          6. f_lawless

            @Fearganainm

“I post articles from sources which give their sources.”

That’s quite the claim given some of the stuff you’ve been posting. A quick search confirms that you’re deluding yourself.
            https://www.broadsheet.ie/2022/03/01/tuesdays-papers-126/#comment-2402070
You link to a UK Independent article. Quote; Senior western officials confirmed on Monday that thermobaric rocket launchers had been seen near major cities”.

Anyone who’s been paying sharp enough attention to the various major geopolitical conflicts over the past couple of decades or so should know that the reputation of anonymous official intelligence sources is now firmly in the gutter. It’s become such an obvious method of disseminating propaganda through the media while avoiding accountability that even the average punter on the street has cottoned on to it.

“You do come across as a Johnny-come-lately to the whole issue of propaganda.”

On the contrary, I’ve been commenting on this website since about 2013 and in all honesty, the majority of my comments have been related to challenging the ubiquitous corporate media propaganda that we are being continuously subjected to (as I see it).

You’re a pseudo-intellectual who can’t stay on point and doesn’t have the self-awareness to realise they’re repeatedly regurgitating establishment propaganda.

        3. Fearganainm

A part of your (ongoing) problem is that you seem to have no interest in rechecking the things you believe to be ‘fake news’ or from what you deem to be ‘unreliable sources’.

e.g. The British MoD claims that the Russian Defence Ministry has confirmed using thermobaric weapons

          https://www.thetimes.co.uk/article/russia-admits-firing-thermobaric-vacuum-weapons-in-ukraine-g6sl78zcb

          https://www.thetimes.co.uk/article/russia-admits-firing-thermobaric-vacuum-weapons-in-ukraine-g6sl78zcb

          https://twitter.com/DefenceHQ/status/1501621370614173701

Of course you’ll object again to the source but that’s what you do – dismiss anything that challenges your perspective. If it’s not the source, whether a named official/journalist or an anonymous briefing, it’s the actual media outlet publishing it that you’ll complain about. That isn’t being objective, it’s not even an effort to triangulate sources to sift out propaganda/false information. It’s a rather childish “Don’t believe you!” response as day and daily the bodies pile up and towns, cities and villages are reduced to ruins. What do you think is making that happen?

        4. Fearganainm

Here’s a name for you, you can contact him yourself for verification when you’ve the time. After you’ve checked with the (Putin approved) Russian media source and the Russian Defence Ministry:

…Sergeant Sergey Gubarev used the thermobaric weapon while crossing a river in the Chernihiv region on Friday, Russia’s Zvezdanews TV network reported. The article was later spotted by the UK’s MoD, who wrote: “With precise fire from the TOS-1A heavy flamethrower system, he suppressed enemy artillery and mortar crews, destroyed 14 weapons and military equipment, as well as more than 40 nationalists.”

Exactly, when the central banks force their digital currency on us all we will know the meaning of control. Money can be time limited where if you don’t spend your hundred dollars in a month it vanished. Thus making people buy stuff they don’t want to, all in the cause of checking inflation, not. This is just one of the scenarios possible in our bright futures. Oh look, a squirrel.

      1. Duncan Wheeler

For those conspiracy name callers this monetary experiment has already been trialed in that bastion of freedom, China. Have no doubt this, along with information censorship which the Ukraine situation has enabled, is the first of many of our freedoms to be cancelled. Have a nice day.

        1. Grain of terror

Oh, I cant wait for the day. Will finally get yourself, Kevin, Matty, Sailorclown and the rest out of the house for a victory jig. Seeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeee , I told you, I told you, I (not we, never we when it comes to the crunch in clownsville) IWASRIIIIIIIIIIIGHT

          1. E'Matty

I can’t speak for the others, but I personally would like nothing more than to be wrong in my analysis of where we’re all headed. It won’t be a victory lap. It’ll be the depressing reality that, christ, here it is, we’re screwed. We’re just trying our best to stop the bus going over the cliff, and almost certainly our efforts are completely in vain. I know that. Still have to try. As they say, we’re all in this together, whether or not you wish to face the reality of the world unfolding before us.

          2. Grain of terror

Sadly not true for you Matt. Never seen you so full of glee here the day you got your vax pass on the back of a positive omicron test.
Genuine bit of advice for you, be careful where you are storing all that emergency fuel you have, you dont want to Richard Pryor the shire out of yourself.

Lovely day for conspiracy theorising in the comment section…

Sadly, I’m Putin’ on my shoe and getting out for the day…

    1. SOQ

I do not stand with Ukraine
I do not stand with Russia
I do not stand with the UN or NATO

I stand with the civilians in each country who will lose everything and be displaced, while politicians and media play their war and propaganda games.

I am no sure why that is so offensive to so many people- anon.

      1. John Smith

Not offensive to me, SOQ. Sound common sense. Two things the last two years should have taught us is that power corrupts all forms of government and control and that the ones who suffer are the ordinary people.

      2. Vlad X. Novichok

Because you’re lying. The glee you Toady Choads have demonstrated here over the past two weeks regarding the dismantling and destruction of Ukraine is frankly unforgivable. The falsity of your narrative, whataboutary and toadying for Putin’s boner snot are telling.

Thankfully you and your kind remain a tiny, minuscule minority in this country.

        The Narcissist’s Prayer for you.

        That didn’t happen.
And if it did, it wasn’t that bad.
And if it was, that’s not a big deal.
And if it is, that’s not my fault.
And if it was, I didn’t mean it.
And if I did, you deserved it.

        1. SOQ

If you notice there is the word ‘anon’ at the bottom of that text which means the author is anonymous- it also means I did not write it. But, I do agree with it- 100%.

As for the rest of your guff- you can try and force a binary choice of ‘them and us’ all you want- but its not going to work. We are wise to the game this time around.

          1. SOQ

Well at least you people have stopped with the far right and Nazi name calling- not a great look while also cheerleading the Ukrainian version of the KKK I suppose.

          2. Vlad X. Novichok

Whatever about Nazis in the Ukraine, you and your cohort of Toady Choads prove there’s plenty of yis here on Broadsheet.

          3. SOQ

Unfortunately for #NATO, they appear to be clueless about what they’re promoting in #Ukraine. They tweeted four pictures celebrating the women of Ukraine on International Women’s Day , including a pic of a woman soldier… good try NATO, but this one’s a Nazi.

            https://twitter.com/FLAFGreaterMan1/status/1501307972932321280

Not everyone you disagree with is a Nazi but people who wear Nazi symbols usually are.

If that confuses you then there really isn’t a lot I or indeed anyone else can do about it.

      3. Fergalito

        There’s the bottom line.

Like the Swahili saying goes “when two elephants fight the grass underneath is trampled, when two elephants make love the grass underneath is trampled”

Bryce “Thug Nasty” Mitchel-whats wrong with McGregor or do you once again feel some drunken connection to a MMA fighter from the dirty south, he’s a cracker from Arkansas. What headlines, where,or are you drinking already ?

  3. SOQ

“Oh, what a tangled web we weave, when first we practice to deceive!” (Sir Walter Scott, 1808)

No doubt the usual spin merchants will dismiss this because of ‘sources’, while conveniently ignoring the content- so feel free to select your own.

    https://search.brave.com/videos?q=Klaus+Schwab+%26+Hunter+Biden+Connected+to+Ukraine+Bio-Labs

But while we are on the subject of InfoWars- I have asked this question before but nobody seems to know the answer- How did Alex Jones predict a ‘giant war’ four months before it happened?

      1. SOQ

Edward Dowd has also predicted a very interesting scenario- that when one of more of these pharmaceutical companies are proven to have committed fraud, then their indemnity becomes null and void- which would make sense because it is based on the assumption of contractual compliance.

And when that happens, it will become a legal open season not just from injured parties but also governments, which in turn will take down both the FDA and CDC. Fauci has gone to ground, but that may be more to do with Ukraine’s dirty dealings than vaccine manufacturing of course.

In tandem comes stinging accusations from Dr Robert Malone- and I assume Peter McCullough because he was standing beside him- that the CDC have committed fraud by withholding documents which were relevant to informed consent. This game is about to get ramped up a few notches.

  4. TenPin Terry

Today I will be mostly wearing Piz Buin Factor 30 and a pair of England beach shorts for the rugger and cricket.
It’s bloomin’ scorchio already and I’ve not even had my mango smoothie for brekker.
But in the meantime I rather like this even though it’s a sad lament.
A young violinsist Zooms from his basement in Kyiv – with a little support from around the world.

If I see any Ukrainians at the beach today I shall buy them a gin and tonton in support of their struggle.
    Marvellous™

  5. TenPin Terry

Mehole and Boris are at the rugger in Twickers today and I wonder if they’ll be talking about Ukrainian refugees.
Certainly there has been scant discussion in Ireland as to exactly what to do with a possible influx of up to 100,000.
Joe O’Public opening their doors in welcome is very laudable but what happens if the conflict drags on for years ?
In Blighty there are already 37,000 asylum seekers and Afghan refugees housed in hotels at a cost of £5million a day because there is simply nowhere else to put them.
In Ireland this week a New Ross estate agent revealed unprecedented levels of demand from Irish renters with just one rental property on his books.
So after Ireland has done saying aren’t we wonderful exactly where do you put 100,000 people arriving unexpectedly.
Typically today’s edition of yhe Irish Times Inferiority Complex puts the boot into Blighty but doesn’t offer an solution nor even pose the question.

Which is why the Blue Shirts had to cut her. And they did it at a time they could have done with her, and they didn’t blink.
I’m told there is no returning into the party – Barry Walsh style, ever, for her. So fú** knows what’s known behind closed doors.

Growing view in the north is that the south needs to get its act together in respect of money hungry GP chancers demanding at least €60-70- despite not solving anything apart from saying hello?

      1. Fearganainm

Apparently the real growing view in the North is “What does it take to get to even SEE a GP these days?” You’re lucky to get a GP to even give you a telephone call, let alone arrange a face to face appointment or, even rarer, a home visit.

“One man was detained in Poland suspected of raping a 19-year-old refugee he’d lured with offers of shelter after she fled war-torn Ukraine. Another was overheard promising work and a room to a 16-year-old girl before authorities intervened. Another case inside a refugee camp at Poland’s Medyka border, raised suspicions when a man was offering help only to women and children. When questioned by police, he changed his story. As millions of women and children flee across Ukraine’s borders in the face of Russian aggression, concerns are growing over how to protect the most vulnerable refugees from being targeted by human traffickers or becoming victims of other forms of exploitation…”
