Further to Ukraine’s banning of military-aged men from leaving the country…

…via EuroNews:

Members of Ukraine’s transgender community are having trouble fleeing Russia’s bombardment of the country, activists have told Euronews.

They say some are being stopped at the border because the gender markers on their passports or identification documents do not match their actual genders.

Activists say both transgender men and women are facing the problem, but it is a particular problem for the latter.

“The situation is very hard because the LGBTQ+ community was feeling marginalised and discriminated against before the war began,” said Igor Medvid, a coordinator for HPLGBT.

Many people say that when they attempted to cross the border, the border police and the border guards are making their decision based on the gender marker in the passport…and we consider this as another example of lawful transphobia.”

Meanwhile…

While LGBTQ+ activists in Ukraine have made strides over the past couple of years, there are still many barriers for trans people.

Before 2017, members of the trans community had to spend time supervised in a mental institution before they could begin transitioning.

But while that requirement has been scrapped, people still need an outpatient psychiatric examination to change their gender markers, which could lead to inpatient hospitalisation.

They also have to undergo “irreversible medical intervention”.

There has to be a way of smuggling those people out because it is happening for men?

I haven’t seen anything about trans people but there are videos doing the rounds of gay people been beaten up and rainbow flaps being burned, so just like the blacks and Indians- it should be no surprise that they are getting discriminated against at the border.

Some nasty prejudices being exposed, some hard-earned progress threatened. LGTBQ people being mistreated by their country and neightbours, and utterly terrified of the Russians.

  3. bell

So transgender people who now identify as female are not allowed leave the Country?

Stay and fight for your Country so instead of skulking off

    1. SOQ

If Azov types were the dominant force within the Irish army, I sure as hell would not be ‘fighting for my country’- I’d be fighting against it.

Unfortunately for Ukraine, the left wingers have already been ran out of the place.

      1. Rob_G

Do you ever, in the course of your day as a gay man who spends much of his life parroting Kremlin slogans online, question the point at which your life led you to this juncture?

          1. SOQ

BOTH have a history of locking up members of the LGBTQ community sweetheart, and it would be a toss of a coin as to which is worse.

But in Ukraine’s case it is a country which is well documented as being riddled with far right Nazis- an inconvenient truth most would prefer to ignore.

          2. paul

so when faced with, as you say, two countries that have a troubling recent (and ongoing) history of mis-treating their LGBTQ population you find yourself choosing to support one of them? Why not criticise both? Dealing with your logic is like wading through soup.

            …and speaking of soup. Lunchtime.

          3. Nigel

            ‘BOTH have a history’

Most countries have similar histories, but by all accounts things were improving in Ukraine, and only getting worse in Russia. The fascist dictatorship where things are only getting worse, invaded the other where things were improving. Only a coin toss in your head.

          4. SOQ

Interesting how the same people who were screaming FACIST and NAZI at everyone who dared disagree with them during the pandemic, are going through such mental gymnastics in order to avoid the uncomfortable truth that they are now cheerleading on the real deal.

This post is about trans people trying to get out of UKRAINE- and they are sure as hell not trying to get into Russia- so why the deflection? Because of the above is why.

It doesn’t matter if it was Russia or the US acting as the hostile force, trans people would be in exactly the same situation, facing the exact same discrimination either way.

          5. paul

“Uh oh, this discussion is not going how I’d planned… uh… LOOK OVER THERE.”

the only people screaming ‘nazi’ and ‘fascist’ were the people protesting against vaccines, masks, social distancing and lockdowns, ie. you and people who share your beliefs. Birra history there for you, might help in the future.

          6. Nigel

‘Interesting how the same people who were screaming FACIST and NAZI at everyone who dared disagree with them during the pandemic, are going through such mental gymnastics in order to avoid the uncomfortable truth that they are now cheerleading on the real deal.’

Even if I actually thought you were a Nazi or a fascist, I still wouldn’t want Putin to invade and slaughter thousands of innocents just to crush you under a tank. Is that cheerleading? I dunno, that actually seems quite straightforward to me, not mentally gymnastic at all.

‘It doesn’t matter if it was Russia or the US acting as the hostile force,’

One should never say ‘you’ve got to hand it to the US military,’ but they’re unlikely to go rounding up LGBTQ people because their political leaders want to give them ‘special treatment.’

        1. Broadbag

‘reds under the bed’ has been replaced by ‘Azovs everywhere’ they sure do get around – pretty sure there was one on that TV tower Russia missiled. They’re in theatres and schools and maternity wards too. Russia’s apparently brutal missile and shelling offensive across Ukraine is actually just precision de-Azoving. Go Putin!

        2. SOQ

Just a week ago you were arguing that there was equal numbers of Nazis on both sides- so yeah, whatever.

          1. Nigel

I never argued that at all. Why do you have to lie to make your points? Doesn’t that tell you anything about the nature of the beliefs you hold?

          2. Vlad X. Novichok

Lie first. If that fails then it’s whataboutwhataboutwhatabout..

            It’s the toady way.

    2. Dinkum

The thing not being reported is how many transgender women to men are also trying to flee
In all honesty we have equality of the sexes but women expect to be treated differently when it comes to being cannon fodder
I am totally against war and believe rules are made by those that are hot to go down the war path so they can justify it
Wars should be fought only by politicians and leave the people out of it
It takes two to tangle and listening to the rhetoric before Putin illegally invaded Ukraine was pretty hostile from both sides and NATO the US and EU
And did zelensky not realise the road he was going down could of led to the present situation
Now it’s too late and all we can pray for is that it will end soon

      1. Gavin

He probably did realize to some extent, but I don’t think anyone expected Russia to invade and Zelensky fell for the promises that NATO would ride to Ukraine’s rescue. Ukraine has been used to bait Russia, who knows how they didn’t see it.

        1. Dinkum

Really only a comedian could think like what zelensky thought
          All his advisers his ministers
I presume in a democracy no one man decides policy

In all honesty zelensky rattled comrade putins cage knowing this monster was capable of anything but what gets me is his job was on behalf of his people millions of them that are now doing the dying loosing their minds their property their future
As for NATO they were pouring petrol on the fire

        1. Dinkum

But it will not until the far right is crushed
Then I think it will end or if the whole communist regime in Russia is eliminated
I think when the aznov brigade and other far right militias fighting around east Ukraine are neutralised he will withdraw because it’s unwinable to occupy the whole of Ukraine for Russia
And when he withdraws he can say well there you are I have denazified Ukraine and the Ukrainian governments of the future realise what happens
A bit like israel and Gaza in ways

At the end of the day Russia cares nothing about what the west thinks and they have alternative markets
I feel sorry for all the western institutions and companies that invested in Russia because Russia will just seize those assets
And this is a lesson we might see if China decides to do the same in coming years
Because China also dose what China wants
We now see the folly of globalisation

          1. Nigel

I think you mean, the Ukrainian far right is replaced with a more Russia-friendly far right. Also Russia hasn’t been communist for nearly three decades now.

          2. SOQ

You may be right Dinkum who knows but I think a neutral buffer country between NATO and Moscow is Russia’s strategic preference. Zelenskyy will obviously have to go, Azov disbanded and the labs dismantled.

All of which is entirely doable, although because they despise Russia, I suspect that Azov will fight to the bitter end.

Why the US administration is so against such a compromise is another story, and would suggest they are way more involved in Ukraine than they claim.

          3. Nigel

It’s amazing that you can condemn Ukraine for not accepting a peace deal that is not being offered.

          4. SOQ

I have outlined what Russia’s demands are above- it is Zelenskyy who is acting the maggot. He will of course agree but in the mean time, more and more people will be killed or injured and more and more people will be displaced. Such suffering for nothing.

It wouldn’t surprise me if he is actually enjoying the international fame- it is a narcissistic trait after all, and is very common in both comedians and actors.

          5. Nigel

No you haven’t. You’ve outlined a vague version of three of tthe numerous things Putin claims to want or not want, and it includes something that came out of an online Qanon account. There is no offer, there is no deal, there is nothing to agree on. Zelensky is defending his country, Putin is attacking it.

  4. ANO

Bodger, you’ve changed the meaning of my opening line with your edit, would you mind removing the whole line and noting that you’ve edited the post ?

    Thank you.

    1. Dinkum

      Just like all
It’s disgusting men women children everyone old and young for rape is a hate crime
      That is the problem

      1. Ian - oG

True but things were already difficult for them in Ukraine and even they had made tentative steps towards increasing protections and rights but if Russia takes over they are far more regressive.

Putin likes to pain Ukraine as a part of Russia so however average Ukrainians are treated you can be guaranteed trans gender people will be treated far worse.

  5. ce

The best solution for all this would be a “final solution” and to just ask russia if they could find the time to blow up ukraine… seems fair given the circumstances…

BS – Putin the cat/bear among the pigeons…

  6. Dinkum

The final solution was aimed at the Jews Slavs Russians also anyone who was homosexual crippled physically or mentally
    People regarded as sub human
The pre runner to it was in Namibia where they had a special death camp called shark island

  7. Broadbag

Great to see ‘Molly B’ get an airing, fill your conspiracy du jour bingo card with a quick glance at her Twitter feed, you’ll be shocked to learn that she’s anti-mask, plandemic touting, and of course some George Soros guff in there too.

What is this weird link between Covid deniers being pro-Putin? If you’re about to type ‘critical thinking’ please don’t bother.

    1. Johnny

Losers,in the states mostly white, low income, low educational outcomes, debt issues, most them in the states would also be staunchly anti LBGT rights, obsessed with kiddie porn and child molestation and,and NAZI’s,anyone opposing them is getting paid to do so.

    2. SOQ

Or to put it another way- what is the link between the CoVid Cult and pro Ukrainian Nazis?

Well that one is easy- it is the next ‘thing’ to virtue signal about- no extra brain matter required.

They have been proven to have repeatedly lied during the pandemic but somehow the Ukrainian coverage is all true? No it is bloody not.

  8. Ellie Campbell

There’s a brilliant Jimmy Carr joke waiting to happen here. But for now Trans women deserve a special place; Kiev’s front line, if they have the balls for it.

    1. SOQ

There is a “joke” of Jimmy Carr’s about unvaccinated doing the rounds. It wasn’t even funny just rude, but it is being held up to show him for the moron he is- and the fact it hasn’t aged well, at all.
