To me the man is a proud nationalist patriot, doing his best, for his country. And yes he has made a fortune out of his position, which I do not agree with, but ultimately he loves his country, and every politician is crooked globally.

Putin is an avowed anti-democrat. He believes in authoritarian government and so far has made it his business to undermine liberal democratic systems worldwide. He has achieved this like the soviets did, by using the complete Nazi playbook. When the Nazis were defeated in 1945 the soviets took over their infrastructure wholesale and made it work for them. Not to say of course that all politicians wouldn’t love the power but there are few enough willing to wage war with it.
