This afternoon.

China warned it would take strong measures if US House of Representatives Speaker Nancy Pelosi visits Taiwan following media reports she would go next week.

Via Reuters:

China considers democratically ruled Taiwan its own territory and the subject is a constant source of friction between Beijing and Washington, especially given strong U.S. military and political support for the island.

The possible visit has not been confirmed by Pelosi’s office or Taiwan’s government, but some Japanese and Taiwanese media reported it would take place after she visits Japan this weekend.

Chinese Foreign Ministry spokesperson Zhao Lijian told reporters that Beijing firmly opposed all forms of official interactions between the United States and Taiwan, and Washington should cancel the trip.

Not to worry, Bill will sort it out with a blowjob.

The Guardian? Hahahahaha! What a cliche you are, Sara. Nobody with a functioning brain takes anything that pathetic rag publishes seriously.

Since it lies 180 Kilometers off the coast of mainland China & 12,468 Kilometers from mainland USA, Taiwan is China’s business. The USA wouldn’t allow China interfere in any island 180 Km off it’s coast, as the CIA would be overthrowing its government at regular intervals.
Until recently, Taiwan’s status as a ”Democracy” might’ve clouded the issue somewhat but the Western vision of Democracy has become bankrupt & now lies closer to Mussolini’s vision of a Corporate State, i.e. Fascism, than anything that could be called Liberal Democracy. Rule by Oligarchs is now the norm in The West & the USA no longer has any business telling other people how to run their countries. Politicians who can’t define a woman need to concentrate on getting their own act together.

“Taiwan is China’s business.”… nice… have you ever meet anybody from Taiwan, or China for that matter for… more than five seconds… do you have any idea what they might actually think about where they live and how they are governed… etc…

Naughty bit of trolling from Cavan. I do hope you read this as a troll should be trolled. Some critical comments 1.)Your initial assertion is geographically ignorant and inaccurate. Bits of the ROC (or Taiwan if the holders of the passport are to be believed) are a lot closer to China than 180km Google Kinmen. 2.) Since the island of Ireland lies a mere 16 km distance from Britain at its closest point… 3.) Taiwan’s democracy is in my experience vastly superior to Ireland’s. They had to fight for it quite recently and repeatedly – and it shows. 4.) Pelosi is emblematic of all that is wrong with the American political system. She obviously has her own agenda and given the documented greed and avarice of her and her husband its highly unlikely that she has given much thought to what would be in Taiwan’s best interest. But why would Taiwan turn down her help, no matter how self interested the offer? 5. Taiwan is led by a highly educated and extremely capable woman who is in a same sex relationship. I thought, given the tone of your final comment, that this particular woman’s defined role as President was worth noting. 6. The mainstay of the Taiwanese modern armoured force is an armoured vehicle with a big gun called a Clouded Leopard (after a probably extinct indigenous predator in Taiwan). This vehicle was designed by Timoney Technology, an Irish company. If Pelosi merits your disapproval then the Irish tank design should really annoy you although it rather delights some members of the Irish community in Taiwan to know that Ireland is involved.
