French President Emmanuel Macron accused his far-right challenger Marine Le Pen of lying to voters about her campaign platform as he sought to rally support two days before the French presidential election’s first round.

Macron, whose re-election seemed a foregone conclusion just weeks ago, is now facing a stiff challenge from Le Pen. Her solid comeback in opinion polls has put her victory within the margin of error in some surveys.
“Her fundamentals have not changed: it’s a racist programme that aims to divide society and is very brutal,” Macron told Le Parisien newspaper. “There was a clear strategy (from Le Pen’s camp) to hide what is brutal in her programme.”
Le Pen told broadcaster Franceinfo that she was “shocked” at Macron’s accusation of racism which she rejected, saying her programme aimed at putting the rights of French people first, regardless of their origin.

Le Pen is pretty much Centre Right, now. Obviously, she might have a go at stemming the tide of criminals coming into the country from Africa but the EU would ride in to the criminals’ defence, since they recognise their fellows when they see them.
This, of course, might speed up the inevitable exit of France from that neo-fascist bulwark against Democracy.

It wasn’t le Pen who brought the French people out in their millions to protest against ‘papers please’ and mandated medical procedures.
I am pretty certain there are plenty of people who hold a grudge against Macon over that, especially given the downright thuggish behaviour of the police.
But just like England, the protestors were a fair split between left and right so it is an unknown as where that vote will go, but one thing is for certain, it won’t be going to Macon.

Absolutely. I mean, in for a penny, in for a pound when you’re delighted with Putin these days.
I think it’s just a few lost souls on twitter or on a few websites. Actual real people with lives/wives/kids and other people they interact with in real life, across a garden wall or outside the school, or in the pub don’t actually think like this.
If you look at the amount of successful far right or far left candidates in Ireland they are a tiny minority. It’s the same on websites with a very small, if loud group of people screaming about Nazis or Communists or false flags or Qanon or Soros or whoever/whatever the new “Big Bad” is.
The sun is shining. It is cold, but lovely out. It is Friday. A nice Gewürztraminer and some nibbles await. . As Van the Man once said, “Let’s enjoy it while we can.” Be excellent to one another. Peace.
Nope- millions of people took to the French streets week after week for months THIS YEAR. They didn’t take it lying down like the Irish. It will be factor in this election, especially as a vote loser for Macron.
