“A Sanction Cocktail”

at

President Volodymyr Zelensky addresses the Finnish parliament this morning

This morning/afternoon.

Helsinki, Finland.

Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky (without his friend) told Finland’s parliament  that a “sanction cocktail, that would be remembered just like Molotov cocktails” is needed to halt Russian aggression.

Zelensky asked Finland to “show even more leadership” in the European Union, saying this will be “the biggest contribution in the security of Europe.”

He said that Ukraine needs weapons “that some of the EU partners have,” as well as “powerful efficient sanctions against Russia on a permanent basis.”

Adding:

“We need to think about how to protect Europe from the Russian energy weapon. How much longer can Europe ignore the introduction of embargo against oil supplies from Russia?”

Kramatorsk railway station

This afternoon.

Via CNN:

The Russian Ministry of Defense issued a statement Friday calling the missile strike on a railway station in the Ukrainian city a “provocation.”

The statement mirrored recent denials of the indiscriminate killing of civilians in the Kyiv suburb of Bucha.

“All the statements of representatives of the Kyiv nationalist regime about the alleged ‘missile attack’ by Russia on April 8 at the railway station in Kramatorsk are a provocation and absolutely do not correspond to reality,” the statement said.

“On April 8, the Russian armed forces did not conduct or plan any artillery fires in the city of Kramatorsk.

“We emphasize that the Tochka-U tactical missiles, the wreckage of which was found near the Kramatorsk railway station and published by eyewitnesses, are used only by the Ukrainian armed forces.”

Ukrainian forces have the Soviet-designed Tochka missile in their inventory but it has also been used by Russian and separatist forces in the past.

Ah yes, just like how Malaysia Airlines Flight 17 was initially a Ukrainian troop transport according to the Russians.

Then they didn’t shoot it down, the Ukrainians did.

Then they didn’t shoot it down, separatists did.

Then, eventually, months later as the evidence piles, up they grudgingly admit it was in-fact Russia who shot it down and killed 300 innocent civilians.

That whole saga is about as believable as the Ukrianians shelling their own train stations here.

    1. K. Cavan

The airliner was shot down by the same Ukrainian irregulars (i.e. Nazis) that have killed 14,000 in Donbas, as they hadn’t been trained up by NATO, at that point.
All the other crap in the media is propaganda, comprising allegations from areas there are no journalists in, because they’re stupid but not that stupid.
Remember the US bombed Iraq back into the Stone Age, because of the Iraqi nature of its population? Remember the constant accusations of war crimes levelled against the Americans? Me neither.
What do you actually think is going on here, I mean really, the actual invasion of Iraq, based on the WMDs that they didn’t have, was a war crime itself but being “Our” war crime, it didn’t count.
      Just how naive are you?
Do you actually, genuinely believe whatever nonsense the Media come out with? It’s not the 1980s, you know, the media is corrupt, they lie most of the time. Even when they tell the truth, they spin it to suit the narrative.
There’s only one excuse for trusting the MSM, at this stage.

      1. Nigel

You don’t remember accusations of war crimes against Americans? How selective of you.

        1. Dinkum

          Deflection Nigel as per usual
Since 2014 the Kiev coup army has been shelling the poo out of the Donetsk and Luhansk area
          It 2022 the Russians invaded
If zelenskys forces had resisted from temptation to kill up to 25 thousand people then I could say Putin is totally at fault even in his own eyes
I assume as that was going on POWs were not put in camps but shot on sight by both sides even if they surrendered

          1. Nigel

It’s not defection it’s literally in response to one of the things Cavan said.

Russia started the conflict in the breakaway regions, sending in gangsters, mercenatries, troopps, arms and money to keept it going. Ukraine are definitely impliacted in some war crimes there, but the Russian side is far worse, and Putin started it.

          2. Dinkum

Out and out deflection by Nigel as per anything he replies to and of course the reply facility is disabled

        2. K. Cavan

Perhaps, Nigel, you might make a selection for me, since, as usual, you’ve offered up a rebuttal that consists of you stating your disagreement & bugger-all else. You’ll have little problem, I’m sure, given the huge variety & number of wars the USA has engaged in.
They’re the World Heavyweight Champions of War or, at least, of attacking defenceless countries with the largest, most violent war machine ever to exist.

      2. anti bot

ah go Nordies prove this. Nobody else has. Do you believe invasion of a smaller country and killing of innocent people is justifiable?

        1. K. Cavan

There’s a whole big industry that says just that, Aunty Bot & you, my friend, are in its grip.
          “Defenders” in Ukraine,
          “Rebels” in Yemen.

        2. Dinkum

Nigel I remember the Mal Lai massacres and Abu Ghraib tortures add in guantamino bay
These were US atrocities not Russian and all sides are well capable of committing these acts
This is why Biden has a neck like a jockies bollocks to quote genocide
There are no rules in war and terrible savagery is the order of the day
I watched a documentary about the Mai Lai massacre and the troops that took part in it ended up mentally fked up
One stated the first I killed was difficult then it got easier as I assume blood lust took over and like a machine the slaughter commenced
Apparently to the US army the carrot did not work so the stick was implemented
In the absence of any media from the other side emerging because it’s banned all we have is one sides stories and this is where propaganda kicks in

      3. SOQ

Given that woke are now actively cheering on Nazis- I think that if the media told then to go jump off a bridge, a sizeable percentage would actually consider it.

The appearance by that Azov character was not by accident- expect more of it in due course.

        1. Dinkum

Imagine if Boris each year addressed our dail and sent a recorded video of a member of the para regiment on Bloody Sunday
The Greeks suffered terribly under nazi occupation to the point that when the crash happened a Greek man who survived the war set himself on fire outside the parliament of Greece when the troika moved in
I suppose many Irish would be outraged about anything regarding our history but quite unsympathetic about other nations
Thank god we are neutral as if we were not the Nigel brigade would be flying over there by the thousand fighting for Ukraine
Ever since the smoking gun in Iraq and the subsequent alleged suicide of doctor Kelly who had the balls to call it out I have been very wary of NATO UK and USA lies that are used so they can justify war .
And maybe 95% of these reports are total fabrication
Maybe our governments needs to fight price gouging that’s well under way as the news comes out about Ukraine and the media is pretty quiet also
One thing that is going to happen is our elustrious leaders will remove our neutrality as this war wages on and the Nigel’s of the worlds will not be outraged
Once it’s gone in years to come we will come to regret it
In another article our two idiots in Brussels Daly and Wallace complain about a nazi salute in the EU parliament and they are the billions
The whole of the EU especially our new Eastern European nations are getting more and more far right and we see Frances fate on the cards with lepens far right national front just holding on to see its first president in the making that is the dream of fascist Marie le pen

          1. K. Cavan

You seem to be under the illusion, Dinkum, that the Nigel brigade flying over to be used as cannon fodder by Nazis has a downside & I’m afraid myself & Mr Darwin would beg to differ.

        2. K. Cavan

About 8 prominent Nazis were handed senior posts in Zelensky’s Junta. Although their political wings lost almost all their electoral support, they were still hanging around with a lot of guns & Zelensky was told by his boss, Kolomoiskyy, that his battalions wanted some juice for all the work they did, killing Ukrainians for the CIA.

    2. Dinkum

Seems the Russians targeting Russian separatists in Russian held territory seems a bit strange ,but if any says that it’s fake
      Oh sorry Russian backed terrorists
The more dubious reporting the more unbelievable it gets

      1. K. Cavan

Russians giving food to people, then shooting them as they eat is a ludicrous idea, why not just shoot them? So the pictures I’ve seen of alleyways littered with dead bodies & Russian army rations seem to represent genuine atrocities. On the other hand, the Nazis have taken a hell of a battering, so the idea that they might be randomly murdering Russian-speakers makes sense, especially since Nazis & war crimes are a match made in Hell.

  2. SOQ

The level of theatre with this Zelenskyy clown is getting absurd. He is running around chastising European governments about not doing enough when he has not got the slightest intention of entering peace talks.

Instead, he’d rather do live streams on TikTok- seriously- it’s bizarre.

      1. K. Cavan

You should consider a visit to Specsavers, Kim. Zelensky looks like a rat. Still, if that’s what floats your boat, there’s an article from yesterday you might like.

          1. K. Cavan

Oh jungleman, you creepy creep. I can sense the anger in your puerile dribblings. You should be ashamed of yourself, no wonder you’re such a sabre-rattler, you beta.
Hmmm, are you a man, at all? I doubt it.

    1. Nigel

Why would he enter peace talks? He’s fighting for his life against a military invasion.

      1. SOQ

Oh I don’t know- to save lives maybe? But sure declaring Ukraine independent from the two major blocks is such an awful prospect now isn’t it?

        1. Nigel

How can he save lives by not fighting back against a military invasion? That makes no sense.

Putin’s made that kind of independence untenable. How can you be independent from two blocks, one of which invaded you, the other of which supported you when invaded?

      2. K. Cavan

Peace is better than war, Nigel. Luckily, despite warmongering fools like you, it usually breaks out, in the end.
The idea of Zelensky fighting is quite funny, I can see him doing Pacino with his little friend, when he’s on one of his coke benders. Still, the cocaine addiction is one of the reasons he appeals to Western politicians, most of them have been addicted to coke for years now, as witnessed by the state that the EU, UK & US are in.

        1. Nigel

Putin seems to think war is awesome, that might be the actual problem. Well done to the comedian cokehead making Putin’s war machine pay for invading his country.

          1. K. Cavan

Yeah, Nigel, Putin is a madman who thinks war is awesome, that’s about your intellectual level, simpleton takes based on the theory that the world is a Marvel movie with goodies & baddies.
Grow up, you silly man & put your comic-book view of the world away, you’re about as clued in as The Leader Of The Free World. He’s got senile dementia, what’s your excuse?

        2. Dinkum

Maybe he was on a Coke bender when he decided to take on Putin
High as a kite not realising the consequences for his people
How easy it is to just offer them up on the battlefield hoping you had all your ducks lined up just in case Putin invaded
          We now see the horror
So solution more weapons more misery and half hearted negotiations

      3. Gavin

Really? you’ve said some bizarre and also very accurate stuff, but that’s pretty jaw-dropping…why enter peace talks???/

        1. Nigel

Yes, why when the aggressor is still fighting on your land, destroying your cities and massacring your people? Why is it on him to go to peace talks? How many of those negotiated humanitarian corridors fell through or got shelled? There are no guarantees from Putin that can be accepted in good faith. None.

Don’t get me wrong, this is bad bad bad. But it’s the reality.

          1. K. Cavan

You’re being completely dishonest, Nigel & it’s glaringly obvious. The more people die, the more you’ll huff & puff, inflating your own self-righteousness & the better you’ll feel, you sadistic freak.
You’ll clearly sacrifice Ukrainians because you don’t give a damn about human life & you’ll react exactly the same when Europeans start to suffer from the inevitable food & fuel shortages, because they’re unlikely to impact a bourgeois reptile like you & you’re unlikely to care any more for those around you than you do for Ukrainians, once your own hide is safe.

        2. K. Cavan

It’s how the Russians do war. At the off, they told the Ukrainian Army to stay in their barracks if they wanted to keep the bloodshed to a minimum & to leave the Nazis to their fate.
After each push, they basically ask the opposition if they’d care to surrender, then batter them some more & ask again. At any stage of this Zelensky only has to say that Ukraine will not host American nuclear weapons on Russia’s borders & all the fighting ends. He probably wants that but he’s not the President, he’s just a sock puppet, with no power & a cocaine habit.

  3. Micko

I really feel that this lad needs a scar on his face or something to go along with the army T-Shirt.

Would give him much more of the John Connor vibe he’s going for. ;)

“If you can hear this… you ARE the resistance”

Den den den den den… den den den den den

    1. K. Cavan

The poor lad looks terrified of the goons the CIA has guarding him & I don’t think that’s cocaine-induced paranoia. He’s a virtual hostage at this point, just hoping he can spot the moment when they decide he’s more useful as a martyr & get out. I doubt if he’s gonna be allowed to enjoy his millions, when this is all over, the drug use makes him a liability. The CIA will pop a cap in him & make up some ridiculous nonsense about crack Russian assassins & the papers will scream for Putin’s blood.

      1. SOQ

Either that or he makes some sort of peace moves and Azov take him out. They have already been shooting Ukrainian soldiers for wanting to surrender, and using civilians as shields- so they are well capable of it.

  4. Kim The Cardassian

Zelensky is the new Jack Reacher. And he’s doing epic work. All the nay sayers are facists.

    1. Micko

      Well he’s 5’7. Just like Tom Cruise – so he’s a good match. ;P

Incidentally if ya like Jack Reacher – the Amazon Prime show is good. The first series is based on ‘The Killing Floor’

Big monster of a bloke playing him

Much more like Lee Child’s original character.

        1. Micko

          Pfft…

Legendary burn there Chet. “I question your taste in books Micko!!!”

Next you’d be telling me, my penmanship is atrocious. ;P

        2. The Millie Obnoxious™

What you read to relax at the end of the day is absolutely no indication of intellect.

    2. Mr. T

Jack Reacher – fictional movie star?
Yes, I suppose he is like that. An actor, acting as president and delivering oscar-worthy performances to various parliaments in the hope he can get some more big guns sent his way

      1. Nigel

A fictional cokehead holding out against the might of Putin’s Russia. Not bad for a fictional cokehead.

        1. Dinkum

          No glorification in this
You just showed your mentality Nigel
At awe at the fictional Coke head
I had a brother who was very fond of the marching powder
When on it he made the most stupid decisions
I remember Ben dune when he was an addict and the stupid decisions that even he admitted were absolutely stupid

          1. Nigel

Well, Dinkum, the subtext is that claiming he’s fictional and a cokehead is Russian propaganda, but given his resistance to the invasion, it makes the Russians look worse if it were true.

        2. K. Cavan

He’s a bit too far back behind the lines to be described as holding out against anything but the desire for another line, Nigel. What a ludicrous description.
You really are a boychild fantasist.

    3. K. Cavan

He is a fictional character, Kim, so you’ve accidentally said something quite correct. Well done, you.

  5. SOQ

Just a point on Bucha- most of the corpses were wearing white arm bands.

Depending on where you read, white arm bands mean either not involved in the war or, pro Russia. Either way, why would that particular group be singled out and killed by the Russians?

    1. K. Cavan

I’ve seen some horrible pictures of this war, SOQ. The Russians will be propagandized against but Nazis do have a bit of history when it comes to atrocities. I’ve seen Ukrainians that were herded into an alley & massacred for having Russian humanitarian food packages, I mean, they were probably starving & would have taken them even if they hated the Russians. They all had the white fabric on their left arm, also but they didn’t look like the neatly laid out bodies in Bucha, they were in a pile, with arms & legs sticking out everywhere & the packages of food that got them killed scattered about. A glimpse into Hell.
I visited Ouradour, in France, where they preserved a village that the SS wiped out, as a memorial to the villagers, a most eerie & disquieting experience.

    2. Fearganainm

You forgot to consider “Or tied up with white armbands that the Russian troops had been wearing but took off to do the tying up before killing them.”

        1. Fearganainm

Some of the corpses were pictured with hands bound with white cloth. If you quit pushing propaganda and actually viewed some of the evidence you’d perhaps be able to drop your sickening denial of Russian war crimes.

          1. SOQ

Most of the dead were wearing white arm bands, that has been widely reported- and the significance is as stated above. Just because that inconvenient fact doesn’t fit into your Guardian fed narrative, doesn’t make it any less true.

          2. Fearganainm

Day after day you ooze in here with your cut and pasted Russian Defence Ministry propaganda. Your twisted, binary thinking leads you to constantly accuse people who are sickened by the outcomes of Russia’s illegal attack on Ukraine of being ‘pro Nazi’. You are warped. The ‘othering’ of Ukranians, pumped out daily by Russian media, as justification for all the ongoing slaughter, is something that you’ve clearly bought in to.

When the Americans illegally attacked Iraq their troops were pumped up on the belief that it was some kind of payback for 9/11. The naming of detention camps after victims of 9/11 was no accident and the torture and murder that occurred in such camps was an inevitable consequence of the mindset that had been fostered among American military personnel.

The Nazi smears levelled at the entire Ukranian people are no different, and the war crimes of Russian soldiers are an equally inevitable consequence of the ‘othering’ that is being pushed day and daily by Russian propagandists. And by you.

The Ukranian people are perfectly entitled to resist Russian aggression. To believe this is not to be ‘pro Nazi’ in any way, shape or form.

            You are disgusting.

          3. Fearganainm

Away you and contemplate the death and destruction, the rapes and the mass injuries being inflicted on innocents by the forces that you’re trying and failing to absolve of responsibility, you sad and sorry drone.

          4. SOQ

The death and destruction, the rapes and the mass injuries are happening by both sides, and sometimes by the same side. You don’t get to decide what good genocide is and what is bad genocide- nobody’s life is worth more than others.

In this case the dead bodies were marked as being Russian supporters which means it is likely that they were killed by Ukrainians- that’s right, their own. But sure hasn’t been going on for the past eight years without a word anyways?

Or does that 21 000 not count because The Guardian never wrote about them?

          5. Nigel

‘The death and destruction, the rapes and the mass injuries are happening by both sides’

            No. No they’re not.

        2. Fearganainm

People are dying in Ukraine because Russia illegally attacked Ukraine.

People who have died in Ukraine over the previous eight years died because Russia was fomenting violence in Ukraine.

What part of ‘Russian interference in, and aggression towards Ukraine is causing death and destruction in Ukraine’ do you not understand?

You’re a mindless Russian propaganda merchant. You are spending your days repeating justifications for the murder of men, women and children. Along with that, your ‘othering’ of Ukrainians is closer to the untermensch propaganda of the Nazis. Not a good look, even if your blindness tells you that it is.

          1. Micko

“ repeating justifications for the murder of men, women and children”

Jesus Christ man will ya chill out.

It’s only a difference of opinion.

It’s not like anyone here is actually doing anything to help ffs.

          2. SOQ

You have no clue about war situations now do you? Because you have never been in one.

I have- I seen the dark side of human nature that war can bring at a very early age. I can say with utmost certainty that things are never black and white. The enemy hurt your side and your side hurt your side and at times it is hard to know who is hurting your side the most.

And things are more complicated within Ukraine where a minority who welcome the Russians are targeted by the Ukrainians. Then there is the Azov Nazis who will kill any Ukrainian who does not adhere to their hard line. Layered on top of all that is two propaganda machines which will spin any event to suit their agendas.

So feel free to apply your ignorant simplistic understanding of what happens in war situations all you want, but not preach to me about the darkness of war- I was reared in it.

          3. Fearganainm

“You have no clue about war situations now do you? Because you have never been in one.”

Incorrect. Yet again you imagine that you know somebody else’s life.

I’d say that you may have observed things but have never actually been a combatant in a conflict.

          4. SOQ

No but I have been an civilian on numerous occasions which is exactly the sort of people we are talking about here. You have no idea the complexities of those situations and the dangers they pose- from ALL sides.

I am most certain you have never been in such situations, or you wouldn’t be so quick to swallow the propaganda BS you are being spoon fed.

        3. Fearganainm

          ‘Only a difference of opinion’

You must have been dropped on your head when you struggled to land in the middle of the road.

          1. Fearganainm

            What do you know, Nostradamus?

You clearly have no interest in challenging lies about the Ukraine conflict so why bother butting in?

          2. Micko

What do I know about Ukraine?

            Absolutely nothing. Same as you.

“ You clearly have no interest in challenging lies”

Correct. Coz same as you, I know fu€* all about it.

          3. Fearganainm

This may hurt your feelings but I, and I’m sure many others here, don’t feel any need to confide in you about what I do or what I know.

            You’re irrelevant.

And just because you’re ignorant about certain things doesn’t mean that everyone else is. It’s arrogant and incorrect of you to think that other people are as ignorant as you are. Maybe it’s a technique that you use to feel better about not knowing stuff but built as it is on error it’s a rather pathetic and insecure position to take.

          4. Micko

“ doesn’t mean that everyone else is.”

No no… Please tell me more of your super informed opinion about the political situation in a country that you formed about 6 weeks ago.

            I’m sure it’ll be absolutely riveting…

            Bleedin tourist.

          5. Fearganainm

Good of you to drop by and share your revelations about your lack of education and similar lack of interest in current affairs, Micko. However, to be perfectly honest, I’m not sure why you bothered. I doubt that you are either.

          6. Micko

“ Fearganainm has just nailed you to the fupping wall there Micko”

Hey, what can I say Mr Mad. When yer right yer right. He nailed me good so he did.

I’m sure the war in Ukraine will be over by the morning…

Good work Ferg. Keep fighting the good fight.

          7. Micko

“ and similar lack of interest in current affairs”

Wait a sec. Current affairs? Fearg. WTF? That’s where you’re getting your “informed” opinion from?

Fupps sake. The way you bang on around here accusing others of all sorts, I at least thought you had a political degree, or spent time in Ukraine or Eastern Europe or had family there to explain the intricate history of the USSR.

FFS Even I’VE been to Ukraine AND Russia. (Class of ‘95 school trip baby)

But no, you get your opinion from the little screen in the corner of the room, just like the rest of us.

Well colour me unimpressed sir… unimpressed indeed

          8. Fearganainm

            @ Micko

“I at least thought you had a political degree”

I do, actually. And a bit more besides. And I have travelled extensively, although I won’t be posting an itinerary.

And this will really blow your mind – I don’t possess a TV.

            Poor Micko.

For all you know there may be people posting here who not only have primary degrees but who also went on to become university lecturers and have decades of experience lecturing not just here in Ireland but in other countries too.

            Here’s a clue. It isn’t you.

I guess your fallback position would be to deny the possibility of such a thing being true – that wouldn’t be your first blunder of the evening.

          10. Mad

For Micko, ignorance really is a virtue:
It’s like a comfort blanket; a squeaky toy; or more precisely, a baby’s dummy. Suck harder, Micko.

          11. Micko

            Heh..

I was referring to the little screen in your room. As in your computer.. anyway. I mean how else do you watch RTE player to stay informed? ;p

But Fearg, please tell me more about your illustrious career travelling the globe as an intellectual lecturer.

Cough…while also commenting on Broadsheet in yer spare time with people (unlike yourself apparently) who couldn’t POSSIBLY have a clue about the situation in Ukraine compared to yourself.

If your so qualified, why bother here? Don’t you already know you’re smarter then everyone here?

            What’s the challenge?

What a real waste of your superb intellect. What would your lecturers say?

“He had such potential and now he argues with morons on the internet non stop”

Did that degree come with a decoder ring too in that pack of cornflakes ye found it in?

          12. Fearganainm

            @ Micko

I’m not here to share my life story with you. Find a penpal if you’re looking for chit-chat. It’s been fun enough for me to have someone who professes his own ignorance making wild assumptions that everyone else here must be the same, whilst all the while I knew that he was hopelessly out of his depth. Next time you encounter someone you want to claim is as uninformed as you are just stop and think for a moment – you might be being toyed with by a published academic.

While things like truth and lies might be unimportant to you as you drift through your days and evenings consider that maybe, just maybe, there still exist a few people who think it a pity to see what could be, among other things, a useful information source being polluted by misinformation and outright propaganda.

Maybe you’ll struggle to understand that, you being you.

          13. Micko

But why waste your massive intellect arguing with the “little people”?

Ye know, ye really hung yourself with that “I’m a super qualified intellectual” bit. Heh

          14. Fearganainm

            OK, Micko.

I’ll put it in a way that you can understand.

            You were a fly.

            Your wings got pulled off.

            Now you’re a walk.

          15. Micko

Ah Jeasus now I’m sorry I kept ya with me buzzin

            Just saw the time there.

Papers are up, do you not have to pop off and share 47 stories on Saturday’s Newspaper, to continually provide information to prove your point of which you are obviously 100% correct and not unsure of at all.

          16. Mad

Micko just threw his dummy out.

Though in fairness it’s hard to differentiate who is the most ignorant and supercilious in this exchange. The guy who prides his manifest ignorance and assumes other commentators are as ill-informed as him yet bulls on regardless, or the arrogant, “academic” who assumes that because he had a few articles published once (that most people never read, let alone have even heard of), somehow this gives his reductio ad absurdum mallet style of spam commenting some inherent authority. There’s a pair of ye in it.

        4. Fearganainm

          @ SOQ

“I am most certain you have never been in such situations”

You’re doing it again. Being ‘almost certain’ and wrong at the same time. I’m fairly certain that I’ve seen more incidents, casualties and civilian and military responses to same than you have. And when I say ‘seen’ that’s as in ‘was there’.

The person I see uncritically posting propaganda with unstinting regularity is you.

          1. Mad

You don’t know jack, Fearg. You are doing the exact same thing now you accuse Micko and SoQ of, making ill-informed assumptions etc.
Read back over some of your own counsel to Micko and take it please.

        1. Fearganainm

          They were filmed wearing them.

          You are a fact-free, truth-free, evidence-free zone.

          1. Fearganainm

            https://observers.france24.com/en/europe/20220302-ukraine-kherson-flag-administration-building-russian-tanks

“…The tanks are emblazoned with the letter “Z” painted in white, a distinctive sign of Russian military equipment, used to distinguish Russian vehicles from Ukrainian ones since the start of the offensive in February. In front, soldiers wearing white armbands – another identifying mark used by Russian troops – challenge the man who continues to wave the flags…”

It’s a good thing that you enjoy being wrong – you’re never not at it.

  6. Ian - oG

World Cup time – everyone’s a football expert.

    Wimbledon – same.

    War?

    Sign…..

    1. K. Cavan

Ian, hitting previously undreamed-of levels of inanity with that one. Have you been holding that one back, for the big moment? I think your timing’s off.
So, having an opinion should be reserved for experts, Ian, you reckon?
      That’s your expert opinion?

  7. ZSmoke

the amount of idiots on here who would love to suck the farts out of Putin bottom region is mind boggling… Fascist russia is killing innocent people every day by the thousands.. and you want to beg for peace?
This alone tells me most of you haven’t got a slightest idea how eastern European mentality works.

    1. Gavin

What’s the alternative, genuinely interested to hear what you propose..more sanctions, which don’t seem to be working, more military aid that drags out war for many years? I don’t see many options beyond de-escalation or escalation.

      1. Nigel

I quite like those oligarch-targeting sanctions, I could definitely support the wider application of those, but withholding aid might just lead to Ukraine getting slaughtered, then subsumed.

        1. Gavin

Not sure about oligarch-targeted sanctions, I mean what’s the rationale behind them, theyre Russians & rich and didn’t condemn Putin, hardly a reason to cease your assets. Withholding aid is hard one, if it’s being asked for, thats Ukraine’s call, would be pretty cold-hearted to refuse aid based on the assumption it would prolong things

          1. Nigel

Nothing to do with condemning Putin. It’s billions stolen from the Russian people and sent abroad, often used for assorted political ends. It’s an anti -money laundering measure, targeting the beneficiaries of a warmongering gangster state.

    2. Ian - oG

There is a list of things that they haven’t the slightest idea about.

      It’s long.

        1. Ian - oG

The people bending over backwards to defend and explain the invasion of Ukraine.

No matter what you think of Zelensky or anything else, invading is wrong, full stop.

It was wrong when the yanks invaded Iraq, it is wrong Russia is invading Ukraine.

          1. Gavin

Yep agree, I don’t buy the whole valid arguments for starting a war….its a complete failure of politics when you get to that.

    3. Darrens

Cavan makes a good point I think about information as a tool in our society where any one who wants and many who don’t all that much get routinely briefed on the current issue which domintes or otherwise feeds into the establishing of a prevailing narrative. It’s not that this makes every one an expert. It does mean that familiarity allows some level of free exchange regards issues on which most voicing an opinion have not any lived experience of. It is dispiriting to read support in this case for an army who has attacked people for two months etc but there is a bigger theme about how the information we have access to poses a risk if fear is the main driver behind how it is engaged with. And much of it is scary and often delivered with fear as the desired effect. No one really believes Russian justifications for killing their own kind but somehow the very fact that it is occuring is significant enough to require that something about it must be true and so reasonable. Otherwise it is only chaos which determines our fate and that’s a hard future to save up for. Being able to access information will always have a consequence just as denying access will too.

    4. K. Cavan

But you do, Z? The fact that you even think that there’s such a thing as “an Eastern European mentality” says it all, the rest of your comment is unverifiable speculation. If “begging” for peace needed to be done, a man, a real leader would do that, if it saves lives but Zelensky’s being controlled by the CIA & the likes of Victoria “Fcuk The EU” Nuland & Ukrainians dying is as fine by Uncle Sam, as Europeans starving & freezing.
Watch this space, nothing short of the overthrow of the current bunch of chancers in Brussels can save Europe, now.
The Lunatics have taken over the asylum.

    1. Fearganainm

“Kremlin affiliated media first proudly reported the Kramatorsk massacre, claiming their missile hit an ammunition train that arrived yesterday evening. After the appearance of civilian casualties, they started blaming Ukraine. Same story as with MH17 in 2014.”

      https://twitter.com/JulianRoepcke/status/1512365048018132997

“Note that they also initially showed the Tochka-U with their claim, minutes before claiming Russian led forces don’t use these SS-21 ballistic missiles.”

          1. K. Cavan

No, they weren’t. The Russians are to blame as, within the USSR, they gave those missiles to Ukraine. Either way, even if the Ukrainians did kill a load of Russians with that missile, it was clearly an accident, they’ve been doing that from the start, hitting their own buildings with their own missiles, not on purpose, either.
The vast majority in the part of Ukraine where forces are engaged are Russians, who voted repeatedly for pro-Russian governments, only to see their decision overturned by America’s repeated coups.
