‘Willing To Use Emergency Planning Powers’

at

Housing Minister Darragh O’Brien

This morning.

Via RTÉ News:

Housing Ministersaid that during a meeting with industry stakeholders yesterday, all options available to house refugees were discussed.

There has been a trawl of vacant buildings that are available, he said, adding that about 500 of these were identified by local authorities.

“It’s most efficient to use the existing stuff that we have there,” Mr O’Brien added.

There are emergency procurement procedures that will be used to “get the work done”, he said, but with some buildings it will take months to complete.

Everything is an emergency with these feckers…

You’d nearly think ’emergency’ was the strategy…

Anyone renting out their holiday homes to refugees must realise these homes could be unavailable for personal use for possibly years
This crises has happened not because of a war but the years of not building social housing for our own people
Meanwhile what are they doing to accommodate whole families of Irish people our own people that are one step from living on the streets
The thought of our international image exposed for the whole world to see is going to embarrass the hell out of leo mehole and the gang of failed leaders
Finally all our chickens coming home to roost and thank god now rather than who runs this place after the shit hits the fan

    5th March:
THE IRISH GOVERNMENT will use emergency planning powers to provide accommodation for people fleeing Ukraine, according to junior minister Damien English.

    10th March:
Modular homes for Ukrainian refugees will be built on State land ‘outside of the normal planning process’, Eamon Ryan says

    12th April:
He said the “first focus” is on existing buildings but he is also willing to use emergency planning powers

plus ça change, plus c’est la même chose

    One obvious question.
Why would a holiday home owner foregoe their lucrative summer holiday season to house Ukrainian refugees on an open-ended basis, presuming the Government won’t be willing to stump up a grand a week in payments ?
And the idea that there are hundreds of holiday homes not already booked up weeks and months in advance by tourists from home and abroad is just laughable.
    Desperation setting in.
It was always going to end in tears.

The government is caught between a rock and a hard place. The EU waved the high hand and granted all Ukrainians the same rights as EU citizens, which means they can go where they want within- and are entitled to the same social welfare or work rights as those from within.

I think it is very unfair on those already here who have been seeking asylum.

There’s certainly a lot to be said for having control over your own borders …

Many of those “chancers” are also escaping war in several African states, Somalia, Sudan, N. Mali. Lybia is still having it’s own un-civil war. The list is longer. Wanting to get youself & your family away from harm is a natural thing to do. There’s more than enough to go around if our economies weren’t so catastrophically mismanaged for the benefit of the few. I’d say there’ll be a few “chancers” coming from Ukrane as well. As before, a better life for ones loved ones is understandable. If I was in any of their shoes I would. By the way it’s the government and mega corps that are the enemy not poor people looking for a better life.

        1. Janet, dreams of an alternate universe

well said Duncan, the real chancers are the immoral fupps with the lucrative contracts to care for these people that they use as almost all profit while they house and feed people like dogs

          1. K. Cavan

Well, Janet, where there are people to exploit, which is both the illegal immigrants & the people forced to share their own country with them, there will be those who exploit.
The solution is obvious, enforce the existing laws & end the exploitation. You cannot litter the place with carrion, then blame vultures for feasting on it.

        2. K. Cavan

Your big “IF” in the middle there gives the lie to the entirety of your statement, Duncan. The economy never has nor never will be run for any other than the few, so therefore you agree that there is NOT enough to go ’round & that Open Borders are detrimental to citizens of countries who’s governments violate their own laws, as well as the EU laws, by facilitating & encouraging illegal immigration, correct?
By the way, there are laws governing refugees from war-zones, people who come here from such places, via multiple other countries, are not entitled to be regarded as refugees, such status exists only in the first safe country they arrive in, they are illegal economic immigrants.
Your post is a meaningless Virtue Signal that admits as much. You blame the Corporate World for the exploitative nature of our economies, while parroting their ideology, which is designed to provide them with more immigrants to exploit, while depressing wages so they can exploit the natives, at the same time.
What appalling spoofery you present, what a morally bankrupt & idiotic world view you have.

      2. SOQ

And no ‘chancers’ coming from Ukraine then? One of the most corrupt countries in the world? And that is not even thinking about the Azov Nazis, which are bound to infest at some stage.

But they are white Europeans- so everything is grand.

          …just their kids and unborn.
“After consultation with the government and acting on the authority of the president, I called today on the German minister, Herr Eduard Hempel, at the Legation in Northumberland Road, and on behalf of the president expressed condolence on the death of the Fuehrer and Chancellor of the German Reich.”

Funny how the govt can all of a sudden build homes now and fix up old stock of homes…

We couldn’t do it for our own destitute, but when the neighbours are watching, it’s all… “oh, we can do that”.

Glad it’s being done, but it shows the govt needs a good cattle prodding to get anything done.

    1. K. Cavan

Exactly, Clampers but you’ve only touched on the main, salient point. Our politicians are eager to please their Globalist Oligarch Overlords but do not give a damn how their own electorate are treated or regard them. Varadker has stated on the record that he regards himself as an “internationalist”, that statement should chill us to the bone, when you parse it’s actual meaning.
The idea that the Irish people trusted these scumbags when they were told that there was a Deadly Plague & that toxic experimental drugs were their only chance of survival still astonishes me.
All these criminals in the government will retire with fat pensions & offers of corporate sinecures & the only viable opposition, Sinn Fein, were put on the Soros/Gates payroll, as soon as they emerged as contenders & are already thoroughly corrupted.

EU quotes for accepting the refugees make the gobpoos dance. This is why they are trying to look busy.
    Simple as.
Local homelessness and housing issues do not reflect on their election votes, so they don’t give a poo about that.
    Simple as.
It seems that because of class society, and messed up welfare system, older people are mortally affraid of anything that will bring the price of their houses down. And that’s why they vote FFGG.
    Simple as.
Witness the real-world implementation of self-feeding closed-loop gobshite ecosystem at work.

Hope that the landing will be on the softer side this time.

    1. K. Cavan

If you are an older person, subject to the exploitative system that Harney’s Sick Experiment blandly labels the Fair Deal, you are right to fear the devaluation of your home, lest it not cover your costs as you reach your latter years & you are thrown to the wolves that run some of the hell-hole Care Homes our bourgeoisie like to invest in.
