Households are expected to be paid up to €400 a month to help with the costs of housing Ukrainian refugees, under plans being discussed by Governmenthttps://t.co/vBkrxgTI9j

This morning.
Via RTÉ News:
The proposed payment, which could be announced as early as next week, would aim to cover costs such as extra utilities bills, associated with housing those fleeing the war.
It would also act as an incentive to boost the number of accommodation places available for the number of refugees arriving in Ireland.
Yesterday, Minister for Justice Helen McEntee said that there will be no cap to the number of refugees Ireland accepts, even as the Government admits it is facing a struggle to house arriving Ukrainians.

Yesterday, a Minister For Justice in a European western democratic country said this 👇

well this is going to bring all the nicest most genuine people out of the woodwork
McEntee looking for the good wholesome sound-bites to carry her into another election.
One of the satire sites claimed she had taken back her own offer of accommodation as the spare room was stacked high with Tayto boxes.
Tee hee hee
She should be known as McEmptee because there doesn’t seem to be a whole lot rattling around in her head.
This is an utterly stupid idea – yes it is great that we should help refugees but to offer to do so without any sort of plan or someone to oversee it or worse, TAKE RESPONSIBILITY is nearly as bad as doing too little.
ask paschal will he want to tax this stipend?
This seems ill-judged. As another poster above said, there’s an awful bang of election gimmick off this latest move.
And still noone in charge of this crisis.
who is this ‘noone’ fella? he seems to be in charge of almost everything but you never see a picture of him..
he’s just a big floating arse in the sky
The average wage in Ukraine is $213 a month
I can just imagine the problems that will arrive with them as I was over in the Ukraine a few years ago and outside Kiev is a different world
We could be heading towards a major recession for the whole world. There are already serious symptoms pointing to this. Of course we need to help with the refugees but we need to be realistic. There is no cap on the number of refugees? We do have a limit whatever the exact number is I do not know. If/when Ireland is hit with a major economic recession and it is hitting the country really bad… we better not start blaming the Ukrainians. Always the marginalized get scape-goated first in times of economic crisis rather then the main culprits. If we think that the supply chain/and war is the cause of inflation and not the over creation of money out of thin air that has devalued the buying power of households then we need to wake up. 400 euro will not be enough for what is coming.
True. Scapegoating always occurs when there is competition for scarce resources.
floodgates.
slippery slope.
Very true. The conflict in Ukraine is being used as the excuse for inflation and energy prices rising. Both had commenced in earnest before the invasion. State expenditure and borrowing ballooned during the pandemic and Ireland now holds over a quarter of a trillion in debt. Central Bank interest rates are rising making borrowings more expensive. Fuel price rises feed into almost every aspect of the economy and increase costs. Inflation depreciates the value of your savings sitting in your bank account. Try invest those savings, you do so in a market with inflated and rising prices (so paying more for less)
The wealth is being squeezed from every direction. We will be moving to Central Bank Digital Currencies before long, but first the deliberate collapse of existing systems continues. Digital currency with a Digital ID. All within the decade. Absolute control over one’s economic interaction with society.
CBDC’s is my overwhelming biggest fear. It gives the ability of frightening control. They say it would never be used in this way but the mere fact is that the ability is there. If you look at the British government wording around it – a programmable CBDC – programmable gives you access to the behavior of the currency and how it is spent. That is, you can only buy this, you can only buy that… you can only buy this quantity. You disagree with the government then sorry you do not have access to your cash with the click of the mouse. A decentralized digital currency rather then centralized is a different story and a model that would offer the attributes that I believe the average citizen would agree too but sadly I don’t think we will ever get the option and this will be ushered in E’Matty has stated.
Ematty eye watering and for a population of five million where near on half revenue raised goes on social welfare payments to many including child benefits and pensions
Wait until the level playing field on corporation tax kicks in and Ireland no longer is a corporation tax Mecca where you use Ireland to put through your who worlds earnings like before
When corporation tax holds your economy together you are in trouble
And when apple realise the corporation tax is the same all over Europe then they look at the cost of doing business in Ireland and they will move
I see a massive crash ahead and advise Sinn Fein to just stay in opposition and ensure this shower are left to deal with the problems they created
The EU have instructed Ireland to take so many 200 thousand for a country with just 5 million total population
On the other hand france is taking half of that with a far higher population
This is going to end in tears and humiliation for our reputation
We do not have the accommodation to house our own and government are pitting Irish against Ukrainian refugee for health a roof over their head and services like education language and counselling
And frankly the government deserve the chickens that are coming home to roost
Basically, the political elites are deliberately driving the car off a cliff, convinced that, in mid-air, The Great Reset will magically turn it into a plane & both driver & passengers (us) will soar Back to the Future.
I forgot to mention that the car is a DeLorean, converted to hybrid, at huge expense, by a crack team of seven thousand civil servants who passed the Leaving Cert in the mid-seventies.
Well, it’s better than actually trying to solve problems.
At this stage, it’s best to just look after yourself & your loved ones, while ekeing out a few laughs at the expense of the demented, who watched the Fake Pandemic & now The Putinmania & gibbered about Conspiracy Theories. Our governments used to actually harumph about absenteeism damaging productivity, now they’re printing money like there’s no tomorrow.
Perhaps they know something we don’t?
‘Course not, that’s a Conspiracy Theory.
“Don’t blame it on the sunshine,
Don’t blame it on the moonlight
Don’t blame it on the good times,
Blame it on the Putin”
Yes the great reset and that needs a world war to cull the population a few nukes and half the population gone then the elite can make fortunes rebuilding the planet
Meanwhile our government want our neutrality gone and I bet of course come a war conscription will be introduced
Governments (with a few honourable exceptions) care not a jot about the citizens. The peasants are revolting. Let’s hope that they/we will before it’s not longer possible. Boiling frogs just f-off and die.
You the stupid paddy´s, will be the first country to be told that you are be the first volunteers to give up your private property to the refugees. Well done
“You the stupid paddy´s” isn’t really the best way to commence what you imagine to be a cutting insult about intelligence.
Under’stood?
OK then , “you the clever Paddy´s”
Understand
You had one job and you messed it up. Instead of being regarded as some kind of prescient, albeit equally ignored, Cassandra type figure you’ll be forever remembered as an apostrophe abuser.
Thanks Karen
OK, I was going to let this pass but it would be remiss of me not to draw attention to your position vis-à-vis (and cavalier disregard for), the pluralization of nouns.
How do you expect to develop your oratorical skills when your basic literacy is so weak?
Karen, You sound like a Sun reader. Maybe soon you could move along and read the Star. Ireland is being sold down the river by George Soros and the corrupt government. Why do you not stand up for your country? Maybe you could learn Ukrainian.
I knew that you were no Seán an Díomais but now I see that you’re just an amadán.
Don’t worry about it, you’ll never amount to anything.
