From top: Lunch served at a Direct Provision centre in Monaghan in 2020 prepared by Aramark

This afternoon.

Via RTÉ News:

Catering group Aramark has been given the contract for providing meals for refugees from Ukraine without going through the regular procurement process.

Minister for Children Roderic O’Gorman said the Government had to move quickly and added “we have not be able to use the traditional procurement processes”.

We have had to move quickly, that is why 16,000 are being fed,” he said.

People Before Profit TD Richard Boyd Barrett said: “Aramark, you will know, have been a very controversial company criticised for the poor quality of their catering in US prisons, for the poor quality of some of the catering they provide for the people in Direct Provision.”

O’Gorman tells us that they just had to give the contract to a US company.
Prior to this, we were told that we’d have to use US fracked gas instead of Russian gas.
It’s almost as though the US has a plan to sell its services on the back of the Ukraine war.

I actually worked in my darkest days for aramark as a relief chef
One was in James connolly memorial hospital and then a stint in Canada house
      It was depressing and soulless
But I have just seen it all
Red plum tomato’s and a couple of mass produced bread rolls
      It’s a disgrace

…fair play to Sarah…but I think the Ambassador gave as good as he got…in his second language…

Actually the addition of some prawns and lobster or even a few clams with garlic, olive oil and linguini would turn that into quite a tasty vongole. I’d even throw in some charity grated parmesan.
Surely those chaps in Direct Provision have enough time on their hands to do some foraging ? It sure beats sitting on their backsides watching Homes Under The Hammer.

Tomato soup and a couple of roll? I had a pack of lidl crisps and a couple of biccies for lunch.

I think the whole point is that the prawns, clams and lobster are all missing, as are the linguini and condiments.

is the issue that the people in DP are being fed for free? or that Aramark are not providing the service that they are being paid to?

Yes well I predicted the dodgy dealings would start as soon as the procurement rules were shelved- and here we are, right off the bat.

funny it’s shown on a plate, they usually slop the food into a plastic bag, the stuff given to children is unforgivable

Aren’t these photos known to be misrepresentations of the truth? Much like the majority of the bogus asylum seekers that we have wasted time and resources on. Now hampering our efforts to help genuine refugees.
