Turtles often travel in circuitous routes when migrating short distances, experts say

Some boffins who wanted to know
How sea turtles navigate, so
They did a big study
And haven’t a bloody
Clue how they choose where to go

i wouldn’t be quick to dismiss animal intelligence; for example ants can count – they measure distance by counting their steps. i wouldn’t be surprised if turtles were just looking for something they dropped or were composing poetry or somesuch.
