Yikes.

Check out this dump. €850 a month for this gateway to hell. Wouldn’t put a dog in there. Nerve of whoever is looking to exploit desperate renters by describing it as a …

Depressing.
I had ‘a sleepover’ in one of these places on NCR before…depressing is an understatement.
Oh god, so did I…….
*looks side-to-side awkwardly*
Yep, had a bit of a purple patch when I was living there… 2 of many… how you been keeping, babe?
(I don’t know if it’s fair to say “depressing”, boj… I think the intensity of things got to you, that’s all)
I hear your flat had a revolving door BB :)
What can I say, Bertie!? I’m a very generous lover.
*glances over at Mildred…yep, she’s looking*
At least let her finish her Curly Wurly first.
When you need to use a shared ‘en suite’ in one of these places, depressing is the perfect word, I can assure you! Especially when you bump into another tenant…totes awks!
Oh no… I’ve just had a flashback of a lime green armitage shanks bathroom with decorative mold….deep deep shudder.
still cross i never called, right?
I’d tell you lot to get a room, only obviously nobody can afford rooms any more, so get, I don’t know, a matchbox?
Only the best for me :P
I never forget a good Hoop ;-P
No need for a dodgy electric heater that night……
Most people on the average wage wouldn’t be able to afford much more than that. So if you are on the average wage, ie. in the majority….. You are destined to live in a dump.
Only if you’ve got no mates though; less than twice that amount would get you a very nice 2 or 3 bed house in a nice enough area within easy public transport or cycling distance to town.
I have a wife. Enjoy living with your friends. Do you have a race car for a bed?
I had a shower in there once and the steam spelled out ‘Kill Me’ on the shower door from the previous owner.
More door
That heater in the kitchen is one of those awful ones with a nasty arid dry heat that chokes you, if it works at all. So no central heating in that kip either. Horrible.
Not merely depressing – but also an obvious and blatant fire hazard by the manner the wardrobe is half blocking the exit.
Sure never mind, it’s not as if there’s any proper enforcement in the north inner city –

https://www.rte.ie/news/2017/0221/854178-eight-people-rescued-from-burning-building-in-dubl/
I’m sure the market will sort all that out. Sure hasn’t it been a great success for FA of us for a while now?
So Mr Dude, you have evidence of breaches of fire safety in the 2 links you’ve given? If so, please bring them to the attention of DFB, if not please fo!
Hi Ollie,
Unless it has been altered, the public record should show that there were repeated referrals to the civic authorities regarding those particular buildings.
That serious concerns were raised regarding the building and that it had been referred to the authorities was reported in national media in 2010 – yet nothing effectively done by the authorities:
http://www.independent.ie/irish-news/developer-denies-damaging-historic-mountjoy-houses-26680064.html
The only difference that I can see between 2006 and 2017 is that in 2006 it was estimated that there was circa 3 dozen people in the 3 houses – yet by 2017, following repeated requests for enforcement and a precedent of a fire, the reports indicate 150 persons estimated to be present.
Regrettably there are also presently other numerous cases apparent, particularly in the north inner city, where reference has been made – yet no action taken. There’s increasingly plenty of evidence of bunk beds stacked throughout buildings agains front windows where change of the buildings’ use has occurred – and no enforcement occurs. To that end, I invite anyone to either have a walk in that part of the city and look up – or alternatively, the property websites also provide ample evidence regarding the matter – and that such standards are now so acceptable as there is no proper enforcement, that such adverts are symptomatic of how such operators understand that they can effectively act with impunity.
In the old days, such blatant issues would have been major headlines throughout the newspapers. Alas, that could possibly bad for business though these days, given that the amount of ‘newspaper’ business devoted to property porn – and the potentially related interests. Sure not to worry, it’s only immigrants or the economically struggling that are primarily affected; Stardust anyone?
I hope the above helps clarify the matter. I also hope if you don’t mind if I decline your apparently crude euphemism at the end – but instead advise for future reference that ad hominem attacks rarely advance or improve a debate.
Two pictures of the same room, one with a microwave but no heater and one with a heater but no microwave. S’pose if you want’ both it’ll €950 per month.
€850 a month is a lot of money. There’s no way someone who can afford to pay that kind of rent would be up for living in a dump like that. No doubt there’ll be a couple of desperate foreign students sharing that manky single bed by the end of the week. How depressing.
This is what we get electing a party of landlords..
You mean the Vested Interests Party?
How does the “1 in 5 TDs are landlords” compare to the rest of the population?
There are 175,250 registered landlords (see PRTB);
There are ~3 million adults (age 25+) in Ireland, ~1.3 million are single, and there are 850,000 married couples. (see CSO)
That’s about 2.2 million entities – I’m treating a couple as a single entity because if a TD’s spouse is a landlord they are deemed a landlord too.
175,000 landlords in 2,200,000 people, or 1 in 13 people (single person or married couple over 25) are landlord.
So we’re really a nation of landlords.
That’s lovely..a party of landlords giving tax breaks and incentives to their fellow landlords within the general population.
Renters far out number landlords of course, which will have repercussions in elections..ergo you have measly attempts at rent controls.. to be seen to do something.
So what link are you people looking at,because the daft link in no way shows this place as Hell hole most of you describe it as. Its cheap for current rates, still a fupping disgrace I agree, but poo hole, gate way to hell not close. You lot must have grew up palaces.
Cheap for current rates?! It shouldn’t be on the market at all.
I lived in a bedsit, even smaller but still similar to that for three months while away working. It was a just a place to rest the head and was costing just 10% of my salary. The flat above is demanding a rent higher than many could afford. Dublin salaries are not reflective of Dublin rents – this is what needs to change. Even someone on a Manager’s salary and running a car would be financially forced to call this place home.
spot the owner ?
I grew up in a place where the door could open freely without being a death trap, blocked by a wardrobe with no drawers that looks like it was saved from a skip.
So those two things make this a hell hole.
Would you live there? It looks like the kind of place that hasn’t been updated since it was a bedsit in 1985
How many of these places exist?
How many of these have been rewired correctly.
There could be 1 or 2 of those Triton showers per floor, and with normal wiring in a house, this would not be large enough to handle the large amount of current that these appliances draw. Add in a couple of those heaters fridge and cooker being on, and your cables will heat up fast, sitting behind plasterboard, or wooden skirting board.
Surely the PRTB would be aware of such issues?
PRTB aren’t responsible – it’s the local councils.
PRTB do, however, pay some of the registration fees to the councils to check standards.
it’s a wet dream for our landlord loving TD’s
+1
A Demonstration is required.
This rental fiasco has been going on for years
Rents Rise wages don’t
Laissez faire take it or leave it attitude by LL’s ( no standards other than not a bedsit)
Thousands flocking to the cities for jobs.
Office space cant be built quick enough yet nowhere to live
Government does nothing
Anyone for a march on Leinster House?
Yes!
Is that a washinf machine where the oven should be?
The worst accommodation has to be the ones where they are renting out one half of a double bed. This place here is like Versailles compared to that.
I agree
How is that even legal
dont forget, you can email the advertiser. whenever i see these i give them a load of cr@p and tell em theyre ruining it for everyone in the long run
Do you windmill in and let your fists do the talking?
/meta
I work in real estate in Paris, you’d get a better place here at that, not knocking Dublin but it ain’t Paris so why is it more pricey ? and I wouldn’t be able to sleep at night if that was on my books. Yes it’s a hell hole. Isn’t there a fixed price per m2 applicable in Dublin and if not why not ?
It’s probably not BER exempt either
Is it actually a listed building? Does anyone know the address?
