A Limerick A Day

Trinity College is seeking a wine distributor to supply it with “at least 8,466 bottles at a total estimated cost of €170,000 over a two-year period”.

The Trinity Fellows incline
To the very best things when they dine
And an evening of food
Must always include
Some bottles of rather nice wine

It’s a grand price for one in a shop but at wholesale it’s ridiculous. They’d want to be drinking fancy vintages for 8,466 bottles of twenty-euro wine…

Exactly. You’d rarely pay more than €20 for a white, even in a regular shop. So €20 wholesale for a white is completely ricockulous. Must be all Amarone and, erm, what’s that overpriced NZ white? Cloudy Bay.

Overly taxed and dutied to be fair. The price of wine in Ireland is heavily skewed by taxes and duties. Cloudy Bay is a stonker of a white.

Clickbait type story really to give the impression that Trinners is shelling out money on wine. But the story states they host private events then they bill the client for the wine. Might as well do a story “Red Cow Hotel spends €80,000 per year on wine for weddings”.
