Hugo’s tweet sums it up. Geoghegan is just a poor candidate and Kate O’Connell, like her or loathe her, is far better and remains popular in her D6 base. If Kate’s supporters turn out for Ivana and not Geoghegan, game over. Panic has certainly set in. Still, Geoghegan is in with a good shout – just because it is DBS.
To be fair Kate O’Connell is bigger threat to Leo than Labour. If his time ends before he’s ready to go it won’t be because of the Labour party.

O’Connell would have taken the seat. Geoghegan’s membership of Renua (and subsequent damascene conversion to being loudly pro-choice, coincidentally after Dublin Bay South voted 80%~ in favour of repeal…) has done him no favours in the constituency.
Add on his tone deaf attempts claiming to be part of the generation suffering from the housing crisis, despite his privileged background (800k house paid for by his parents etc) driving away even more young voters and you have a situation where FG are about to lose their only seat in the most FG friendly constituency in the country.
Lol. It’s insane. You can disparage Fine Gael and flounce off with Lucinda and her husband (whatever his name is) to her fire and brimstone Renua outfit and then not only be welcomed back to Fine Gael but selected as a candidate in a premier constituency. He’s lucky it wasn’t the Shinners he left – they wouldn’t have been so kind. Of course, unlike Kate, Geoghegan did not make the cardinal sin of being a woman unafraid to voice an opinion.
You get the feeling that FG feel they could get a scarecrow elected in this constituency – is it theirs by right or are they taking things for granted ?
Many of the voters in this constituency couldn’t give a fiddlers who Geoghegan is, what he has done before or whether he goes around dropping balls of faeces from his trouser legs, he is a FG, that will be enough for most of them, disgusting as it is.
In a nutshell.
He’s moved out to 2/1 with Ivana seat at 2/5. Breakast at the Geoghan’s is toast with a side of foie gras to help it go down that bit easier.
