Facebook founder Mark Zuckerberg’s company rebrand has caused a backlash
After copping a whole lot of blame
Mark thought Facebook required a new name
A new start! But this act
Cannot hide the fact
They’ll still profit from lies just the same

ha !
Can’t see this taking off anytime soon. AR (augmented reality whereby digital overalys reality via the use of some sort of headset, possibly glasses like the old Google glass device) will I think but this idea of ‘living’ in a virtual world? Can’t see it at this time.
I tested their example ‘create your own shopping street’ ‘VR’ experience to see what it’s like. Crap.
Why go to all that trouble clicking up and down a virtual street to buy stuff when you can just access it the old, reliable way?
Mark Zuckerberg showing yet again how much he does not understand about the human race on display here, nothing more.
Should be called the MehVerse.
he’d have to be human first
I blame Geppetto myself.
He’s definitely gotten worse in the whole “pretending to be human” dept.
Here’s an interview with him from 2004, and he’s nowhere near as bad as he is now.
https://youtu.be/cUNX3azkZyk
I wonder if he’s gotten worse because everyone slags him over it and now it’s a huge deal in his head.
…yeah, he started out as Pal 9000 and now he’s morphed into…, Colossus: The Forbin Project.
He doesn’t even seem too excited about it himself.
Bit of a damp squib, stupid sort of name, daft looking saggy infinity loop icon, same auld rubbish.
I’ve no interest in any VR 3D chicanery – give me tactile, sense-full reality any day of the week.
Same here. I’m an RR (real reality) kind of person myself. Outside in the sunshine (well rain more likely), cold beer in my hand and so on.
A friend whose kids finally moved out about 3 years ago had a bit of a minor mid life crisis and bought a fairly high end VR headset and an actual go kart that connects to your PC/Playstation etc. and has rumble features, full gear box and so on. Invited me over for a few beers to test it out.
Great craic for all of about 30 minutes then it was just boring. I can’t remember how much the entire setup costs but the holiday you could have gotten for it would have been much preferable.
Thanks for the reminder – i always maintained i’d plan my own mid-life crisis.
I must depart now for the lair where i can consider the best way of the scheme of things.
No VR headset or carts – if i’m going to motor let’s start with a Ford Capri and work from there.
“Mark Zuckerberg showing yet again how much he does not understand about the human race on display here”. Whilst I agree, it does appear that is the direction they are taking us. They’re calling it the Post-human age, or transhuman, with Virtual Reality being the defining element.
The IT age is over, and the BIO/NANO age has now begun, according to Dennis M. Bushnell, chief scientist at NASA, in a presentation from 2011.
He details the Technological Ages of Mankind, which he lists as follows:
Hunter/killer groups million BC-10kBC
Agriculture 10k BC – 1800 AD
Industrial 1800 – 1950
IT 1950 – 2020
Bio/NANO 2020 – ? (By pure coincidence of course, the same year the pandemic arrived, biosecurity became the big thing, and they try get these new experimental vaccines into the entire population of the Western world, even if at no personal risk from the virus)
Virtual – ?-? (He doesn’t give dates for the Virtual Age but given the emergence of META and other commercial ventures, one would be forgiven for thinking it’s very soon.)
Here’s the Bushnell presentation. Very interesting, albeit disturbing. Worth a watch for any one interested in where we’re going.
