Surging Covid rates in some of Europe’s central and eastern states are demonstrating a worrying correlation between vaccine scepticism and populist politics.
The phenomenon is marked in the German-speaking states of Austria, Germany – particularly those parts which emerged from East Germany – and Switzerland, currently top of the European league of the unvaccinated.
All three are seeing surging Covid rates. More than 55 million Germans are fully vaccinated, but 22 per cent of adults remain unvaccinated, three times Irish levels.
And polls show a strong correlation between refusal to vaccinate and support for far-right parties like Alternativ für Deutschland and Austria’s Freedom Party….

First they turned you into weak overly sensitive snow flakes incapable of facing anything challenging, then they created an environment of fear, now they control you completely as you are so frightened of a moderate virus you will give up every right and freedom that has been gained over centuries through the sacrifice of millions. Established power didn’t give us these rights and freedoms. It has always been the opposing force to these freedom movements. …in fairness, the far right conspiriloons, ratlickers and various flavours of fascists have not received the credit they are due for ensuring such a high uptake of the vaccine…although they are tiny in number they have been consistent in ensuring solidarity and resolve among the vast majority of us striving to stay safe and do what we believe is the right thing…

92% of over 22s vaccinated
Bulgaria Number of cases per 100,000 population = 409

But, the vaccines are really effective against transmission say our Covid zealots.
None has ever said the vaccine stops transmission except the anti-vax swivel eyed loons.
And where do I say “stop transmission”. The claim is that vaccines are so effective at reducing transmission that the unvaccinated and vaccinated are two distinctly different groups in terms of transmission risk. It’s complete BS without foundation. The level of vaccination in a population does not correlate to the incidence rate at all, therefore any claims of vaccines playing any significant role in preventing transmission is completely bogus. The entire basis for the vaccine passports is completely bogus and has zero scientific basis. In fact, it is in denial of the known science on transmission. Antigen testing for all would be far more effective at reducing transmission than the vaccine certs which have no evidence underpinning their use to do so. Get rid of passes and introduce population wide regular antigen testing.
Who has claimed that? From day one it’s been made clear that the vaccines do not stop transmission. At best they reduce the time that you can pass it on. The vaccines stop the the vast majority of people who do not have underlying health conditions ending up in hospital. Nothing more. So if you have chosen to be unvaccinated it’s very much a case of caveat emptor.
Ireland had ZERO covid cases in 2018 and ZERO vaccines! Therefore the vaccines are useless.
