RTÉ exit polls show that Independent and other candidates appear to have won the highest percentage of the vote in yesterday’s local elections, while Sinn Féin appears to be on course to win an MEP seat in Dublin.

A friend of mine spotted that Paul Murphy is being a bit cheeky. He’s sharing an Irish Times article about him on his Facebook, but has edited the headline to make it seem like it’s suggesting that he’s got a chance in the election.

The real headline is (and was, judging by the URL) “Socialist MEP appeals for support for third Dublin seat”. Yet when he shared it on Facebook, he edited the Irish Times article to say “Murphy best placed to take third seat from Labour & FF”. The article and polls suggest no such thing. Harry McGee from the Irish Times actually reckons that the last Dublin seat is down to Eamon Ryan (Greens) and Mary Fitzpatrick (FF), and will just depend on first preferences.

Anyone?

The other Jimmy Carr.

Local election candidate, Jimmy Carr, claims the SDLP accused him of being a drug dealer.

Earlier this week The Derry Journal exclusively revealed that a Derry City Council (DCC) issued iPad containing “questionable” messages linked to Mr Carr had been handed over to the PSNI.

It is alleged that the messages were about illegal drugs.

However, The Derry Journal can now reveal that the PSNI have received a second iPad and are considering examining both devices to determine if any crime has been committed.

Councillor Carr says he will fight the election as an Independent.

He’s running in the Awk ward….
