lurgan

The mighty Coláiste Lurgan’s just-released cover of Macklemore & Ryan Lewis’ ‘Can’t Hold Us’ (complete with bonus Macklemore and Lewis cameo as Gaeilge).

All together now:

Gabhfadh muid ar aghaidh,
Seo’d é an nóiméad
Ná breathnódh muid siar
‘S tabhair faoi go cróga
Caith bhur lámha san aer,
Tá an saol seo romhainne
Tá an saol seo dhúinne

brothers

“We Are Brothers” by Baddy Paris and Rufus Starlight – a krautrocky message to their older sibling, who had asked them to be best men at his wedding and got this – possibly the most fabulous best-man speech ever – in response. They sez:‬

At his wedding we pleaded for our brother not to leave us, in the only way we knew how to say it; through the the medium of 80s music and video. We thought we’d done ok, but he left us anyway.

rapbattle

A promo clip from Youtube crossovers Key and Peele‘s new series on Comedy Central.

A freestyle rapper’s attempt to challenge the reigning champion goes off the rails when his crew experiences some internal conflict.

You’ve seen the one with the two doormen discussing ‘Liam Neesons and Bruce Willy’, right?

No? Watch this.

30/6/2009. Waterboys - Yeats celebrations

Another track from The Waterboys’ anti-booze marketing binge concept E.P

‘Twas Arthur’s Day in Dublin and the streets ran green with puke
I met the ghost of Willie Yeats and he fixed me with a look
‘Twas Arthur’s Day in Dublin and the streets ran gold with piss
Said Yeats, “to think that Emmett and Wolfe Tone did die for this!”

‘Twas Arthur’s Day in Dublin and the streets were black with beer
there were gobshites to the right and left, there were gobshites to the rear
I came upon Luke Kelly’s ghost and I asked him what he thought
“this madness finished me”, he said, “it’ll finish half this lot”

‘Twas Arthur’s Day in Dublin and the streets were full of fights there were women drippin’ blood and men collapsed beneath streetlights
I met a Christian Brother, there was victory in his face
“I’m proven right” he cried “we’re a vile and savage race”

‘Twas Arthur’s Day in Dublin and the streets were blue with bands
tricked by promise of good causes, shipped in from foreign lands
The Manics and Mick Jones were there, and the Mumfords too, ’tis said
And I heard the ghost of Philo say “the counter-culture’s dead”

The Waterboys release their three track Arthur’s Day  E.P. on September 26 on iTunes.

Enjoy poetry responsibly.
