A heebie-jeebie inducing picture taken a few weeks ago in a Paraguayan supermarket of a giant rat nomming on cheese, mushrooms and olives inside a deli counter display case, seemingly unnoticed by staff.

The pic subsequently went viral (what else?) on Twitter. The shop and the entire mall where it’s located have since been shut down by the local health authority.

Obligatory reference.

MINISTER FOR Health James Reilly remained under pressure last night after a day of further controversy and calls for his resignation by two Labour MEPs.

The Taoiseach last night reaffirmed his support for Dr Reilly but there was growing unease in the Government parties over the unrelenting controversies in health.

Labour Minister for Education Ruairí Quinn was said to be incensed after he misled the Dáil with information provided by Dr Reilly’s department. Sources said he was “not prepared to take the fall” for another Minister’s mistake.

Don’t fancy your chances on that thin ice there, Bottler.

Possibly Dublin Airport….

Jacolette writes:

The photographs was taken by Irish-American tourists in 1971 and include the slightly surreal image of an A and B pay phone. This pay phone system required the caller to contact an operator and if for some reason the call didn’t go through they could hit the ‘B’ button to return their coins. I wonder if the photograph was taken in an airport and that the green phone is perhaps a courtesy phone? I cannot make out the headlines on the newspaper which might have provided clues as to the time of year.

Anyone?
