This afternoon.

Jennifer Bray, in The Irish Times, reports:

Fianna Fáil and Fine Gael have published a joint framework document for potential coalition which contains 10 key “missions” and says the “overriding focus” of the two parties is to improve the “wellbeing” of Irish people and society.

The 10 pillars are: Reigniting and Renewing the Economy; Universal Healthcare; Housing for All; A New Social Contract; A New Green Deal; A Better Quality of Life for All; Supporting Young Ireland; Opportunities through Education and Research; A Shared Island; At the Heart of Europe: Global Citizenship.

“To assess the performance of a new government, we must look beyond economic indicators,” it says. “We will create new, credible, quality-of-life measures of individual and societal wellbeing and progress.”

More as they get it.

Former Communications Minister Pat Rabbitte

Mr Rabbitte said in his view the country was lucky to get the experienced Cabinet it did in 2011, given the crisis facing the country. He also hit out at critics of the Labour Party who accused it of failing to put manners on Fine Gael. “People who would never vote for the Labour Party get very indignant about Labour not keeping its coalition partner on the straight and narrow,” he said.

MINISTER FOR Health James Reilly remained under pressure last night after a day of further controversy and calls for his resignation by two Labour MEPs.

The Taoiseach last night reaffirmed his support for Dr Reilly but there was growing unease in the Government parties over the unrelenting controversies in health.

Labour Minister for Education Ruairí Quinn was said to be incensed after he misled the Dáil with information provided by Dr Reilly’s department. Sources said he was “not prepared to take the fall” for another Minister’s mistake.

Don’t fancy your chances on that thin ice there, Bottler.

DIVISIONS HAVE surfaced between the Government parties over the Croke Park deal after Tánaiste Eamon Gilmore of Labour rejected demands from two Fine Gael Ministers for key elements of the agreement to be scrapped.

He was speaking after Minister for Transport Leo Varadkar called for the suspension of public service pay increments and Minister for Health James Reilly raised the prospect of cutting overtime and premium pay.

“Frankly, I would prefer if individual Ministers didn’t get up every Monday morning and express a point of view – a personal point of view – on [the] Croke Park agreement or budget formation or whatever. And that where issues like this have to be addressed, that they’re addressed collectively by Government,” he said.

Ooooh.

You. Outside. Now.
