I shot this on the way home from work yesterday (Monday, around 5:30pm). I’ve recently moved to Dublin. Had heard people do this, but..in the Summer!
The quays in Dublin this morning by Una Faulkner.
And from Dun Laoghaire looking towards Howth, Co Dublin, (also this morning) by Cian McKenna:
And yesterday afternoon in Salthill, Galway, by Des Foley:
Frank McDonald (above), Irish Times Environment Correspondent, and Fine Gael junior Minister Alan Kelly on last night’s Frontline on RTE 1.
Pat Kenny: “Frank, you have written about [Environment Minister] Phil Hogan and what he did with five separate inquiries that were actually under way, into planning, which were then suspended.”
Frank McDonald: “Well, I mean, I think that that was a very serious matter. John Gormley, the former minister for the environment, had received detailed complaints and I know in the case of Carlow County Council they were very detailed indeed, of planning irregularities. And I’m not talking, we’re not talking about corruption here, we’re just talking about bizarre decision making and you know really shocking messing about.”
Game Over
atRETAILER GAME has closed all of its stores in the State with the loss of 121 jobs after the group went into administration. Administrators appointed yesterday also closed most of its stores in Northern Ireland, cutting 110 jobs.
The Game Group became the latest retailer to go into administration, after the company last week suspended its listing on the London Stock Exchange and said it was seeking the protection of the courts.
Only five outlets in Ireland will survive the cull – all in the North.

A lot of people have asked if this image is embossed (3-D texture). It is not. When you see the picture, it is so hi-res that it looks embossed. But it will not not wear out quickly like embossed does.
So, not embossed then.

As the hearse prepared to pull away slowly along Flinders Street through a guard of honour formed by Melbourne players donning blazers presented to them by Stynes just days before his death, cheers erupted from Federation Square.
Sam Stynes blew kisses and waved to the thousands of mourners gathered as she [and her children including son Tiernan, and daughter Matisse, above] got into the funeral car. The claps from the crowd – which numbered at least 16,000, according to state government estimates – began quietly but quickly rose to meet the volume of St Paul’s bell as they rang out.
Then came three cheers, more applause and whistles for the much-loved man who had come from Ireland as a teenager and adopted Melbourne as his home.
