Artist Peter Gronquist takes taxidermy to a whole new level at his exhibition at Gallery 1988 in Los Angeles, fitting stuffed buffalo, wildebeest, zebra, rabbits and other creatures with extremely ornate horns featuring replica rifles, machine guns and AK47s  human skeletons, flowers and luxury brand logos.

The idea came to Gronquist when he had a taxidermied antelope in his studio. He told Wired.co.uk: “I started wondering what it might be like in a future where animals had evolved to fight back. I call it ‘absurdist futurism.’ The iconic logo-horned animals derive from my dreams about the future of branding, which I like to think will include genetic branding.”

The pieces are on sale for between $3000 and $10,000 but you can have one of those uni-conies for $500.

Using materials that would equally be at home amongst idyllic model train sets, artist Thomas Doyle builds incredibly intricate mixed media dioramas that instead suggest something much darker. The sense of loss and a brooding darkness is present in almost every piece, where homes dangle on sheer cliffs, or are surrounded by apocalyptic waste. The pieces above, entitled The Barrage Lifts, and Firing for Effect, are from his ‘Distillation’ series.
