On the same street where Jonathan Corrie died sleeping rough the government can find €5m to renovate an office space. It is just shy of a year since Mr. Corrie passed away. People are still sleeping on the street in large numbers and those earning but struggling to cover rent could join them.

I am attending my 30-year school reunion [non posh Co Dublin rugby-playing] next weekend (evening ‘do’ in an hotel) . Many will have not seen each other since the 20-year reunion held at the peak of the boom when we were doing ‘well’.

How does one convey a look that says ‘not as ‘well’ as I was to be candid but still alive and sure isn’t that all that matters’?

Full suit? Trainers? Dressing gown?

Or forget the whole thing and stay home?

There’s only 6 days left before planning permission elapses for Dart Underground, the only feasible project capable of transforming the Capital. The Minister looks near certain to blow the money on an inadequate tram service to [near] the airport. What kind of form does one need to fill in to arrange for interested users of the City to descend on the Dáil after work on Monday? 5:00-6:30pm should make the news and the point…

As I am not registered with Irish Water they won’t entertain my query so was hoping you could ask your readers.
We had the water meters installed in our area about 1.5 years ago now and it appears Irish Water are back digging up the entire estate (and beyond) over the last couple of months, AGAIN where the original meters were. Has anyone any idea why this might be? Above is the works going on today.
Also, it’s worth noting that they are doing this work under the guise of UPC, with signs (out of shot here) saying “UPC, bringing fibre to your area” with a subtle Sierra logo in the small print. I asked UPC and they denied any knowledge of works going on even though it blatantly has their name all over it. Shnaeky business indeed…

John Murray (left) and Ryan Tubridy

With news that Ryan Tubridy is the long term replacement for John Murray on RTE Radio 1 between 9-10am weekdays….

Philip writes:

Can anyone explain the thinking behind this move? Ryan Tubridy’s brand of radio did not work before on Radio 1, he was then moved to 2Fm where the brand also did not work….Now they’ve put him back on Radio 1. WHY!? Also where has John Murray gone to?

An unusal one. Can your readers help me compile a suitable ‘mixtape’ to soundtrack the journey….No Enya, no messers, etc.

An Post, Camile Thai takeaway and the TV Licence inspector.

A Troika of tasty evil?

Joe writes:

Today a letter was delivered to my house from the TV Licence inspector addressed to my housemate’s girlfriend. She does not live with us but occasionally gets takeaway from Camile and JustEat.ie delivered here. In the last few months she received two letters from Camile with her name and our address handwritten on the envelope.

My question is; is it legal for An Post to use the names and addresses from letters that pass through the sorting offices for the purpose of TV licence registration? Myself and my housemates receive post regularly so why didn’t they address the letter to any of us?

Our theory is that An Post/TV licence guys picked my housemate’s girlfriend’s name as the name/address on the letters from Camile are handwritten, suggesting that the letter is sent from someone who knows the recipient lives at that address. Seems pretty underhanded from An Post!
