Baltimore Sea Safari writes:

“This battered and bloodied Atlantic Grey Seal was hauled out on Quarantine Island [Co. Cork]. He bears the scars of a mating season encounter, when the dominant male guards a harem of females, and will defend off all possible suitors or challengers. These challengers often end up like this guy, defeated, dejected and bloodied.”

Harem, eh?

FIGHT!

HB1HB2HB3HB4HB8 HB6The humpbacks returned to Balitmore, Co. Cork yesterday.

And last Sunday morning, there were fin whales:

Meanwhile:

Peppa

In the pursuit of taking that last picture, Richard O’Flynn, of the Best Photos of Baltimore, lost his daughter’s bag.

He writes:

“After a super morning watching 7 or 8 fin whales and hundreds of dolphins feeding off the stags this morning I went and left my daughter’s Peppa Pig bag with a torch in it and my Helly Hansen jacket down at the parking area in Church Strand at 12.30 and someone had picked them up before I got back. Please share or my daughter will never speak to me again.  They may have been handed in somewhere already.”

Anyone?

Best of Baltimore’s Photos writes:

“Three miles South of Baltimore Micheal Cottrell, spotted a new humpback while out working at sea. Later both Youen Jacob and Simon Duggan confirm this young animal to be a new humpback whale previously unrecorded in Irish waters. Name to follow and normally picked by who spotted him/her first. Any suggestions?”
