What you may need to know:

1. Good Vibrations is a biopic of Belfast music legend Terri Hooley.

2. Hooley is played by Belfast man Richard Dormer, the greatest Irish actor you probably haven’t heard of; he rocked as Alex Higgins in one-man play Hurricane (he also wrote), is in the next series of Game Of Thrones, and has a new play, Drum Belly, on at the Abbey [Dublin] soon.

3. NB: Liam Cunningham in awesome wig @ ’45.

4. It’s produced by David Holmes, who also did the music.

5. We hear it’s the best Irish movie in YONKS.

Released: March 29th

What you may need to know:

1. The Hangover Part II (2011) was possibly the most redundant sequel of all time. It made a lot of money.

2. This one’s got Zach Galafinakis, John Goodman and Melissa McCarthy in it. That’s a whole lot of fat and funny right there. We miss you, John Candy.

3. Director Todd Phillips established the Brat Pack template with his masterpiece Old School (2003). He then proceeded to make a total balls of the Starsky And Hutch (2004) movie.

4. Lest we forget, Bradley Cooper is now a Oscar nominee. Remember when he was the dick from Wedding Crashers (2005)?

5. Ed Helms is playing Rusty Griswold in a Vacation (1983) reboot. Yes, Chevy gets a cameo.

6. Broadsheet Prognosis: It’s going to be HUGE. And then they’ll make a fourth one.

Release Date: May

What you may need to know:

1. Iron Man rocked. Iron Man 2 was rubbish. This one’s directed by Shane Black, who directed Downey in the sublime Kiss Kiss Bang Bang (2005). We can’t believe he didn’t give Val Kilmer a holler.

2. It’s easy to forget that pre-Iron Man, Robert Downey Jr was a washed-up ex-junkie who’d blown his chances at stardom and was considered an un-insurable liability to put Charlie Sheen to shame.

3. Ben Kingsley plays The Mandarin. In the comics, he’s Asian. Marvel don’t want to piss off the Chinese, so here he’s, well, Ben Kingsley.

4. We do love Guy Pearce. He was the best thing in Lawless (2012). What was he doing in Prometheus (2012)  again?

5. Truth be told, this looks kind of deadly. But we hear Man Of Steel (2013) is the superhero flick to beat this summer.

What you may need to know.

1. Here’s the first clip from a new Irish film from the guy who made Kisses (2008), Lance Daly.

2. Life’s A Breeze stars Pat Shortt and Fionnuala Flanagan. They were both in The Guard (2011), but never shared a scene.

3. After that unforgettable nude scene in Garage (2007), Pat just can’t keep his clothes on onscreen. He’s our McConaughey.

4. Pat’s in Calvary (2013), the next one from Guard writer/director John Micheal McDonagh.

5. Fionnuala Flanagan is a right and proper Irish screen legend; she’s starred alongside Jim Carrey (twice), Bruce Willis and Mark Wahlberg, has been in Star Trek (Enterprise, Deep Space Nine and Next Gen), Lost, Murder She Wrote, Columbo, Kojak AND Bonanza.

6. Designated Gleeson: Life’s A Breeze co-stars Brian Gleeson, AKA Hughie Power (from season 1 of Love/Hate).

7. Broadsheet Prognosis: We’re there, as long as Pat keeps his bottoms on.

2. Playing the good doctor: genius Danish thesp Mads Mikkelsen, from Casino Royale (2006) and the Pusher movies.

3. Playing Will Graham: Brit actor Hugh Dancy, possibly even more miscast than Ed Norton in Red Dragon (2002).

4. What the flip happened to Larry Fishbourne?

5. The definitive Lecter? It’s still got to be Brian Cox, in Manhunter (1986)

6. Broadsheet Prognosis: The Shiteness Of The Lambs.

What you may need to know:

1. Like most smart filmmakers, Neil Jordan has embraced TV, with The Borgias now in its second season.

2. He still does features, even though recent ones like Ondine (2009) and The Brave One (2007) haven’t been feeling the love. His best movie? We’re thinking The Butcher Boy (1997). And still love Mona Lisa (1986).

3. Byzantium is Jordan’s first vampire flick since Interview With The Vampire (1994) 19 years ago, still his biggest box-office hit.

4. Carlow’s own Saoirse Ronan is starring in the next Wes Anderson movie, then Ryan Gosling’s directorial debut, with Stephenie ‘Twilight’ Meyer adaptation of The Host (2013) in cinemas any day now.

5. Broadsheet Prognosis: Where’s Stephen Rea when you need him?

Release Date: Summer

4. Dig the Old School (2003) vibe. You might as well rip off one of your own movies.

5. Wisely, they save the punch in the nuts for the end.

What you may or may not need to know.

1. A trailer so awesome it could only be premiered on ITV’s Daybreak.

3. It’s directed by the guy who did Supersize Me (2004). Seriously.

4. Best YouTube comment: ‘Is it weird that i cried while watching this?‘

5. OMG Niall etc. Fair ball. Hopefully he’s not putting his money in property.
