Long-distance kayaker Clyde Barendse

Sarah Kelly writes:

This man (top and above) is currently circumnavigating Ireland in a kayak and deserves a big round of applause! (and a cuppa tea!).

Clyde Barendse is from South Africa and came to Ireland for the first time 3 weeks ago. Upon arrival he took part in the Liffey Descent Race, and then set his sights on a circumnavigation of our lovely island! In the Autumn, no less.

Clyde set off from Mayo on October 12 and has now reached Midleton in Cork. You can track is progress, with blog and photos here.

He’s doing this solo, with no formal assistance (though everyone he’s met so far has been extremely helpful – from B&B owners, local fishermen, the Irish Coastguard, Canoeing Ireland members etc… Irish hospitality!)

Clyde is raising money for a cancer charity that run a weekly bus from Donegal to Galway each week with cancer patients. The Donegal Galway Cancer Bus. There are no cancer treatment facilities north of Dublin or Galway, and the charity doesn’t receive any government funding, so this kind of fundraising is imperative to their existence.

Can we please ask your lovely readers to donate [link below] what they can?
