According to Chinese news agency Xinhua, a fad for dressing babies in watermelon overalls that started during a record heatwave last month in Wenzhou has now gone viral throughout the country.
And long may it continue.
Currently on sale at a supermarket in Beijing and retailing as ‘happy/joyful doll pears’, the fruit is believed to be shaped in a mould during the initial stages of growth, keeping that shape as it expands and grows into a fully ripe nightmare.
