Farmer Paddy Herlihy from Inchmore, Coolea, Macroom, Co Cork with his two week old Galloway calf Jack. Jack was found in a field on a wet night and weighed only 12lbs and stood 15in high. Jack is going forward to the Guinness book of records as the smallest calf in the world, usually when born they weigh about 70lbs.

On Fourth Lake in New York’s Adirondacks, a crush of 1,902 canoes and kayaks attempts to break a “largest raft” world record. Rules dictate that the megastructure float freely for at least 30 seconds, held together only by hands.

This month, the Boy Scouts of America organisation celebrated its 100th anniversary by simultaneously launching 3,130 model rockets (70 of the planned 3200 didn’t make it) into the Heuston sky, setting a world record and utterly trashing the previous record of 965.
Scout Jacob Smith was chosen to trigger the launch. Envy him.
