“A productive meeting was held today between An Garda Siochana and MCD at which an initial review took place. A range of issues were discussed surrounding the event including matters of serious concern in the public domain. It was agreed that both organisations will carry out a more in-depth review regarding all aspects of the event.

An Garda Siochana and MCD condemn all anti social behaviour and will continue to work together to minimise any re-occurrence.

Public safety is and always has been a priority for both An Garda Siochana and MCD.
Prior to all events a range of relevant stakeholders including Gardai and Concert Promoters meet and agree an Event Management Plan which is implemented and reviewed after each event.

Three concerts were held at the Phoenix Park 5-7-8th July and in total circa 135,000 people attended these concerts.

On the 7th July, total security personnel present was 511 and there were in excess of 145 Gardai on duty. Regrettably a number of incidents occurred resulting in 33 arrests which led to 70 charges being preferred before the courts (public order, drunkenness and drug related offences). In total over the 3 nights there were 58 arrests and in excess of 100 charges preferred before the courts. It is expected that there will be further charges in early course and an incident room has been established at Cabra Garda Station and all incidents will be fully investigated.

Further meetings will be held in the context of lessons learned and orientation for future concerts of this nature. The Garda Commissioner will be preparing a report for the Minister for Justice, Equality and Defence following this review.

Until such a review has taken place it would be inappropriate to comment further.”

Justice Minister Alan Shatter said the Garda Commissioner is to meet with the promoters of Saturday night’s concert where nine people were stabbed. Mr Shatter said what happened at the concert in the Phoenix Park was “very unusual”. He said the Garda Commissioner was looking into the events that occurred. “I think there are issues for the promoter of this event to clarify,” he said.

“We didn’t see anything but have asked for all the info and are respectful of the promoter’s need to wait and give us all the clear facts. When we know more we will liaise with the Festival promoter directly on what we can do to help but for now we have to respect their request to us that we remain quiet and respectful of their event safety processes. The festival itself was amazing and we had no idea this had happened and neither did the other numerous artists who played. Once we know all the facts we will deal with it in the best way we can.” Swedish House Mafia
