Talosmuch-fancied electro-pop Corkman announces debut album

What you may need to know…

01. Last we heard from Talos in this column, Eoin French and collaborators were unveiling a debut extended-player after an enviable run of electronic pop singles.

02. Following a wait of years, extensive touring and some stunning visuals, his debut album Wild Alee has been confirmed for release on April 21st.

03. Streaming above is the lyric video for the album’s lead-off single Odyssey, released last Friday. In case you missed it, etc.

04. A full Irish tour has been announced for April-June in support of the long-player, including dates in Cork, Dublin, Galway, Waterford, Kilkenny, Dundalk, and Leap. Full listings here.

Thoughts: Astounding electronic music from an artist and his collaborators that have been ready for bigger things for a long time.

TALOSNew single and upcoming dates

What you may need to know…

01. Since the last time we checked in on Eoin French and collaborators, Talos have finally announced an upcoming extended-play, O Sanctum.

Recent live outings have included the Mitchelstown caves, as part of Clonmel Junction festival, as pictured above in a stunning shot by Christian Tierney.

03. Streaming in the link above is the video for slightly more blissed-out new-single Your Love Is an Island. Prepare for feels. Video directed, edited and graded by the mighty Feel Good Lost.

04. He plays Dublin tomorrow night at Dlight Studios; Wednesday night at DeBarra’s in Clonakilty; and Kilkenny Thursday night at St. John’s Priory.

Verdict: Evocative, without getting overwrought and earnest. It is getting increasingly difficult to see how French and co. aren’t going to be massive at some point in the near future.

What you may need to know…

1. In case you missed it last week, Cork-based electronic-pop pinup songsmith Eoin French, aka Talos, dropped his much-anticipated new single In Time over at Nialler9’s blog.

2. Big, big things await the architecture tutor with a penchant for sweet vocals and spacey, shoegazing sensibilities, after a 2014/5 that saw singles Tethered Bones and Bloom take flight in a serious fashion, leading to myriad festival appearances all over Ireland and Europe, including Eurosonic in the Netherlands.

3. The video is directed and edited by longtime collaborator Feel Good Lost, also responsible for the strong visual identity of Cork Scandipop bedfellows Young Wonder, and recently directing videos for All Tvvins and Le Galaxie. One of Ireland’s most influential creative professionals.

4. Firmly established on the independent Irish music scene, Talos is looking set to go mainstream this year, getting the come-to-bed eyes from Hot Press in their recent Hottie awards/reader poll. He scooped two nominations, one for Best Song, the other for Most Promising Artist.

Verdict: Broadsheet recently saw the live configuration of the project play Quarter Block Party in Cork. He gets better every time we see him, but there’s some heavy-duty backup, including live cellos. Catch him live now, before he blows up properly.
