Some digi-cameras simulate the tilt-shift effect. This one has a dedicated tilt-shift lens built in, rendering real life images (and videos) as miniature dioramas. Even with a modest 5 megapixel resolution the results (above) are pretty impressive.
We love the tilt-shift, we do.
The camera costs $149 from Photojojo.

A charming feature from Switchback Entertainment, featuring a bird’s eye view of the village of Whistler in the Blackcomb Mountains of British Colombia.
The video has been digitally tilt-shifted to simulate a shallow depth of field – creating the impression of a miniaturised ‘snow-globe’ scene.
The technical term is ‘dinkification’. No it isn’t.

Gorgeous tilt-shift homage to the city of Berlin, directed by Pilpop.
Your brain will insist that you’re watching an impossibly detailed miniature diorama. You’re not.
‘I dedicate this film to Berlin where I have been living for 19 years now. While the architecture of Berlin is stunningly beautiful, only its inhabitants make Berlin the unique city that it is. In every corner there is something new to discover. And the best thing to do is to film it.’
Here’s the YouTube version for iPhone.

Tilt-shift photography uses a special lens to give real-world scenes the appearance of miniature models. Still images can be tilt-shifted in Photoshop by adjusting a photograph’s contrast, colour saturation and depth of focus.
Fine art search engine Artcyclopedia recently applied the technique to the paintings of Vincent Van Gogh, to fairly spectacular effect.
There’s a 16 image gallery including Starry Night (above) here.
None of these paintings has been added-to or removed-from or had its proportions changed. The effect is achieved simply by manipulating the light in the scene and adjusting the areas of the image that are more and less in focus, as you will see.
