James Atkinson, running for Campaign and Communications officer at UCD.

Tom L writes:

This is absolutely excruciating stuff, there’s something about these UCD students that seems to make them impervious to embarrassment The candidate, whitest man alive, also drops the N-bomb in the bloopers at the end. Simply awful. I couldn’t watch it again.

It appears to be primary season in student politics and this likable enough fellow is Paddy Guiney, one of four candidates hoping to become Campaign and Communications Officer for UCD Students’ Union.

In the manner of that Dublin Airport Terminal 2 advert (expertly lampooned by Barry Murphy), Paddy lists off the great things about UCD including its alumni. It all starts to wobble as we are reminded the college has “given the the world a chairman of Goldman Sachs” (cheers) and positively wibbles as he brags: “And we’ve given Irish men (pause for snigger) Rosanna Davison.” At which point the desire to bomb Belfield becomes overpowering.

Thanks UCDlilly

Yo! Jambo jambo.

Lionel Richie’s All Night Long.

Improved by the UCD Choral Scholars.

Hang on.

Anyone going to lectures in Belfield anymore?

Go to 1.59 to see what total adoration looks like. Aw.

 Thanks SnD

IT WAS once a world record arena and witnessed some of the great performances during the golden era of Irish athletics but the UCD running track at Belfield has run its last race.

The track is now closed over “health and safety concerns” and after several years of neglect is effectively beyond repair: diggers have already moved on to the track to explore alternative uses, and it looks set to end up as a car park or the site of student accommodation, like many other former sporting sites at the Belfield end of the campus, including the old Belfield Bowl.

Back in ’95, Bodger threw up on the grass verge there doing the Macarena after five cans of Special Brew. Good times.

What cherished memories of the old place do you have?
