The music video I shot and edited for Von Shakes, a Dublin based band that moved to New York some years ago, just premiered on MTV Hive. It would be great if you could share it and show off some our homegrown talent.

Should you enjoy a chunky synth sound reminiscent of Heaven 17 (fills pipe) and a gripping and scary Temple Bar-based gender role drama.

Smyth & Reilly – September 1913 (from the album Arise & Go).

Stay for the male nipple banter.

Free tonight?

Stephen Smith writes:

As it’s the centenary of WB Yeats’ poem September 1913 myself and Enda [Reilly] are doing a gig in Bewley’s, Grafton Street, Dublin tonight at 8.30pm.

While that in itself isn’t remarkable we think you might like the video (above),  directed by Myles O’Reilly and featured on RTÉ’s The Works as well as the IFTA award winning documentary on Yeats “No Country for Old Men”.

Hozier (from Wicklow) – Take me To Church.

Hozier sez:

The video references the recent increase of organised attacks and torturing of homosexuals in Russia, which is subsequent to a long,
hateful, and oppressive political campaign against the LGBT community. The song was always about humanity at it’s most natural and how that is undermined ceaselessly by religious organisations and those who would have us believe they act in it’s interests. What has been seen growing in Russia is no less than nightmarish.
