Morrissey & Marshall – Hangin’ Around

Pete Murphy writes:

Irish act, Morrissey and Marshall [Dubliners Darren Morrissey & Greg Marshall], are Track of the Fortnight in the current issue of Hot Press, with the magazine saying it “thoroughly deserves to be a huge hit”, and calling it a “sun-drenched, Kinks-esque, power pop, tour de force”.

The duo, now based in London, are currently receiving wide acclaim for their sophomore album release, We Rise….

After The Ibis – Sober

A second single from Dublin ‘roots reggae’ eight piece – Stevo Wickham (bass), John Mason (drums), Ads Page (lead Guitar & vocals), Clare O’Kennedy (vocals, pictured top), Eoin Gillard (saxaphone), Ray Cranley (rhythm guitar), Cormac Ó Conaire (keyboard) and Cillian Kenny on trumpet.

Jenny Mac Giolla Phadraig writes:

Sober explores the darker elements and addictive nature of love. The video depicts the idea that we are not always in control over our actions but often at the mercy of some overpowering external force.

Hic.

Pillow Queens – Rats

A thrillingly topical video by Dublin four-piece Pillow Queens – Cathy, Pam, Rach & Sarah – currently touring the UK. Cameos from the band members feature throughout.

Pillow Queens write:

The video for Rats takes place on the set of a radical left queer educational television programme for children.

Despite being severely underfunded and under-rehearsed the show goes on, their aim being to enlighten the youth of Ireland to the wonderful world of leftist politics.

Hosted by Snotsey-May Darcy and co-hosted by resident artist Síle O’Surelook (played by founder of Dublin’s best queer variety show GlitterHOLE; Beth Hayden, and drag extraordinaire; Daniel Power).

The content of the show and set itself is littered with references to pop culture and pays particular attention to Ireland’s current political climate with nods to ongoing struggles against the state.

Pillow FIGHT!

Hally – Waiting

Cecilia Saviotti writes:

Naas Man, Hally is delivering one song AND music video every week for the entire 2017! The project is called “Peeling Onions”.

Sick of an ancient secrecy Hally opens up with unbridled honesty about madness, death, politics, beauty and love.

He fuses poetic lyrics and eclectic visual arts with ambient landscapes, raging jazz standards and intimate tender ballads.

Hally’s second Album of this series, “Peeling Onions” Vol.2, will be launched on Friday 14th July at 8pm in Riverbank Arts Centre in association with Kildare County Council Art Service.

In fairness.

John Tobin – Hometown

Piano Man Tom writes:

“Hometown was produced over a 5 month period with some of the top musicians in the Irish music industry (Van Morrison’s guitarist and Chris Rea’s bass guitarist helped out).

John Tobin, the 20 year old singer on the track, was a contestant on UK X Factor in 2016 and is a very promising new Irish talent….

Name the town on the cover, anyone?
