Der Mensch als Industriepalast, by the Berlin-based popular science writer Dr Fritz Kahn (1888 – 1968) was one of a series of illustrations created in the 1920s and 30s, showing the workings of the human body as if composed of machinery.

This 2009 animation, by Henning M Lederer, adds a further layer of detail, in period-specific style.
