Kick In The Shinns

Yesterday, Socialist Party TD Ruth Coppinger made reference to high-profile members of Sinn Féin bullying Maíria Cahill on social media.

One particular twitter account (@capnblack) belongs to Alan Donnelly (aka Alan Ó Donnaille), brother of Sinn Féin councillor Paul Donnelly, who ran in the Dublin West by-election earlier this year.

Meanwhile…

On last night’s ‘Tonight with Vincent Browne’, Sinn Féin TD for Meath West Peadar Tóibín denied Sinn Féin members were involved in online bullying of Maíria Cahill.

One of these days someone will come up with a way to make twitter readable and it might become as popular as facebook

Maybe.. that wouldn’t have been my first guess though. :)

          Sorry Clampers. Just teasin’.
On reflection, it wasn’t that awful.

Please let this abuse issue and subsequent denial and bullying be enough to discourage the public from voting SF.
Of course, who do we vote for now?

and therein lies our problem. FG/FF/Labour/SF are all a shower of cnuts. We need a real alternative!

Agreed, but I’m the political analyst in my house and I predict that you’re gonna get something you never thought you were ever gonna get…
        …something cra-azy…
…something you never thought could exist…

A coalition between Fianna Fáil and Fine Gael.

        There, I said it.

Don’t know who the political advisers are for the Shinners but they have made a hames of it. From being tops of the opinion polls less than a fortnight ago, Adams gun remark gaffe, their cowardly and unsympathetic handling of the Cahill case and Mary Lou’s farcical actions today will see them slide to the bottom.

    1. Goosey Lucy

Not the bottom, but yes, it’s all been handled rather badly.
Still, my personal opinion on M Cahill is one of not total belief in all the details of the story (at least what I’ve read in the media- skewed as it may be)

      1. Clampers Outside!

I hear ya, but I keep telling myself a few simple truths (I believe them to be)….

        ….she was raped.
….whomever she approached in SF/IRA for help made a bags of it.
….SF/IRA conducted a campaign of ‘no co-operation’ against the RUC.
….but now, SF/IRA deny having any responsibility for that situation THEY created.

….so ultimately, blame for her treatment or lack of proper treatment ultimately lies with SF/IRA and when Gerry comes out and says there was no where for the ordinary people to turn and sorry for the poor handling that’s not good enough….. they, SF/IRA, created the situation, and so ultimately responsibility lies with SF/IRA…. a responsibility they have refused to own up to.

That’s the hypocricy, and that’s why you can never trust a politician who has had far too many years dealing secretly and behind closed doors, because it is ingrained in how he does business and when openness is required he, Gerry, hasn’t a clue how to do it.

There’ll be a lot more of this coming down the line and the excuse of “it was a war” won’t wash with me.

        My tuppence.

“the excuse of “it was a war” won’t wash with me”

Even though I abhor SF and IRA even more, that excuse sort of does wash with me – I bet if we knew half of the horrendous things that went on and got covered up (on all sides), we’d be genuinely shocked (which is saying a lot for a country that’s ‘discovered’ a lot of unpleasant things about itself in recent years)

    Dunno

But I think Ruth Coppinger is worried about her own seat.
Nothing wrong in planning ahead when yer looking to mind yer arse is there Ruth

    Keep it up

    1. Mister Mister

Jesus no ! Keep her in the dail, the political landscape in Dublin West has been bliss once she left local politics to join her comrade Joe Higgins to do ‘better’ things.

“I ask you to withdraw that immediately”

Oh, Hi Alan, welcome to Twitter. People are free to call you out on your bullshit and there isn’t really anything you can do about it. But then again, you’re used to being able to spout crap at every opportunity with zero consequence, so this shouldn’t come as much of a surprise.

Gives it but can’t take it – the trademark of a bully.

    1. Anne

Did anyone ever withdraw it immediately when asked?
      Words. I mean words.

Yes, of course, now that you’ve put it like that, withdrawn immediately. I don’t think so.

It’s just childish hyperbole I suppose. But better to say, I don’t agree, or something to that effect, instead of making yourself look like a twat.
