AH here KCR taxis – THREE minutes in a taxi…10 euro! Told me I could have a small dog who must sit on my lap! on arrival told me about the dog tax! Taking dog = good. Unnecessary dog tax = bad.
So they told you that you’d be charged extra for bringing the dog, and you agreed to this charge, and paid this charge, and then complained? Why not just not accept the bleedin’ charge? Ye dzope!

I am frequently on the receiving end of creative but illegal extras being tacked onto my fare (the most improbable occurred last December, when a taxi driver told me I had to pay an extra euro for every seat in his van, including the empty ones). The taxi companies are usually very good about refunding the full fare, especially if you have the receipt. They know many drivers are absolutely chancers. I suppose that’s not going to change until we all start complaining to the taxi regulator AND penalties are enforced.

“on arrival”
Does this mean when the taxi arrived to pick you up?
or
When you arrived at your destination (in the taxi)?
dylad
Sick of moaning dog owners. If you are not prepared to pay for a dog – don’t have one in the first place.
cluster
Fair enough but you’d expect the taxi driver to tell you about the charge in advance, no?
Just sayin'
Substitute “child” for “dog” and I’m with you.
Liam from Lixnaw
I’d say the driver tacked it on because the fare was so low – needed to make it worth his while. Like the lads at the airport that won’y bring you to Swords.
They’re breaking the law. Stand in front of the cab and take a photo, send it to whatever company they are in. I’m sure there’ll be another taxi owner only dieing to get an airport pick up licence and treat customers equally.

yeah, and make a banner saying you’ve already paid for it, twice.
Paolo
But the poster was breaking the law by not securing the dog using a dog harness. You cannot have it both ways ffs.

I have often found reams of these receipts along our main road which have been thrown out by dip$hit litterbug taxi drivers. I enquired with the taxi regulator the reason why they would want to throw them away and was told to just contact litter warden. Are the evading tax by getting rid of these or is there another reason?
bertie blenkinsop
Everything is stored in the memory of the meter. They’re just too lazy to find a bin.

did you give him a tip?
Surely They Wouldn't Lie To Us
I don’t get it.

3 minutes in a taxi at 2am in the morning? If I was to drive to you to collect you at that time of night and drive you somewhere even nearby (with a dog in my car) I’d think a tenner is reasonable.

Dog tax?? Oh my, he just saw you coming….

I use kcr to go to the airport all the time, always found them to be fantastic and upfront about all charges when you Call. not sure what the issue is here.
choice is a fantastic thing

You’re not allowed to charge extra for a dog.
Paolo
You are not allowed to have a dog in the car unless it is in a harness. You are also not supposed to bring small children into cabs without booster seats but lugging two boosters seats around town for 8 hours can be difficult so most drivers will take you anyway. Cut them some slack.

Potential soilage fee, fair enoughski
Soundings
Ah now, if them be the rules, there’d be a €5 surcharge on most pickups in Dublin city centre after 10pm most days. Charging for soilage after the event, fair enough, but for potential soilage, looks like a chancer sticking on an extra; best deterrent is for the fare to demand full refund and compensation (I’d think €100 might cover your outrage and inconvenience) from the taxi company.

So your solution to a chancer is for the original poster to turn into a chancer himself?
Monday?
I completely agree with you and there is also probably the need to clean the car of dog hairs afterwards. I think people are just moaning too much lately about nothing. Too much time on their hands.
Starina
that’s bullsh*t. i had two kittens in taxi earlier this year and there was no charge. you got scammed.

I don’t think its a valid extra charge for starters (http://www.nationaltransport.ie/taxi-and-bus-licensing/taxi/operating-an-spsv/taxi-fares/) and this reads like they weren’t told of it in advance either.
