While satire is under attack,
Thank God for the good folk at CRAIC,
Who’ll stand up and fight,
Against jokes about blight,
And give John Bull’s telly a smack.

Who does this muppet represent? i am disgusted that he is claiming to be speaking for Irish communities.

Hauld yer whisht. They made the title of their organisation fit the acronym, as it doesn’t really make sense, does it?

Am waiting for Channel 4’s hilarious new comedy on the Hillsborough Tragedy. When’s it coming out?

I can’t see how they can be offended before they see how the famine is to be approached as comedic material. Of course it could be offensive paddywhackery, but there’s plenty of scope for scathing satire too.

I saw a bit about Art Spiegelman’s “Maus” posted regarding the Charlie Hebdo killings, but it seems fairly apt here too…

“Don’t you think that a comic book about Auschwitz is in bad taste?” one angry reporter asked him when the book was published in Germany. “No,” Spiegelman replied, “I thought Auschwitz was in bad taste.”

I only reread Maus last week. Powerful stuff. As for famine humour, well, I’d imagine the trenches in France weren’t much fun, but Blackadder only really seemed to offend Michael Govery (which can only be a good thing).
The Brits must realise, however, that Irish people DO NOT JOKE ABOUT THE FAMINE: http://youtu.be/YVlb1i0x0ew

I haven’t reread Maus in a while it is constantly looking at me from my book shelf but i cannot bring myself to become the bubbling mess i become every time i read it.

Channel 4 made Father Ted. That gives them the benefit of the doubt in this instance. RTE wouldn’t touch it and before it came out, the same concerns about paddywhackery and the English mocking us were made.

If the famine sitcom is any good, we’ll all embrace it and lambast RTE for not having the foresight to make it.

‘RTE wouldn’t touch it and before it came out’

Thats a myth, it was always being made for C4. Graham Linehan said it was never offered to RTE
