From now on the state will refuse,
To let shops sell underpriced booze,
What’s good for our health,
May be bad for our wealth,
And leave drinkers singing the blues.

I don’t think the €5 pints of Guinness in Temple Bar (and much of Dublin city centre) will be affected by minimum prices. And why isn’t there more outrage about Guinness ripping off the Irish drinker. We let them use our water and pump their brewery fugue all over Dublin 8, and this is how they repay us.
“I don’t want to put pressure on Diageo, but we simply baulked at paying a higher price for Guinness in Ireland than we do in the UK”
“informed industry sources have said the price of beer sold to publicans in Ireland is up to 20 per cent higher than in the UK”

Weatherspoons will be open for business across from he bleeding horse soon enough and in other locations around the place, hopefully that will be the kick up the arse publicans need….2.50 for a bottle of brooklyn lager in WS or 6 odd euro in other bars on the same street
be 18 months at least
Of all the ridiculous shit brought to the table by the present government, this is right up there with the most ridiculous.
For.
Fvcks.
Sake.
nanny state.
Fills car, heads to Newry
I’m raiding my piggybank to buy shares in homebrew shops and that crowd operating the Rosslare-Cherbourg ferry.
*heads to Newry. fills car, surely?
Why not just introduce a Poor Tax – It would probably be easier to administrate.
+billions
I’ve always thought that offy prices & pub prices should be a little bit closer.
A €3 can/bottle versus a €4 pint would result in better atmosphere in pubs and less idiots stumbling into pubs at closing time with 10 cans of 5.5% swill in their bellies.
Not a publican, just a fan of busy pubs.
Convenient that this health push directly supports the goals of the Irish Vintner’s Association. Expensive drinks all round boys. Apart from in the Dail bar, obviously.
+1
But sure aren’t we always told Everyone In Ireland Has a Problem With Drink? This is the official line and must not be questioned. You all did your penance of Dry January and are now gargled 100% of the time again, right?
