They really don’t seem to mind how many straight couples they throw under the bus (eg infertile couples) as long as teh geys don’t get marriage.

Coolmine station? I saw them too and decided not to engage, my husband did however and asked them how that would make young kids struggling with their sexuality feel seeing that on their way to school today. They replied “it would be better if they were normal”, he said “so gay people are abnormal then?”, “yes”.

They are Baptists. True “believers” which is why they only get baptised as adults… but are indoctrinated through childhood. And they tend to like literal interpretations of the Bible.

That is, they are nut jobs, every single one of them…. IMHO

      1. d4n

Can’t stand organised religion, but, for the record, that’s a bit unfair to Baptists. There’s a common impression that Baptists are incredibly backward fanatics, but it’s not exactly true, it’s just that Fred Phelps and his ilk are very obvious.
But Baptists have often been very supportive of progressive values, and often fought very hard against the less liberal versions, they’ve fairly consistently fought for civil rights, the removal of Creationism from schools, etc. etc.

Wowzers. Hate speech. Same category as racists/misogynists/holocaust deniers etc…a strong slap to the side of the face might cure their hysteria.

  2. jeremy kyle

Well, I talked to God earlier myself and he said he doesn’t really mind. so it’s fine lads.

    1. Scooperman

Well he made it perfectly clear to me it’s a red line issue for him so one of us must be lying

      1. scottser

are you sure god wasn’t referring to the luas? i’m pretty sure he made an example of saggart, not sodom..

  3. ahyeah

It would be nice if we could bring things forward and have the vote tomorrow. Put an end to all this; getting tedious now.

  4. Mani

When I want opinions on contemporary issues I always consult dead authors from the early twentieth century. It’s where I’ve gotten my pro slavery and eugenics stance from.

    1. Casey

Your opinions gate on me, I am a-poled by your stance. Just stop this now before people get boarded with you.

  5. Don Pidgeoni

Ah, so still no good reasons then. Also, I’m surprised it took this long for the “all gays are paedos” line to be pulled out.

    1. Martin Heavy-Guy

I think that card was pulled out when the “children” topic was brought up first.

The association is obvious – they are appealing to the old church’s (yes, I mean that church, with those priests & bishops) link between homosexuality and paedophilia by putting pictures of children up and making them seem vulnerable. It’s just that Iona etc. know how to put their message across without inviting litigious action.

It will end the “free exercise of conscience”… no, it will end the faux free exercise of conscience that religious groups have foisted on us.

Baptists = Evangelists = Right wing nut jobs bent on control through religion… and your wallet.

“I owe my success to having listened respectfully to the very best advice, and then going away and doing the exact opposite.”

“Tradition means giving votes to the most obscure of all classes, our ancestors. It is the democracy of the dead. Tradition refuses to submit to the small and arrogant oligarchy of those who merely happen to be walking about.”

    – G. K. Chesterton

  8. Kolmo

Anyone quoting a ‘holy’ book other than in irony, to present a rational point is a clown.

  9. Mysterymeat

A Red Line issue eh? The folks on the Green Line don’t have such a problem with it I guess?

  10. Diddy

Crazies? The arrogance of the yes side in this debate is driving me towards. No vote

    1. NiallJames

I really really don’t understand this mentality. Why can’t both sides can be as crazy and/or arrogant as they want….and you still vote the way that you think is right?

      1. Small Wonder

He’s just looking for an excuse to vote no, because he can’t deal with his own homophobia. “The Yes side made me do it!” is more comfortable for some people than “ew! Gays!”

        1. Mani

Or ‘maybe voting no will stop me getting an erection every time i see a picture of Tom Selleck’.

    2. Fergus the magic postman

Do you not think some of the bigotry on that flyer is crazy? You were going to vote No anyway, weren’t you?

I know from recent experience, it is practically impossible to talk some of the No side around to a tolerant point of view.

      1. Shanti

Hey, we still have racists and misogynists, there’s no reason to believe that all the homophobes will suddenly evaporate.. if anything now they’re making themselves known because Iona have given them bravado..

  11. True Kilcockian

Dizzy believe me I can relate. But here are some terrible reasons to vote NO.
don’t vote No because you don’t believe Brendan Courtney – he isn’t every homosexual
don’t vote No because Una Mullally’s priveleged whine is like nails on a blackboard – she isn’t every homosexual
don’t vote No because Colm O’Gorman is a PD – he isn’t every homosexual
don’t vote No because you suspect the yes side are fighting dirty – All the people taking down posters probably aren’t homosexual at all

In other words don’t vote No as a reaction against the Yes side. Only vote No if you have some positive reason to do so. I don’t have any reason to vote No that isn’t based on my own Homophobia. So I’ll be voting Yes.

Don’t use your vote to Troll. Vote Yes.

“Love one another as I have loved you, except teh gheys obv.
    And single mothers.
    F@k them”

  13. AdvertisingOnPoliceCars

I am voting ‘no’ for the simple reason that I chose to, based on my democratic right to vote.

    1. Drogg

That’s fine, but I use my right to freedom of expression to think you are a bigot and homophobe for wanting to deny people equal rights.

    2. scottser

why though? i’m genuinely eager to hear one good reason to vote no from someone. ‘just because i can’ doesn’t do it for me. not that you have to justify yourself to anyone, i’m just curious to see if anyone has heard one compelling reason to vote no that’s not based on a hysterical lie.

    3. pedeyw

Your reason for voting no is that you are voting no? It’s not actually a reason but fair enough.

  14. Drogg

I am so glad I am out of the country for the build up to the election cause when I see nonsense like this all I see is red. Keith Mills is nothing but an attention seeking sociopath and as for the baptist church they can fupp off with their outdated views on most of the goings on of life. I should send some of my married friends who can’t have kids around to talk to the blanch preacher and see if he can talk to them about how their marriage means nothing cause they can’t have kids.

      1. Drogg

Sorry I’ve been up all night watching that unholy fupp up in the UK it’s the voting that currently is on my mind but of course I mean the referendum. But after last nights results I wonder how reliable polling is and should I be worried.

    1. Kieran NYC

      +1

He’s the kind of person who would laugh along and try and ingratiate by self-deprecating when getting bullied as a child.

      1. Sadface

in fairness Kieran,if you were ever bullied as a child, that’s usually how to try and get out of a daily hiding up until the point you either fight back or kill yourself..

    2. Shanti

Someone really needs to take him aside and let him know that out here in the real world, it’s ok to be gay. the majority of us aren’t actually raging homophobes and are willing to accept him as he is, all he needs to do is accept himself.

  15. Mad Mike

Sorry, I must have misread the wording on the March Referendum.

Judging by the language on this card and on similar publications by the No side, the wording must be:

“Will you continue to tolerate the insult to God’s law where a man lays with a man or a woman lays with a woman?”

Luckily, that it is NOT what is being voted on.

Although many people on the “God Says NO” side seem to think it is.

  16. Corvo

Nine reasons?! Iona only have five. Come on lads you’re letting the prods win!

Interesting that they mention Sodom and Gommorah since the bible never actually says what the people if Sodom did to annoy god so much and it definitely doesn’t say it was SSM

    1. scottser

lot has two angels stay in his gaff. the townsfolk rally and demand to shag the angels. lot offers the townsfolk his virgin daughters instead. the townsfolk still have the horn for the angels, so the angels strke them blind and rain sulphur and hot ash down on the towns. lot gathers his family (minus wife, who is now a pillar of salt) and move up the road where they settle but because the daughters all lost their men, they all shag lot to get pregnant.

they’re all as bad as each other, to be fair.

    2. Jane

Doesn’t definitely say it wasn’t either.

Mind you, it could have been any of a number of things – god invented a lot of things he doesn’t really like, which seems careless.

Anyway, these religious really take the biscuit. The worst reason to vote no is that an imaginary old man in the sky doesn’t like SSM but refuses to do anything about it despite being omnipotent.

  17. Janet

severe judgement from the almighty is it ? Well how about you shut up mind your own business and let the big fella sort it himself, if you really believe your clap trap he doesn’t need the baptist church to help him run his shit.

  18. Continuity Jay-Z

What if you prefer the word No?

    NOOOOOOOO

    NOOOOOOO

    NOOOOOOO

    Rolls off the tongue lovely.

    NOOOOOOOOOOOOOOO
